Our latest programme brings you a selection of concerts and activities
designed to inspire and which demonstrate the strong link between arts,
health and well-being and the important role it can play in helping the healing
process. We launch some new and what will become regular features that
allow you to get involved in the arts, feel inspired by those performing
or simply give you a new perspective on what might be possible.
The Collection. . .
A new regular feature of concert programmes that take inspiration from the fabulous arts & heritage collection
that surrounds us in the Guy’s and St Thomas’ environments. The visual arts can have a dramatic effect
on improving how we feel and where better to experience this than in the hospital environment. The first of these
concerts takes us on a journey through the fantastical fairy tales depicted in the Doulton Tiles on display
in St Thomas’ Hospital and we also link up with the MediCinema who will be screening the recent cinematic
release of Into The Woods.
Breathe Amplifies. . .
Here we shine a light on talented young musicians and performers who, despite the odds, work hard to make
a living from their art-form. These may be at the start of their careers, emerging artists, buskers or just those
individuals who have discovered that performing has helped transform their world for the better. By supporting
them in their endeavours and showcasing their talent we aim to help them on this journey.
London Creativity & Wellbeing Week. . .
(4th-12th June 2015)
An initiative of the London Arts & Health Forum. We continue our participation in this annual festival and this
year you too can get involved, singing, dancing and learning. Keep an eye out for further activities, alongside
those featured in the concert programme, that will be announced nearer to the time. For more info visit
www.creativityandwellbeing.org.uk.
The Reader Organisation, Weekly reading group. . .
The reading group will be up and running from Friday 17th April. Why not drop into the Knowledge & Information
Centre (KIC) at St Thomas’ Hospital on Fridays from 12-1pm to discover how being part of a regular group can
help uncover the joy of words.
“There is a growing body of evidence indicating the profound effect engagement
in the arts and creativity can have on health and wellbeing. The arts bring us alive,
nourish our curiosity, help us learn — they change the places in which we are treated —
and make them places we might want to be, they can improve the relationship between
clinician and patient, and they give us the courage to face our own frailties and strengths”.
