Why$would$those,$forsaking$love$for$the$omnipresent$and$eternally$benevolent$Lord,$and$harbouring$overt$
craving$for$the$material$world,$enjoy$peace$of$mind$or$spiritual$bliss$in$the$month$of$Vaisaakh?$
Virtually$the$entire$humanity$has$strayed$in$search$of$the$transitory$material$wealth$$
and$in$amassing$it$knowing$the$stark$reality$that$one$leaves$one’s$son,$wife$and$material$wealth$behind$and$
only$the$eternal$Lord$can$be$his$saviour$in$the$hereafter.$
Agents$of$‘angel$of$death’$confiscate$all$else$except$the$Wealth$of$Naam$in$the$hereafter;$thus,$one$comes$to$
grief$in$forsaking$the$benevolent$Lord$as$none$other$is$of$any$help$there.$
On$the$contrary,$those$who$abide$by$His$teachings$find$true$Praise$at$His$door.$
Therefore,$Nanak$supplicates$and$longs$not$only$to$realise$Him$but$also$to$remain$
attuned$to$Him$forever.$
The$month$of$Vaisaakh$appears$beautiful$and$comforting$when$one$surrenders$oneself$$
and$accepts$Guru’s$teachings$unreservedly.$

Vaisakhi (also spelled Baisakhi) is the festival
which celebrates the founding of the Sikh
community known as the Khalsa. It is celebrated
on April 14 each year. On Vaisakhi day in 1699,
Guru Gobind Singh summoned Sikhs from all
over India to the city of Anandpur Sahib.
He baptized the Panj Pyare in a unique ceremony
called pahul. The Guru proclaimed that the Panj
Pyare would be the embodiment of the Guru
himself.
Guru Amar Das Ji received his Guruship on 16
April 1552. He is best known for:
Starting the Langar Service (Free Blessed Food)
in all Gurdwara Sahib. Further abolishing the
Caste System. Guru lifted the status of women
and gave them equality with men. Established
the city of Goindval on the banks of river Bias
in 1552 A.D. The Guru contributed a total of 907
hymns to the Guru Granth Sahib Ji.
Guru Tegh Bahadur was the youngest son of Guru
Hargobind and Bibi Nanki and was born at Amritsar on April
1, 1621. From a young age Tegh Bahadur was trained
in the martial arts of swordsmanship and horse riding as
well as religious training by the wise Baba Buddha and
Bhai Gurdas.
Guru Teg Bahadur was discovered a true Guru by Makhan
Shah, a trader, when he learnt that only Guru ji could
disclose what donation he had pledged.
A small pox epidemic broke out in Delhi while Guru Har
Krishan was in residence at there. The compassionate
young Guru went through the city and personally
tended to the needs of those suffering and so
contracted the disease himself.
With his final breath (April 16, 1664), Guru Har Krishan
indicated his successor would be found in the
township of Bakala.
