LICENSED SCHOOL NURSE
THE SCHOOL- Bridge Boston Charter School is a comprehensive, full-service public school that opened in the
fall of 2011 with K1 and K2 students. We now have 192 children enrolled in K1 through third grades for the
2014-2015 school year, and will expand by a grade each year until we serve 335 students in grades K1-8. Bridge
Boston Charter School’s mission is to help our students thrive in a challenging, joyful, inclusive public school
community that values close partnerships with families and a focus on the whole child. Our students will develop
the skills necessary to excel academically in rigorous high schools, reach their individual potentials, and view
themselves as creators of their own futures. Through full-service programming, Bridge Boston Charter School
works to remove the health and social obstacles that hinder student learning.
THE POSITION- We are seeking an experienced and passionate school nurse who feels a commitment to the city
of Boston and the education of its youth, and who feels excited about the idea of working with families and staff
to create an effective full-service health program in a growing school. The nurse reports to the Director of
Students and Families, and will work approximately 30 hours per week in the 2015-2016 school year between
August and June, with the opportunity to work hours in the July summer program.
The ideal candidate will have
 Licensure as an RN in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and current DESE licensure as a school nurse
 Current certification for CPR and AED by the American Heart Association as a Health Provider
 Certification of completion of the Medication Administration and Delegation training program of the
Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH) within the past five years [or a willingness to obtain that
training prior to start of school year]
Duties will include
 Maintain health files for each student with up-to-date, cumulative medical health and vaccination records
 Maintain log of the administration of prescription and over-the-counter medications, nursing assessments,
interventions, and evaluations in an appropriate manner and communicate with families and staff
 Train unlicensed school personnel to administer scheduled medication and epinephrine per the State regulations
 Maintain health cabinets with all necessary medical supplies including safe handling, storage, and disposal of
prescription medications and hazardous wastes
 Provide case management and extensive family support for high-need cases
 Coordinate and follow up on hearing, vision, and dental screenings, exams, and treatments
 Develop Individual Health Care Plans and Emergency Action Plans for students with special health needs, and
include in section 504 plans or Individualized Education Plans (IEP) as applicable; identify students with
potential health-related learning needs and coordinate with Director of Students and Families
 Communicate with students’ doctors and health care providers regarding students' orders for medication
administration and management of physical, behavioral, developmental health or injuries in the school program
 Maintain privacy and confidentiality of student's health and medical information per State and Federal Laws
