Basic Hat Pattern
Yarn for dog hat
Row 1: K3, (k2tog, K4), ending last rep k2tog, K1.
Row 2 and alt rows: Purl.
Row 3: K2, (k2tog, K3), ending last rep k2tog, K1.
Row 5: K1, (k2tog, K2), ending last rep k2tog, K1.
Row 7: (K2tog, K1) across the row. 28sts.
Row 9: (K2tog) across the row. 14sts.
Do not cast off; run thread through remaining
sts and draw up tightly, then secure.

Polyester toy stuffing
Using 3.75mm needles and the colour stated in
your chosen design, cast on 84sts.
Work 10 rows in K2, P2 rib, or as directed.
Change to st st, and work 26 rows as instructed.
Shape top
Bear
Follow the basic hat pattern, but use Brown for
the ribbing and Natural for the rest of the hat.
Muzzle
Using Brown and 3.75mm needles, cast on 5sts.
Knit two rows.
Next row: Inc 1st at each end of the row, and
then on foll alt rows until you have 11sts.
Knit six rows straight.
Next row: Dec 1st at each of the next and foll
alt rows until 5sts remain.
Knit two rows, and cast off.
Using Brown and 3.75mm needles, cast on
10sts. Knit two rows.
Next row: Increase in each of the next 3sts, K4,
Add a little bit of stuffing inside
the teddy bear's muzzle as you
sew it onto the hat, to give it a
more realistic finish.
Inner ears (make two)
Using Natural and 3.75mm needles, cast on
10sts.
Knit two rows.
Next row: Inc in each of the next 2sts, K6, inc in
each of last 2sts.
Knit four rows.
Next row: Dec 1st each end of next and
following alt rows until 8sts remain.
Next row: K2tog across the row. Cast off.
Eyes (Make two)
Using 3.75mm needles and Black, cast on 3sts.
Knit one row.
Next row: Inc in the first and last stitch.
Knit three rows.
Next row: Dec 1st at each end of the next row.
Next row: Knit one row.
Next row: Sl1, k2tog, psso. Fasten off.
Nose
Using Black and 3.75mm needles, cast on 8sts.
Work four rows in st st.

Not sure if you're
knitting for a boy
or girl? A teddy will
suit either one
side of the crown. Place the muzzle onto the
centre front of the hat, a little above the ribbing.
Pad it lightly, and sew it into place. Sew the nose
onto the muzzle. Thread Black onto a needle,
and run it from the centre of the nose to the
base of the muzzle. Pull it a little to shape the
nose, and secure. Sew the eyes into place.
to 4sts.
Next row: K2tog twice.
Next row: K2tog. Fasten off.
Cat
Nose
Using Cream and 3.75mm needles, work in rib
as instructed for the basic hat.
Break Cream, and join in colours as needed

Four rows in Melon.
Two rows in Terracotta.
Two rows in Sorbet.
Two rows in Melon.
Four rows in Terracotta.
Two rows in Sorbet.
Four rows in Melon.
Two rows in Terracotta.
Four rows in Sorbet.
Finish the hat in Terracotta.
Using Rose and 3.75mm needles, cast on 8sts.
Work four rows in st st.
K2tog at each end of the next row and following
alt rows until 2sts remain, then k2tog.
Fasten off.
Outer Ears (make two)
making up
Using Terracotta and size 3.75mm needles, cast
on 10sts.
Work four rows in st st.
Next row: Inc 1st at each end of the next row.
Work four rows in st st.
Next row: Dec 1st at the end of each alt row
Sew in all yarn ends. Fold the hat in half with the
centre seam at the back. Then, sew one inner
and one outer ear together, and pleat them
at the base to give them shape. Pin them into
position on either side of the crown, and sew
them into place. Sew the nose onto the centre

Rose.

colour sequence:
Two rows in Black.
Two rows in White.
Two rows in Black.
Two rows in White.
Two rows in Black.
Break off Black, and continue in White for the
rest of the hat.
Using Black and 3.75mm needles, cast on 8sts.
Work four rows in st st.
Now, k2tog at each end of the next and foll alt
rows until 2sts remain, then k2tog.
Fasten off.
Eyes (make two)
Using 3.75mm needles and Black, cast on 3sts.
Knit one row.
Next row: Inc in the first and last stitch.
Knit three rows.
Next row: Dec 1st at each end of the next row.
Next row: Knit one row.
Next row: Sl1, k2tog, psso.
Fasten off.
Ears (Make two)

Note: Work in garter stitch throughout.
Using 3.75mm needles and Black, cast on 5sts.
Knit two rows.
Inc 1st at each end of the next and following alt
rows until you have 11sts.
Work 20 rows straight.
Dec 1st at each end of the next and foll alt row.
You will now have 7sts.
Cast off.
Work in all yarn ends. Fold the hat in half with
the centre seam at the back. Sew the ears into
place on either side of the crown, and pin them
to get them level. Sew the nose onto the centre
front a little way up from the ribbing, leaving
enough room to embroider the mouth. Pad the
nose very slightly as you stitch it on. Sew the
eyes into position, using the photo as a guide.
Embroider the mouth. Work French knots in
Black on either side of nose, as shown. n
