Mark the center shoulder line. Knit 60 rows. Back: Bind off 86 sts (front) and knit to end of row. Knit 13 more rows on the remaining 82 sts and place on holder. The yarn should be at the bottom edge of the back. Do not cut yarn. Assembly: Place both pieces together and work a 3-needle bind off to finish the back seam. With F or G hook, work 5 rows of single crochet along the front and neck edges, making sure the edges are even and flat. SC along back side edge, across sleeve edge, and back down front side edge to reinforce. Slip stitch back up front side edge and attached front to back using slip stitch to seam and leaving a 5” side vent. If desired, turn back 3-4” of sleeve to form cuff and tack lightly in four places. Weave in ends. IMPORTANT: The natural fiber and variation of the yarn thickness will cause a substantial amount of drape to this garment as it relaxes over time which gives the jacket its wonderful flowing quality. This will not be apparent when garment comes off the needles and it will be much smaller and boxier than anticipated. Upon completion, saturate with cool water, spin out the excess water in washing machine, hold jacket by the shoulders and give it a “whack”to stretch out the stitches. Gently stretch the length and width to your satisfaction, being careful not to stress the crochet edges too aggressively. Drape a large folded towel onto a hanger to support shoulders. Hang dry and enjoy! This design is the property of BLUE HERON YARNS 2011 and is provided free with the purchase of the yarn.
