Time To Volunteer For Your Duties!
We are nearly half-way through the year and there are plenty of
club duties that need to be allocated. So far, the DutyMan system has been a success in allocating and reminding club members
when their duties are coming up.
The Committee would like to ask all club members to log onto the
DutyMan system and volunteer themselves for duties to support
the club. Any un-allocated duties will need to be allocated to club
members, so please keep an eye on your emails to see if you have
been asked to do a duty. Don’t forget, it is important that you
“Confirm” your duty so the pool sessions can run safely and
smoothly! If you have any questions about the DutyMan system,
please speak to Ed!

BCC Communications Lead—
Zac Burrows
This month, the committee member we would like to introduce all club members to is Zac—
the Club’s Communication Lead. Zak joined the club in 2004 and has been a long serving
member of the committee for many years. As a dedicated paddler, Zac took up his first
white water trip in June 2005 and managed to perform his first roll in anger whilst on the
to the might Nene White Water Course! Zac has also completed his BCU Level 1 Coaches
award in 2011 and can be found in the pool most Monday evenings offering coaching to adults
and youth members.
As a club, we are fortunate enough to have Zac who
maintains the club website and Facebook pages. This
has allowed club members to keep
updated with news, events and trip taking place within
the club.
When paddling at the pool, Zac can be found in a play
boat showing off his skills and his favorite river is the
Conwy in North Wales. As a member of the club’s committee, club members are always welcome to ask Zac
to add information and details to the club website and
Facebook pages and trip photos are always welcome !
Dates For Your Diary For White Water Trips
Although it is the start of
the summer season, it is
always worth getting the
following dates into your
diary ready for the white
water season.
First date is the August
Bank Holiday Trip on 29th
to 31st August. Currently, the venue is yet to be
booked. However, this trip
is always a firm favorite
for club members to enjoy
a long weekend of paddling.
In September, the North
Wales
trip
has
been
booked for the 12th and
13th September.
This
trip is always a great fun in
North Wales and fingers
crossed some rain will fall
to allow everyone to explore further than the Dee
and the Tryweryn!
The Exe and Barle trip is
also booked for the 3rd
and 4th October and spaces fill up quickly for this
trip to Dulverton. The
Exemoor Ale is best after a

25th October and the
Dart trip on the 14th and
15th November!

DBS Checking Service
Bromley Canoe
Club
Meet at West Wickham
Pools every Monday from
8 to 10pm (except Bank
Holidays)
For more information,
check out the website and
Facebook pages to keep
update!
Club members who are involved with youth members and vulnerable adults have been asked to complete an online DBS check.
The Disclosure and Barring Service replaces the old style CRB
checks, which makes the application process much quicker and
easier for applicants.
The club operates a full child protection policy inline with the
guidance set out by the BCU. Club members who are coaches,
river leaders and involved with working with young people will
be approached by Ben (Child Protection Officer) to complete
the online process.
www.bromleycanoe
club.org.uk
Club members who have completed their online DBS check are
asked to ensure that they provide Ben with the evidence required for the check. Such documentation includes Passports, Driving Licenses, Bills
and Proof of Addresses such as Bank Statements.
Full details of the club’s child protection policies and procedures can be found on the
club’s website and any club member who has any questions or concerns regarding child
protection can approach Ben in person or by email.
River Medway May Bank Holiday Trip—By Rob
McWhirter
What a jolly weekend!
The Tonbridge to Allington
Lock trip saw a group of adventurous BCCers spend two
days and one night in the wild
waters of the Medway. Fun
was had in the sun. Day One
saw the group descend on
Tonbridge with a load of
great big open canoes (and a
few kayaks). Slipping onto the
placid waters we made good
pace (well, by our standards).
Bridget was on great form
organising everyone as usual,
Roger and Caroline struggled
to go in a straight line. Taking
the opens down through the
chutes when they were fully
loaded was a challenge. It was
a long day paddling but thoroughly worthwhile, we arrived
at camp for the early evening.
It's often rumored that
open boating is just an elaborate excuse to have extragant meals in obscure settings. And the kettle and
stove came out whenever we
needed a brew. The evening
BBQ didn't disappoint. We
got the tents pitched up
quickly, got the coals hot and
had ourselves a real feast.
The rain tried its best to
dampen our spirits, but Mr
Sylvester's glorified gazebo
- I mean, “events shelter” kept that at bay. So much so
than no one felt the need to
visit the The Anchor, even
though it was just across the
road. The rain persisted
throughout the night and we
gingerly unzipped our
tents on Sunday morning to
find it a a little wet. But, by
the time we got going the
weather had cleared and
once again we slipped our
crafts into the water and
rubbed shoulders with the
ducks. Highlights of the day
included: sun, ice creams at
Maidstone, the whole group
using a lock (who's brilliant
idea was it to bring the lock
keys?) and Andrew and Rob
having a rather wobbly moment in their canoe. The
weekend was a lovely introduction to expedition paddling and set the group up
nicely for the Ardeche trip
that's running this summer.
Thanks to all involved,
especially Nick Poole for
bringing down the trailer full
of opens.
