MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION OF BELLEVILLE TOWNSHIP HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT 201, ST. CLAIR COUNTY, ILLINOIS, HELD JULY 21, 2014, BELLEVILLE TOWNSHIP HIGH SCHOOL, 920 NORTH ILLINOIS ST, BELLEVILLE, ILLINOIS. ════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════ The meeting was called to order by Board President John Kasper, at 6:35 pm. Members present: Eckert, Kasper, Lampkin, Schaefer, Scharf, Schroeder Members absent: Bartle Also present were: Superintendent Jeff Dosier, Assistant Superintendent Brian Mentzer, Director of Alternative Education Programs Andrea Gannon, Director of Special Services Melissa Taylor, Principal Rich Mertens, Principal Stephanie Posey, and Attorney Bill Stiehl. See attached list for additional attendance. Mr. Schroeder moved, seconded by Mr. Scharf, that a closed session be called at 6:36 pm. to consider information regarding the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance or dismissal of a specific employee or office of the public body, pursuant to 5 ILCS 120/2 (C)(1); collective negotiating matters or deliberations concerning salary schedules for one or more classes of employees, pursuant to 5 ILCS 120/2 (C)(2); student disciplinary cases; pursuant to 5 ILCS 120/2 (C)(9); and pending or probable litigation against, affecting or on behalf of the public body, pursuant to 5 ILCS 120/2(c)(11). Mrs. Cyndi Oberle-Dahm, West teacher, thanked the board and administration for their support of the summer youth leadership program with Belarus. She also thanked board member, Al Scharf, for hosting two students from the program this summer. Mr. Mertens and Mrs. Posey reported on preparation for the 2014-2015 school year. Mr. Lampkin moved, seconded by Mr. Scharf, to accept the resignation of Brandon Woodrome, West teacher, effective the 2014-2015 school year. Motion carried by the following vote on roll call. Mr. Mentzer reported on the district’s finances noting the State of Illinois owes the district $370,000. She also reported 29 alternative education and/or special education students are on track to graduate at the conclusion of summer school. The Board and administration held a strategic planning session. The areas of discussion included the mission statement and guiding principles. Mr. Scharf moved, seconded by Ms. Eckert, to approve the first reading of the board policy updates. Motion carried by the following vote on roll call. Dr. Dosier reported the turf project has been put out for bid. 6 MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION OF BELLEVILLE TOWNSHIP HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT 201, ST. CLAIR COUNTY, ILLINOIS, HELD JULY 21, 2014, BELLEVILLE TOWNSHIP HIGH SCHOOL, 920 NORTH ILLINOIS ST, BELLEVILLE, ILLINOIS. ════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════ The Policy Committee met on Tuesday, July 15, to review the policy updates. Mr. Schroeder moved, seconded by Mrs. Schaefer, based on the evidence presented to the Board of Education during closed session, to expel student “A” from Belleville Township High School District #201 for the 2014-2015 school year. Pursuant to the School Code, the student will be eligible to enroll in an alternative placement program if space is available and that the expulsion be held in abeyance while the student is attending alternative placement; further, summer school will not be offered to student “A”. Motion carried by the following vote on roll call. Ayes: Eckert, Kasper, Lampkin, Schaefer, Scharf, Schroeder Nays: None Mrs. Schaefer moved, seconded by Mr. Lampkin, based on the evidence presented to the Board of Education during closed session, to expel student “B” from Belleville Township High School District #201 for the 2014-2015 school year. Pursuant to the School Code, the student will be eligible to enroll in an alternative placement program if space is available and that the expulsion be held in abeyance while the student is attending alternative placement; further, summer school will not be offered to student “B”.
