The Board is working very hard to come up with new, fun events to have at the club this summer since we will not be able to boat as easily. If you are not already signed up to receive our weekly email news blast – now would be a great time to do so. The weekly email will list everything that is going on at the club for that week and the near future! The pool will be ready and warm this summer with lots of fun activities planned – including water aerobics on Thursday evenings in June, from 5:45 to 6:30! Watch for additional information on this! If you have ideas or suggestions for the club, please let us know! We would normally be getting our boats ready to put in the water this time of year. But, due to the recent developments concerning the dam and lower than normal lake level, we are trying to figure out how we might be able to boat on Buckeye Lake. Certainly, boating will be limited and dock access will be a challenge. Be assured that the Buckeye Lake Yacht Club is open. We are getting ready for the summer season with expanded summer hours; the pool & pool bar; the great line up of entertainment; and other scheduled events. See you at the pool soon!!!! The Yacht Club will be the premier place Rose McEntire Communications Governor to be this spring and summer. Be sure to take advantage of all the benefits that your Yacht Club has to offer. The Board of Governors is working hard to continue the Yacht Club traditions and to provide the membership with a great experience at the BLYC. We will be planting our summer veggies and flowers, sharpening the mower blade on the mower, and readying the pool. And just like at home, many of these same things we will be doing at the Club. In order for everything to look its best, it takes time and effort. As many of you know, Donna Parker, who has made the Club look beautiful for many summers, has stepped down from that role, leaving me to head up this effort. Donna has assured me that she will be of assistance but doesn’t want to do the whole thing. I have some experience with plants as I worked at The Ohio State University greenhouses for two years as a student. However, I don’t claim to know everything and even if I did, I can’t do it all by myself. It takes a great effort in order to have beautiful plants. I would like to have a meeting on May 13, (7:00 pm @ the Club) for those who would be interested in becoming a part of a group who will oversee the flower and plants. Duties would include planting, pruning, deadheading, fertilizing and watering. If you can help with any of these and would like to be on the committee let me know at: [email protected] or call me on my cell - (614)-975-1820. We are progressing with the pool with a goal of opening the pool on Memorial Day weekend. One project that required attention is finished. Where the pool had leaked in previous years, it washed out the soil under the sidewalk and needed backfill. I would like to thank those members who hauled limestone over the bridge and to the pool for several hours on a Saturday: Gov. Chuck Gleich, who was also our “expert” and spent additional time; Gov. Mark Severance, who also did some pruning; Scott Evans and his lovely daughter Helena; and Bob Snow. In addition, I would like to express my appreciation to architect, and new member, Fred Schwab for providing technical advice. Also, a tip of my Commodore’s hat to Kathy Severance, who helped shovel the remaining stone down the ramp, Wes Cartwright who showed up to help the week before and the stone never did, and to Trent, one of our maintenance guys. Sailing season is upon us...YEAH! Unfortunately, ODNR water level have created some obstacles for boating. Fortunately, I have been working with Alum Creek, Hoover and the I-LYA Jr. Sailing Council. The first adjustment is that Buckeye Lake Jr. Sailing and ACSA (Alum Creek) are co-hosting the May 30th Traveler Series Regatta at Alum Creek! This is a great opportunity for BLYC to shine. “Stuff Happens” in life and those who do best are those who adjust and make the most of it. So...we need volunteers. Give either myself or Steve Harris a call, text, or email to be part of this challenge and show others “how it’s done!” There will most likely be some other adjustments - such as to camps... Stand by. To learn more, please check out my communications on BLYC’s website. On the top of our Home Page is a “Juniors” tab; click it and then click “Latest News” and you’ll find my “latest” communications! Thanks for being there to support the Jr’s and their families, your peer members!Come out and support your BLYC. “Mac” McVey Junior Training Governor The Dock Governor and BLYC business office shall work together to insure this policy is correctly followed. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. Finally, if you are storing something in our Eastport Storage Yard, it’s imperative that you are in your correct numbered spot. I’m receiving many requests for storage spots, at times I assign a spot only to find someone in the “unassigned” numbered spot. Please tag your property with a name and again, insure you are in your assigned numbered spot. My friends, I do believe this is a wrap. If you need anything, call me at 740.739.2706 or e-mail [email protected]. Working together for a common purpose results in a better BLYC Governor Tom Baltzell Docks & Rentals We Can Still Sail!
