Let’s Think Summer!
Let’s hear it for May! It’s time to sweep off the
patio, pull out the lawn furniture and dress up the
kitchen for festive summer events.
Debbie Gibson got us into the spirit when she sent
the photo of her new Easy Striped Table Runner
(at right) using this patriotic fabric from Timeless
Treasures. She’s just in time for the many national
holidays coming up!

Mother’s Day Open Sew; New Early Bird Sampler Coming Up
Not everyone can be with their
mother—or someone else’s
mother—on Mother’s Day, so
plan to join us for a Sunday afternoon Open Sew from 1 to 5
pm. We have room for 8 participants and the cost is a donation to the Frederick Food Bank.

monthly sewing machine
service day. We have a few
changes to our routine:

work each month, so please

If you pick up
your machine while
Michael is here, you
can now use your
credit card with
him. If you pick up
your machine from us af
terward, it needs to be either check or cash.
We’re happy to provide this
service to the sewing community. Please give us a call with
any questions you might have,
or if you need a foot or extension table that we can order for
you.

Punch Needle Class Coming Up
Punch needle is an old art
that can be traced back to the
Egyptians. It was used in embellishing medieval ecclesiastical garments and has been a
favorite form of embroidery for
generations.
We’re offering a Punch Needle
Class for beginners and those
with experience on Saturday,
May25th from 1-4 pm at the
Grange Hall in New Market.
$15. We have a project for beginners so that everyone is
working on the same item.
There will be a kit charge for this
project and you’ll need your
other supplies. For those currently working on a punch needle project who need help and/or
have questions, please bring your

Open Sew Nights: Please Note: There’s been a lot of interest in Open Sew Nights, and space is limited.
So, if you sign up and then want to cancel, you must cancel 24 hours before the Open Sew date so that
we can call someone on the waiting list. If you Do NOT cancel properly, your next Open Sew night will
cost you $15.
3 Tuesday Nights In May: 7th, 14th and the 28th: 4-9 pm. Join us and bring a project! Here’s a
chance to catch up on your stitching (hand or machine), do some cutting or get some help if you’re
stuck. Cost: Canned food or paper products for the Food Bank. Call to sign up! Space is limited at
each session and first come-first served.
No Crochet Sashay Scarf: Saturday, May 11: 10 am to 1 pm. No crochet experience needed! Anyone
can make this scarf from pretty Sashay yarns. $15 plus materials. Supply list
Mon, Jan 21: Beginning Sewing Basics: Machine Use & Functions 1– 2:30 pm Bring your sewing
machine and get started with the basics: parts of the machine, threading, winding a bobbin, presser feet.
We’ll talk about fabric and thread, basic tools and start a sewing notebook with basic seams and other
basic functions. $20 includes some supplies. Machine in good working order is required. Limit of 4 participants.
Beginning Machine Quilting: Sunday, June 9th 1-5 pm. Join Joyce Nichols for her popular class. If
you’ve been hesitant to try machine quilting, this class is for you! You’ll get lots of practice and handson help. Work with both straight line and free motion quilting, learn to transfer stencils, how to choose
appropriate needles and threads. We limit this class to 8 students, so call now to reserve your space.
The cost of the class includes all supplies except your machine and appropriate feet. $45. Prep sheet.
*Your machine MUST be in good working order, so please make sure it has been cleaned and serviced.

Monthly Groups
Our groups run in 6-month intervals for $30 each, payable in advance. The current interval runs through June
and joining any group this month is $30. Each group is led by a teacher. Beginners are welcome in all groups —
just let us know that you need a supply list and we’ll get you started!
 Wool Felt Stitchery meets the 1st Saturday of the month; 1 to 3 pm.

1st Hand Embroidery/Stitchery Group meets the 2nd Saturday of the month, 10 am to noon.

2nd Hand Embroidery/Stitchery Group meets on the 1st Tuesday of the month, 10 am to noon.

Gardener’s Alphabet Embroidery meets the 2nd Saturday of the month, 1 to 3 pm.

Hand Applique will meet on Friday, May 24th, 10 am to 2 pm (lunch break included) NOTE DATE CHANGE

Knitting Group meets on the 2nd Wednesday of the month, 10:30 am to 12:30 pm

NEW! Sewing Camp for Youngsters: June 24-28 9 am to Noon and July 22-26 9 am to Noon. Limit of
4 students each session. $150 per student. Ages 8 to 12. Students learn to use the sewing machine, do
some cutting and measuring and make a variety of projects, including an apron and pillowcase. All
materials included.
Coming Up: Milky Way Quilt: Aug 25, Sept 29, Oct 27: 1-4 pm. New pattern from Fig Tree Quilts—

Dear Friends,
I always know that spring has really arrived when the city of Frederick
turns on the beautiful fountains around town. They are one of my favorite things about living and working here.
I was thinking about the fountains as I pondered themes for our new
free Early Bird Sampler program. It led me to choose a dozen blocks
that represent some of “My Favorite Things.” Each month I’ll show a
different 12” block and talk about block construction, tools, fabrics and some background on
the ‘favorite thing’ of the month. You can read all
the details on page 2. Come join us!
