Sew Much More! The incredibly competent Marsha Crawley has been a sewing enthusiast since she was ten. Her great-grandmother never used a pattern, but took apart old clothes to make new. That’s come in handy
for Marsha who has always made clothes for her family—including her husband for whom she even made hand-tailored suits. As
a military family the Crawley’s moved every couple of years. She
learned to make pinch-pleated draperies, pillows and slipcovers to
help make each new house a home. Right now she’s making embroidered lace handkerchiefs for all the ladies of her church and
loves working at Sew Much More, because there’s “always sew much
more to learn.” Sounds like she can teach us quite a bit as well. ■

made the long trip to Austin from California.
Michelle expects to enhance the already stellar reputation for

One of her main tasks will have to do with designing special projects and programs for each of our machine brands and the types
of sewing that you love to do.
She’s already planning the first ever Sew Much More Sewing
Retreat. We can’t share the details right now but watch your
in-box for announcements in the very near future. Expect an
intimate weekend of sewing and camaraderie while exploring terrific projects and increasing your sewing knowledge.
Blessed with a warm, friendly and "perky" personality coupled with incredible sewing and embroidery knowledge, we
can’t think of a more creative and enthusiastic leader for it.

Julie
When you have a mother and grandmother who sew you’re pretty
much destined to follow in their footsteps. So it is with Erin Vogt
(pronounced “vote”). From an early age she wanted to be a designer
and proceeded to major in fashion design in Los Angeles. After getting her degree she designed a number of collections and, along the
way, started repurposing Goodwill clothing—adding her own personal “stamp”. Erin joins Sew Much More as General Manager after
years of management with Victoria’s Secret and a couple of other
ladies fashion retail stores. She’s excited to be in a less “corporate”
environment and enjoys the feeling of creativity that pervades the
store. Erin and her husband have moved from Pasadena, California
to be with us and needless to say we are so excited to welcome her
to the Sew Much More family.

Techniques - Basic Alterations
Do you have a garment, or two, in your wardrobe that just don’t
fit? You can change that! Join us and learn alteration techniques to
solve some common misfit problems. You’ll practice on samples as
you learn how to shorten pants, and how to take in side seams and
waist bands. Some of the techniques you’ll learn include: hem stitch
for jeans, cuffed hem, blind hem, and how to mark and sew darts.

Your machine can make beautiful finished edges, and garments can
look just as good on the inside as they do on the outside. If you’re
not sure how to make that happen - don’t miss this class! This is
the perfect place for garment makers to learn great sewing techniques, from basic overcasting to couture finishes. Some of the couture touches you’ll learn include: French Seam, Hong Kong Finish,

your machine’s basic features and many of its practical stitches. The
first session focuses on sewing functions. In the second session, focused on embroidery functions, you’ll get practical experience as

Training - Serger Basics
No need to fear that serger lurking in your closet. It can be one
of your best sewing friends. Come and learn the ins and outs of
an incredibly versatile machine, and you’ll be serging happily in no
time! You’ll leave knowing all the serger basics, including threading, setting tensions and when you SHOULD adjust tension settings. You’ll also learn how to use the different stitches your serger
is capable of, opening up a whole new world of decorative serging.

Fancy Facings
Try this great technique to add some
pizzazz to your clothing projects. Instead of adding just a regular facing
to a jacket front, this method will have
the facing show on the outside of the
garment. Be sure to stabilize each facing piece first. Sew the back and front
facings together in the normal manner.
Serge the outside edges of the facing
with a three thread overlock using a
heavy decorative thread in the upper
looper. Stitch the right side of the facing to the wrong side of the garment,
then turn facing to the right side of the
garment. Pin in place and press. Stitch

Raised in Wisconsin, Julie Best learned to love arts & crafts and the creative process from her “artsy” mom and grandmother. Her first experience with sewing
involved using discarded home decorating sample book fabrics to make purses
and bags. She loves to be in a creative environment and has studied photography,
weaving, and jewelry making. Her time at Sew Much More is inspiring her to
learn machine embroidery and she’s set to make her first quilt! Lately she’s been
making unusual aprons and lots of stuffed animals for her nieces and nephews.

the mid 80s to 90s. She “retired” to raise two beautiful daughters
with her husband Kevin. Now that her daughters are older, one in
law school the other at AISD’s Liberal Arts and Science Academy,
she’s come back! But she didn’t desert her sewing roots while raising her girls. She’s a past master at American Girl wardrobes and

Stephanie Hart’s mom is a quilter and she gave Stephanie the
