Conducting research that creates new knowledge in the field of health sciences and reviews improvement in existing bodies of knowledge. Contributing to the economic development and well-being of Pakistan through integrated programs in education, research and clinical care ● ● ● BUMDC Community Support Program “A Journy Towards Healthy Smiles” BACKGROUND A Glimpse In Retrospect To date, Bahria University Medical and Dental College has conducted five Community Outreach Programs between Oct’ 2013 to Feb’ 2015 under the leadership of Dr. Kulsoom Fatima, Head of the Department of Preventive and Community Dentistry. The Outreach Programs were carried out in the following schools/residential areas of Karachi. Since good oral health is important to good overall health as well as for the prevention of oral disease and unnecessary suffering. Our primary goal will be to improve the oral health of the local community by providing knowledge and opportunities to maintain good dental health. The project will serve schools, colleges and individuals residing in naval societies across Karachi including the disadvantaged population who cannot afford dental care. The project will engage the participants in activities designed to promote good oral health. We will offer educational sessions to children enrolled in our school community program. Material will be offered in both English and Urdu BUMDC Community Support Program “A Journy Towards Healthy Smiles” TIMETABLE The project will begin in the month of March with two educational sessions every month. Dental professionals and paramedical staff from BUMDC faculty will be involved in the planning, coordination and execution of the initiative. PARTNERS Colgate has offered to assist in the bimonthly sessions by providing oral healthcare kits and help with educational presentations. Dental News will offer support on press releases and coverage of the events in their magazine. FUTURE EVALUATION This initiative will be a step forward for many future activities. Our program will continue throughout the year promoting oral health among expanded population. An evaluation form will be developed and distributed among the participants to determine the effectiveness of the educational campaign.
