FUNCTIONAL SHARP POINT
Casting On Your Large Round Loom
Casting on Your Double-sided Loom
The large loom is ideal for making hats, purses and pillows. Follow the steps to learn how.
This smaller loom is good for making purse handles, hat ties, thin scarves and belts.
Knit solid colors or stripes. Add tassels, beads and buttons to finish off your designs.
1.) Knot your yarn on the anchor peg,
leaving a 6 inch tail.
A.
You will use the same e-wrap method for the double-sided loom.
2.) Wrap the yarn around the pegs as
shown in photo A. This is called the
“e-wrap” method, because each loop
resembles a lower case “e”. You can work
from the left or the right – whatever feels
more comfortable to you, just be sure the
pegs are not wrapped too tightly.
1.) The hand loom has two sides, the small end
for thinner projects, and the medium for thicker
projects. Decide what side you want to use.
2.) Feed a length of yarn through the center of thee
loom until it comes out the bottom. Knot it on onee
of the bottom pegs as shown in photo A.
3.) Continue until the entire loom is
wrapped then go all the way around again
(see photo B). There will be two loops on
each peg.
B.
3.) Wrap the yarn around the top pegs using the
e-wrap method. Build a second row onto the first as
shown in photo B.
4.) Wrap your yarn around the anchor peg
to secure it for the next step
(see photo B)
C.
D.
5.) Now it’s time to knit off the loom.
Starting with the last wrapped peg, slide
your knitting hook along the groove.
Hook the bottom loop, then pull it over
the top loop and peg as shown in photos
C and D. Release the yarn from
your hook.
A.
5.) Untie the anchor and continue knitting.
As you work, a knitted tube will start forming
inside the tool. Gently tug on the bottom end
piece of yarn. This will keep your project from
bunching up inside the tube.
6.) Work your way around the entire loom
until each peg has one loop left. You’ve
just cast on to your loom!
7.) Push the single loops down the peg
shaft to make room for another row. As
you continue to knit, your project will
get longer and longer. The final length
depends on your project, – just be sure
you have enough yarn to finish.
E.
8.) Try this – you can make stripes by
changing the yarn color. Cut the yarn on
the loom, leaving a small tail. Tie the new
yarn onto the tail with a tight knot. Cut
any excess yarn and continue. You can
change the color as much as you like, just
be sure to push any visible knots into the
woven yarn to keep them from showing.
4.) Use the knitting tool to pull the bottom row
over the top. (see photo C).
Keep working until you reach the desired length needed for your
project. Add tassels, beads and buttons to finish off the ends.
B.
Helpful Tip: Be sure the grooved side of the pegs are facing out. If
the pegs become loose or fall out, secure them with a little craft glue.
Using Your Needle Threader
Thread both your large plastic needle
and your sewing needle using the
needle threader as shown.

Removing Your Piece from the Loom
Removing Your Piece from the Loom
There are a couple ways to remove your pieces from the looms. These methods can be
used for both the large round and double-sided looms.

1.) When your knitting is finished, knit off the loom until there is one row of loops left on
the pegs. Make sure your working yarn is about two times the diameter of your loom.
1.) When your knitting is finished, knit off the loom until there is one row of loops left on
the pegs. Make sure your working yarn is about two times the diameter of your loom.
2.) Use the needle threader to thread the working yarn through the large plastic needle.
2.) Thread the remaining yarn through the large plastic needle. Using the needle, feed the
yarn through the first loop two times. Pull that first loop off the peg and pull it to tighten.
(see photos A & B)
3.) Feed the yarn through the first loop as shown in photo A pulling all the way through.
Continue onto the second loop and so on until you have gone all the way around the loom.
3.) Feed the yarn through the second loop twice then pull it off the peg. Continue onto the
third loop and so on until you have removed each loop from the loom.
4.) Bring the yarn through the first loop again then remove you
your
piece from the loom. Turn it inside out.
4.) To make a purse, use the remaining yarn to sew the bottom closed as shown in photo C.
5.) Gather the yarn you just sewed with and pull it taughtt
until your knitted piece is completely closed.
(See photos B and C)
6.) Make sure your knot is tight and secure.
Trim the excess yarn and then follow along the
remaining instructions to make tassels and other
fun embellishments.
Congratulations! You’ve just made a hat.
NOTE: To make larger hats, use stretchy yarn available at most craft stores.
5.) Tie a knot to secure and trim the end. (see photo D) Read on to learn how to add the
finishing touches.

1.) While holding your yarn at the base of your tassel maker, begin
wrapping it around as shown in photos A and B. The more times
you wrap, the thicker your tassel will be.
2.) Once your tassel is as thick as you like, cut the loose end of the
yarn at the base of the tassel maker. Be sure not to cut the yarn you
just wrapped. (see photo B)

3.) Refer to photo C. Cut two pieces of yarn about 6 inches in
length. Feed piece 1 through the yarn at the very top of the tassel
maker and tie a knot. Wrap piece 2 around the yarn in the center
of the tassel maker towards the top. Then tie a knot. Trim off the
excess yarn.
4.) Cut the very bottom
wrapped yarn as shown in photo D.
