Colorado Crafted :: Globally Inspired
Beginner Apprentice
All WMT participants begin a four-week curriculum of color matching and
sorting, operating a machine, hand embroidery, reading patterns, cutting
fabrics, and machine control. Participants gain confidence by practicing
conversational English during our weekly Tea Time. Community field trips
to local supply stores and businesses are included. An assessment is
given to all participants.
Intermediate Artiste
Upon acceptance (based on completion of the Beginner assessment) An
8-week curriculum introduces artistic expression through fabric dyeing
and manipulation, and focuses on further advancement of sewing
techniques. Included in the curriculum is financial literacy training
(budgeting, banking, saving), ESL and the opportunity to practice retail
sales. Upon completion of the second evaluation graduates receive a
donated sewing machine for personal use.
Artisan and Teacher
After a final assessment (post Artiste assessment that is based on
independent sewing), artisans use the machines at home or go to the
studio at our Safari Thrift location to do commission orders and qualitymade products that we continue to sell. Artisans have opportunities to
design their own product. In addition, the artisan is invited to the WMT
classroom to empower other participants through teaching, quality
control, and instilling skillsets to the new Apprentices and Artistes.
