OUTLINE ITINERARY
Day1: UNITED STATES TO SHANNON
Depart your hometown and take an overnight flight across the Atlantic.
Day 2: SHANNON ARRIVAL & BUNRATTY FOLK PARK
Your CIE Tours driver/guide will welcome you to Ireland and take you to your
motorcoach. Journey along to the village of Bunratty and visit Bunratty Folk
Park, which comprises a collection of farmhouses from different regions of
Ireland and a 19th century village street. Then check into your hotel and freshen
up before a welcome drink and dinner with your fellow travelers. This evening
join in the fun and feasting at Bunratty or Knappogue Castle. Your medieval-style
banquet is served in the Great Hall of the 15th century castle.
Day 3: CLIFFS OF MOHER & GALWAY
Depart Bunratty and drive to the coast of Clare to view the Cliffs of Moher. This
impressive wall of rock rises to almost 700 feet above the foaming Atlantic
breakers. Continue your journey north to Galway and see the principal sights of
the city. Then check into your hotel. You may choose to relax or spend some time
around Eyre Square, the hub of the city. Most of the shops are within easy reach
and there are also many quaint pubs where Irish traditional music is played. In the
evening join your group for dinner at the hotel restaurant.
Day 4: CONNEMARA & ASHFORD CASTLE
This morning drive through the Connemara region, known for its constantly
changing light effects on the gentle slopes of the hills. Enjoy a River Corrib mini
cruise luncheon from the palatial grounds of Ashford Castle, voted by Conde
Nast to be one of the most romantic hotel destinations in the world, and then
enjoy the splendid gardens for some spectacular photo ops. Return to Galway,
where the evening is free for individual pursuits and dining.
Day 5: ADARE & FOYNES FLYING BOAT MUSEUM
Leaving Galway, travel through Gort and Ennis. Drive through the city of
Limerick, strategically situated on the River Shannon. Continue on to Adare,
which is famous for its main street of thatched houses and colorful gardens. After
a stop for photos and a walk along the main street, motor a short distance to
Foynes and visit the Flying Boat Museum. During the 1930s and early 1940s, the
port of Foynes was the fulcrum point for air traffic between the United States and
Europe. Irish Coffee was first created here to warm frozen, weary travelers and
you will learn how to make a perfect one and then drink it. After your visit motor
southwest to Dingle and check in to your hotel. Freshen up and settle in before
joining your group for dinner.
Day 6: DINGLE PENINSULA TOUR
Today discover the beauties of the Dingle Peninsula, made famous by David
Lean’s movie, “Ryan’s Daughter.” Drive along the south shore of the peninsula
for plenty of vistas of heathery mountains, sandy stretches of beach and rocky
headlands. There will be frequent stops at strategic locations to admire the views
and take photos. Continue to the western tip of the peninsula where the scenery
becomes wilder as the influence of the open Atlantic Ocean strengthens. You will
pass early Christian monastic beehive huts and small fishing villages. Return to
Dingle and enjoy some time at leisure before dinner.
Day 7: MUCKROSS GARDENS & KINSALE
Depart Dingle and travel east along the Dingle peninsula to just outside Killarney.
See the delightful Muckross House, an elegant 19th century mansion set beside
the tranquil Muckross Lake. Take a short walk through the gardens before
journeying into Killarney. Next travel to the Gap of Dunloe to visit Moriarty’s
Irish Gift Store, where you will have some time to browse and shop. After your
shopping excursion, drive southeast to the peaceful fishing town of Kinsale. Upon
arrival check into your hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 8: BLARNEY CASTLE & WOOLLEN MILLS
This morning drive north through the rich farming country of Cork to Blarney and
stop to climb to the battlements of Blarney Castle to kiss the famous "Stone of
Eloquence." Also visit the Blarney Woollen Mills, which has an excellent range
of Irish products of all types. You will also have time to browse around the
village, charmingly set around a large village green. After your visit, return to
Kinsale and enjoy the balance of the afternoon and evening at leisure for
independent sightseeing, shopping, dining and more.
Day 9: KINSALE TO DUBLIN & TAYLORS THREE ROCK
Leaving Kinsale and drive through the midland region where you will see many
farms and marketing towns. Your route will take you past the towns of Portlaoise
and Kildare and on to the town of Dun Laoghaire. Upon arrival check into your
hotel and enjoy some time to settle in before this evening’s festivities. This
evening drive to Taylors Three Rock for dinner followed by a lively show of
traditional Irish songs, dancing and music.
Day 10: DUBLIN HIGHLIGHTS & FREE TIME
After breakfast at your hotel drive into Dublin for a panoramic tour around the
city. After your tour, enjoy some leisure time in Dublin where you can choose
from a wide variety of pursuits. There are plenty of museums, shops and
traditional pubs you may visit. Return to Dun Laoghaire in time for a farewell
dinner in the hotel restaurant tonight.
Day 11: RETURN TO THE UNITED STATES
Transfer to Dublin Airport in plenty of time to check in for your flight, clear
security and claim your VAT refund. You may do some last minute shopping at
the duty free stores before boarding your aircraft and flying west across the
Atlantic Ocean back to the United States.
