Caldwell Serving Caldwell County North Carolina Volume 1, Issue 29 www.CaldwellJournal.com Free Thursday, April 16, 2015 sweetFrog opening location in Granite Falls By Mark Jackson {Caldwell Journal}...To the delight of many Granite Falls area residents, sweetFrog is com ing to Gr anite Falls. Not only do they have the best frozen yogurt…they are passionate about being a good neighbor. Their goal is to create the best frozen yogurt experience you've ever had! You create your own combination of delicious, soft-serve premium frozen yogurt, then finish it off with any toppings you choose. Their toppings bar is stocked fresh every day with the best ingredients for a light snack, a decadent dessert, and everything in between. “You pick the flavors, you add the toppings, you make it your way!” The F.R.O.G. in sweetFrog stands for Fully Rely On God, and they show that by being a good neighbor everywhere they move into. Through local partnerships, fundraisers, and much more, their stores become part of the fabric that wraps their communities. This new store will be owned and operated by two local families that live right here in Granite Falls. The owners took over the two franchises in Catawba County. One beside Atlanta Bread in the Target & Best Buy shopping center and one in Viewmont. They are relocating the Viewmont store to Caldwell County in Granite Falls. They have also opened a concessions stand in the Hickory Crawdads Stadium. The owners are very excited and passionate about relocating the store to Granite Falls. They conceived the idea of opening a sweetFrog store last August and in October they purchased the Hickory stores. The big question is, when are they going to open? At this time, there is no official opening date available but I can tell you it won’t be long. The owners hope to open the store by the end of May or sooner. They already have a few employees working at their Hickory store so they will be trained and ready to go by the time the new store opens. sweetFrog w ill be located in th e W alm ar t shopping center n ear Fr an kie's Pizza at 239 R iver Bend Drive in Granite Falls. Update: Arrests Made in Trout Hatchery Vandalism By the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office...Detective J.T. Gr indstaff of the McDow ell County Sheriff’s Office charged 23-year-old Jack Daniel Brown, of Spaulding Road in Marion; 21-yearold Gabriel Paul Miller, of Wayne Street in Marion; and 20-year-old Adam Timothy Mitchell, of Virginia Road in Marion, with one misdemeanor count each of polluting hatchery water, robbing or injuring hatcheries or aquatics and injury to personal property. The three are accused of killing 150,000 rainbow trout at Armstrong Fish Hatchery, on Armstrong Creek Road in Marion, on Saturday, April 4. Capt. Shanon Smith of the Sheriff’s Office said the three, who have no connection to the hatchery, were there over the weekend tampering with equipment that they shouldn’t have been tampering with. Hatchery officials said the men opened a gate, which diverted the supply of water and oxygen away from the 150,000 fish. Smith added that the hatchery is private property, but officials had been leaving the road open to allow access for hunters and hikers to cross into U.S. Forest Service land. The fish that were killed were valued at approximately $150,000. 2 Thursday, April 16, 2015 Caldwell Journal Info “Published each Thursday by the Caldwell Journal” Established October 2, 2014 Volume 1, Issue 29 Advertising Rates: 1/12 Page Ad - $30.00 for 4 weeks (1.275” high x 3.225” wide) 1/6 Page Ad - $45.00 for 4 weeks (2.55” high x 3.225” wide) 1/2 Page Ad - $65.00 for 4 weeks (7.65” high x 3.225” wide) Full Page Ad - $95.00 for 4 weeks (7.65” high x 6.45” wide) Contact Us: www.caldwelljournal.com www.facebook.com/CaldwellJournal [email protected] 828.493.4798 The content of the articles or the advertisements does not necessarily represent the opinions of anyone affiliated with the Caldwell Journal. These storm chasers knock on doors, saying that nearby roofs were damaged and offer to inspect your roof. Some companies call rather than knock, but the pitch is the same. The roofer’s inspection always reveals damage. He may claim that your insurance will cover all costs and then ask you to sign a document to inform your insurance company about the situation. However, the document is actually a binding legal contract for expensive repairs. We’ve taken dishonest roofers who run this scheme to court, but unfortunately other roofers continue to use these crooked practices. To protect yourself from storm chaser scams: Beware of construction and repair firms that call or go door-to-door for customers. Get a second opinion before you agree to have any work done, and get estimates in writing. Ask questions, and trust your instincts if the situation seems suspicious. Read paperwork carefully and don’t sign anything you don’t fully understand. If a salesperson “forgets” to tell you that you have a three-day right to cancel, remember: that law can still provide a helpful remedy against a spur-of-the -moment decision that you quickly come to regret. If you spot this scam in action, call Attorney General Roy Cooper’s Consumer Protection Division at 1-877-5-NO-SCAM toll-free within North Carolina or file a complaint online. 17 18 Thursday, April 16, 2015 Terry’s Insurance 23-1 Falls Avenue Granite Falls, NC 828-310-2865 [email protected] Life * Health * Medicare Supplements * Part D Medicare Advantage * Long Term Care Insurance “Also providing Custom Window Treatments” Drapery Bed Ensembles Blinds Shutters Shades Decorating Service Upholstered Cornices Installation Call Carolyn Whisnant 828-381-9597 Or drop by anytime! 23-1 Falls Avenue, Granite Falls, NC Trends Hair Salon Trends Hair Salon would like to thank all of our loyal, wonderful, customers for 16 years of great business! And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved.” When you hear the news and know the condition of the world, does it give you hope, and make you happy? When you see that people in the world are not living life God’s way, the way life is supposed to be lived, then you realize that our world is in a mess. We are so used to the ways of evil, Satan’s way, that we can hardly imagine what God’s way of living would be like. How great would it be to have no more killing, no more robbing, no more fighting or even pain and sickness? God’s way is love, joy, peace, and happiness.
