SAINT JOHN THE EVANGELIST, CALGARY
A Roman Catholic Parish of the Personal Ordinariate of the Chair of Saint Peter
– under the patronage of Our Lady of Walsingham –
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
WELCOME TO ST JOHN’S, CALGARY, especially if you are a visitor
or newcomer. Founded in 1905 as an Anglican parish, we were received
into the full communion of the Roman Catholic Church in 2011. We
are a parish of the Personal Ordinariate of the Chair of St Peter, a new
structure of the Catholic Church established by Pope Benedict XVI as a
result of his Apostolic Constitution Anglicanorum cœtibus, which allows
for former Anglicans to enter the Catholic Church whilst maintaining
elements of their theological, spiritual, and liturgical patrimony.
St John’s is a friendly, family-oriented and welcoming community of traditional Catholic faith
and practice, as reflected in our liturgy, music and preaching. We exist to worship God in the
triune majesty of the Blessed Trinity, drawing all men and women into deepest communion
with him through his Son, our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, and in the power and
fellowship of the Holy Spirit. If you are new, please introduce yourself to us.
HOLY MASS. On Sundays Mass is offered according to Divine Worship at 10 a.m. (Solemn
Sung or High) or 5 p.m. (Low, with hymns). Daily Masses are offered: Monday 7 p.m., Tuesday

PRELUDE
OPENING HYMN
Adagio from Twelve Voluntarys (William Goodwin, d.1784)
Come down, O Love Divine (Down Ampney) 487
Upon reaching the Sanctuary, the Celebrant kneels. All remain standing. The Vidi Aquam is intoned.
The Celebrant sprinkles the Altar, himself, and then stands to sprinkle the Servers, and Choir. He then
proceeds through church sprinkling the people with holy water to remind them of their Baptism. All
make the Sign of the Cross when sprinkled.
VIDI AQUAM
arr. Francis Burgess (1879–1948)
Celebrant :
Let us pray.
RACIOUSLY HEAR US, O Lord holy, Father almighty, everlasting God:
and vouchsafe to send thy holy Angel from heaven; to guard and cherish,
to protect and visit, and to defend all who dwell in this thy holy
habitation. Through Christ our Lord.
Following the Vidi Aquam the Celebrant changes his cope for the chasuble, the priestly Mass outer
vestment. The Prayers at the Foot of the Altar are recited by the Celebrant and Servers. The Altar is then
incensed. Meanwhile, the Choir begins the Introit proper to the Mass of the day.

The COLLECT for PURITY (kneel)
Celebrant :
All :
ALMIGHTY GOD, unto whom all hearts be open, all desires known and
from whom no secrets are hid: cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the
inspiration of thy Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love thee, and
worthily magnify thy holy Name. Through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
The Celebrant goes to the middle of the Altar and, turning to the people, says:
The SUMMARY of the LAW
Celebrant :
HEAR WHAT OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST SAITH: Thou shalt love
the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy
mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like
unto it: Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two
commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.
The Celebrant returns to the Epistle side of the Altar as all sing in Greek, the Kyrie:
Missa de Sancta Maria Magdalena in D (Healey Willan CC, 1880–1968)
KYRIE
The Celebrant returns to the middle of the Altar. He intones the Gloria, sung by all.

The Celebrant kisses the Altar and turns to the people to sing the salutation. He then goes to the Epistle
side of the Altar and sings the Collect of the day, which ‘collects’ our prayers, addressing God the Father,
through our Lord Jesus Christ, in the unity of the Holy Spirit.
The COLLECT
GOD, who on this day didst teach the hearts of thy faithful people by
sending to them the light of thy Holy Spirit: Grant us by the same Spirit
to have a right judgement in all things, and evermore to rejoice in his

The Celebrant goes to the sedilia. All sit for the Readings.
– THE LITURGY OF THE WORD –
The LESSON (Acts 2.1–11) (sit)
Lector :
The Lesson from the Book of Acts.
HEN THE DAY OF PENTECOST HAD COME, they were all together
in one place. And suddenly a sound came from heaven like the rush of a
mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there
appeared to them tongues as of fire, distributed and resting on each one
of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other
tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews,
devout men from every nation under heaven. And at this sound the multitude came
together, and they were bewildered, because each one heard them speaking in his own
language. And they were amazed and wondered, saying, “Are not all these who are
speaking Galileans? And how is it that we hear, each of us in his own native language?
Parthians and Medes and Elamites and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and
Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya
belonging to Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and
Arabians, we hear them telling in our own tongues the mighty works of God.”
Lector :
All :
The word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.
The Gradual is omitted in Eastertide.
The EPISTLE (1 Corinthians 12.3b–7 & 12–13)
Lector :
The Lesson from the First Epistle of blessed John the Apostle.
RETHREN: No one can say “Jesus is Lord” except by the Holy Spirit.
Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are
varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of working,
but it is the same God who inspires them all in every one. To each is
given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For just as
the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many,
are one body, so it is with Christ. For by one Spirit we were all baptised into one body –
Jews or Greeks, slaves or free – and all were made to drink of one Spirit.
Lector :
All :
The word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.
We now prepare for the Gospel, wherein we hear the words and actions of Our Lord. The Celebrant goes
to the Altar and incense is blessed, to show reverence for the Gospel. The Celebrant bows low before the
Altar to ask for God’s blessing. Meanwhile the Gradual Hymn is sung, followed by the Sequence and
Alleluia, as the Gospel procession makes its way to the nave.
GRADUAL HYMN
THE SEQUENCE (Veni, Sancte Spíritus)
Spirit of mercy, truth and love (Melcombe) 181
ALLELUIA (Emítte Spíritum. Psalm 104.30)
The HOLY GOSPEL (St John 17.11b–19)
At this, all make the Sign of the Cross on our forehead, lips and heart, asking that our thoughts, words
and desires be cleansed in readiness to hear the Gospel.
ON THE EVENING OF THAT DAY, the first day of the week, the doors being shut
where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said
to them, “Peace be with you.” When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his
side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again,
“Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you.” And when he had
said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive
the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.”

The PRAYERS of the PEOPLE
Celebrant :
Let us pray for the whole Church of God in Christ Jesus and for all men
according to their needs. (kneel)
LMIGHTY AND EVERLIVING GOD, who by thy holy apostle hast
taught us to make prayers and supplications and to give thanks for all
men: We humbly beseech thee most mercifully to receive these our
prayers which we offer unto thy divine majesty, beseeching thee to inspire
continually the Universal Church with the spirit of truth, unity and
concord; and grant that all they that do confess thy holy Name may agree in the truth of
thy holy Word, and live in unity and godly love.
Give grace, O heavenly Father, to Francis our Pope, Jeffrey our Ordinary, and to all
bishops, priests and deacons that they may, both by their life and doctrine, set forth thy
true and lively Word, and rightly and duly administer thy holy Sacraments.
We beseech thee also to lead all nations in the way of righteousness and peace; and so
direct all kings and rulers that under them thy people may be godly and quietly
governed. And grant unto thy servant Elizabeth, our Queen, and to all that are put in
authority under her that they may truly and impartially administer justice to the
punishment of wickedness and vice and to the maintenance of thy peace and virtue.
Guide and prosper, we pray thee, those who are labouring for the spread of thy Gospel
among the nations and enlighten with thy Spirit all places of education and learning;
that the whole world may be filled with the knowledge of thy truth.
And to all thy people give thy heavenly grace, and specially to this congregation here
present; that with meek heart and due reverence they may hear and receive thy holy
Word, truly serving thee in holiness and righteousness all the days of their life.
And we most humbly beseech thee of thy goodness, O Lord, to comfort and succour all
them who, in this transitory life are in trouble, sorrow, need, sickness, or any other
adversity, especially NN.
And we commend to thy gracious keeping, O Lord, all thy servants departed this life in
thy faith and fear, especially NN., beseeching thee according to thy promises to grant
them refreshment, light and peace.
And here we give thee most high praise and hearty thanks for all thy Saints, most
especially the Blessed Virgin Mary, Our Lady of Walsingham, our holy patron St John
the Evangelist, St Peter, St John the Baptist, and all thy saints, who have been the
chosen vessels of thy grace and lights of the world in their several generations; and we
pray that rejoicing in their fellowship and following their good examples, we may be
partakers with them of thy heavenly kingdom.
Grant this, O Father, for Jesus Christ’s sake, our Mediator and Advocate.
All :
Amen.
The PENITENTIAL RITE
Celebrant :
YE THAT DO TRULY AND EARNESTLY repent you of your sins, and
are in love and charity with your neighbours, and intend to lead a new
life, following the commandments of God, and walking from henceforth
in his holy ways; Draw near with faith, and make your humble confession
to Almighty God, meekly kneeling upon your knees.
Celebrant :
All :
ALMIGHTY GOD,
Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, maker of all things, judge of all men: We
acknowledge and bewail our manifold sins and wickedness, which we
from time to time most grievously have committed, by thought, word, and
deed, against thy divine Majesty, provoking most justly thy wrath and
indignation against us. We do earnestly repent, and are heartily sorry for
these our misdoings; the remembrance of them is grievous unto us; the
burden of them is intolerable. Have mercy upon us, have mercy upon us,
most merciful Father; for thy Son our Lord Jesus Christ’s sake, forgive us
all that is past; and grant that we may ever hereafter serve and please thee
in newness of life, to the honour and glory of thy Name. Through Jesus
Christ our Lord. Amen.
Celebrant :
MAY ALMIGHTY GOD, our heavenly Father, who of his great mercy
hath promised forgiveness of sins to all those who with hearty repentance
and true faith turn unto him; have mercy on us; par don and deliver us
from all our sins; confirm and strengthen us in all goodness; and bring us
to everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
All :
The COMFORTABLE WORDS
Celebrant :
HEAR WHAT COMFORTABLE WORDS our Saviour Christ saith
unto all who truly turn to him.
COME UNTO ME, all ye that travail and are heavy laden, and I will refresh you. (St
Matthew 11.28)
GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD that he gave his only begotten Son, to the end that all
that believe in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (St John 3.16)
HEAR ALSO what Saint Paul saith: This is a true saying, and worthy of all men to be
received, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. (1 Timothy 1.15)
HEAR ALSO what Saint John saith: If any man sin, we have an Advocate with the
Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; and he is the Propitiation for our sins. (1 St John 2.1–2)
– THE LITURGY OF THE EUCHARIST –
The Altar is now prepared. Bread and wine are brought to the Celebrant in procession. The Celebrant
prepares the Altar and blesses incense. He hallows the gifts for the sacrifice. He next incenses the Crucifix
above the Altar, and finally the Altar itself. The Servers, Choir, and finally the people, are all then
incensed, so that all may take their part in offering the sacrifice to God.
OFFERTORY SENTENCE (Confírma hoc. Psalm 68.28–29)
OFFERTORY HYMN
Come, thou Holy Spirit, come (Veni Sancte Spiritus) 481
ORATE, FRATRES
Celebrant :
All :
PRAY, BRETHREN, that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable unto
God, the Father almighty.
May the Lord accept the sacrifice at thy hands, for the praise and glory of
his Name, for our good and the good of all his holy Church.
The PRAYER over the OFFERINGS
RANT, WE PRAY, O LORD, that, as promised by thy Son, the Holy Spirit
may reveal to us more abundantly the hidden mystery of this sacrifice and
graciously lead us into all truth. Through Christ our Lord.
The Eucharistic Prayer of praise and thanksgiving is the centre and high point of the whole celebration.
The congregation joins Christ in acknowledging the works of God and in offering his sacrifice to the
Father. The Eucharistic Prayer begins with a Preface appropriate for the day:

should at all times, and in all places, give thanks unto thee, O Lord, holy
Father, almighty, everlasting God; through Jesus Christ our Lord;
according to whose true promise the Holy Ghost came down on this day
from heaven, lighting upon the disciples, to teach them and to lead
them into all truth; uniting peoples of many tongues in the confession of one faith, and
giving to thy Church the power to serve thee as a royal priesthood, and to preach the
gospel to all nations. Therefore with Angels and Archangels, and with all the company
of heaven, we laud and magnify thy glorious Name; evermore praising thee, and saying:

The CANON of the MASS (kneel)
The Celebrant continues with the Canon of the Mass, with a petition for the acceptance of the sacrifice:
HEREFORE, MOST MERCIFUL FATHER, we humbly pray thee,
through Jesus Christ thy Son our Lord, and we ask, that thou accept
and bless these gifts, these offerings, these holy and unblemished
sacrifices. We offer them unto thee, first, for thy holy Catholic
Church: that thou vouchsafe to keep her in peace, to guard, unite,
and govern her throughout the whole world; together with thy
servant Francis our Pope, Jeffrey our Ordinary, and all the faithful guardians of the
Catholic and Apostolic faith.
The Celebrant now prays for all the living:
Remember, O Lord, thy servants and handmaids (the Celebrant pauses briefly in silent
prayer) and all who here around us stand, whose faith is known unto thee and their
steadfastness manifest, on whose behalf we offer unto thee, or who themselves offer unto
thee this sacrifice of praise; for themselves, and for all who are theirs; for the redemption
of their souls, for the hope of their health and well-being; and who offer their prayers
unto thee, the eternal God, the living and the true.
He now prays in communion with Our Lady and all the Saints:
United in one communion, we celebrate the most sacred day of Pentecost, whereon the
Holy Spirit appeared to the Apostles in tongues innumerable; we venerate moreover the
memory, first, of the glorious ever-Virgin Mary, Mother of the same our God and Lord
Jesus Christ; of Joseph her spouse; as also of thy blessed Apostles and Martyrs, Peter and
Paul, Andrew, James, John, Thomas, James, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Simon and
Thaddaeus; Linus, Cletus, Clement, Xystys, Cornelius, Cyprian, Lawrence,
Chrysogonus, John and Paul, Cosmos and Damian and of all thy saints; grant that by
their merits and prayers we may in all things be defended with the help of thy
protection.
He now offers a petition for peace and salvation:
We beseech thee then, O Lord, graciously to accept this oblation from us thy servants,
and from thy whole family: we present it unto thee on behalf also of those whom thou
hast vouchsafed to regenerate by water and the Holy Spirit, granting unto them
remission of all their sins; order thou our days in thy peace, and bid us to be delivered
from eternal damnation, and to be numbered in the fold of thine elect.
He invokes the holiness of God to hallow the offerings:
Vouchsafe, O God, we beseech thee, in all things to make this oblation blessed,
approved and accepted, a perfect and worthy offering; that it may become for us the
Body and Blood of thy dearly beloved Son, our Lord Jesus Christ.
The account of Our Lord’s words and actions at the Last Supper is the very heart of the Canon of the
Mass, during which the bread and the wine are consecrated to become the Body and Blood of the Lord:
Who the day before he suffered, took bread into his holy and venerable hands, and with
eyes lifted up to heaven, unto thee, God, his almighty Father, giving thanks to thee, he
blessed, broke and gave it to his disciples, saying:
TAKE THIS, ALL OF YOU, AND EAT OF IT: FOR THIS IS MY BODY WHICH
WILL BE GIVEN UP FOR YOU.
The Celebrant elevates the Sacred Host so that all may adore. Bells are rung and the Thurifer incenses
the Blessed Sacrament as a sign of our adoration of the real presence of our Saviour.
Likewise, after supper, taking also this goodly chalice into his holy and venerable hands,
again giving thanks to thee, he blessed, and gave it to his disciples, saying:
TAKE THIS, ALL OF YOU, AND DRINK FROM IT: FOR THIS IS THE CHALICE
OF MY BLOOD, THE BLOOD OF THE NEW AND ETERNAL COVENANT,
WHICH WILL BE POURED OUT FOR YOU AND FOR MANY FOR THE
FORGIVENESS OF SINS. DO THIS IN MEMORY OF ME.
The Celebrant shows the Chalice of the Precious Blood in the same way. He then intones:
He continues with a solemn recalling of the Lord’s death and resurrection:
HEREFORE, O LORD, we thy servants, and thy holy people also,
remembering the blessed passion of the same Christ thy Son our Lord,
as also his resurrection from the dead, and his glorious ascension into
heaven: do offer unto thine excellent majesty of thine own gifts and
bounty, the pure victim, the holy victim, the immaculate victim, the holy
Bread of eternal life, and the Chalice of everlasting salvation.
He now prays that God may accept the sacrifice the Church now offers:
Vouchsafe to look upon them with a merciful and pleasant countenance; and to accept
them, even as thou didst vouchsafe to accept the gifts of thy servant Abel the righteous,
and the sacrifice of our patriarch Abraham; and the holy sacrifice, the immaculate
victim, which thy high priest Melchisedech offered unto thee.
He invokes the Holy Spirit upon those who are to receive Holy Communion, so as to sanctify them:
We humbly beseech thee, Almighty God: command these offerings to be brought by the
hands of thy holy Angel to thine altar on high, in sight of thy divine majesty; that all we
who at this partaking of the altar shall receive the most sacred Body and Blood of thy
Son, may be fulfilled with all heavenly benediction and grace.
He prays for all the Faithful Departed:
Remember also, O Lord, thy servants and handmaids, who have gone before us sealed
with the seal of faith, and who sleep the sleep of peace. (the Celebrant pauses briefly in silent
prayer) To them, O Lord, and to all that rest in Christ, we beseech thee to grant the
abode of refreshing, of light, and of peace.
He prays that we be worthy to join the Communion of Saints:
To us sinners also, thy servants, who hope in the multitude of thy mercies,
vouchsafe to grant some part and fellowship with thy holy Apostles and Martyrs: with
John, Stephen, Matthias, Barnabas, Ignatius, Alexander, Marcellinus, Peter, Felicitas,
Perpetua, Agatha, Lucy, Agnes, Cecilia, Anastasia, and with all thy saints: within whose
fellowship, we beseech thee, admit us, not weighing our merit, but granting us
forgiveness. Through Jesus Christ our Lord, through whom, O Lord, thou dost ever
create all these good things; dost sanctify, quicken, bless, and bestow them upon us.
The Celebrant concludes with the Doxology, the ‘giving of praise’, to the Father, through the Son, in the
Spirit. He elevates the Chalice and Sacred Host together as he alone sings:
By whom and with whom and in whom, to thee, O Father Almighty, in the unity of the
Holy Ghost, be all honour and glory, throughout all ages, world without end.
All sing the great Amen to affirm belief in the Sacrifice of Christ here offered on the Altar for us:
– THE COMMUNION RITE –
The LORD’S PRAYER (stand)
The Celebrant continues the final petition of the Lord’s Prayer alone:
ELIVER US, O LORD, we beseech thee, from all evils, past, present,
and to come; and at the intercession of the blessed and glorious everVirgin Mary, Mother of God, and with thy blessed Apostles Peter and
Paul, and with Andrew, and all the Saints, favourably grant peace in
our days, that by the help of thine availing mercy we may ever both
be free from sin and safe from all distress.
The PAX
The Celebrant bows lows and prays for peace as a preparation for the giving of the Kiss of Peace (Pax):
Celebrant :
All :
O LORD JESUS CHRIST, who saidst to thine Apostles, Peace I leave
with you; my peace I give unto you: Regard not our sins, but the faith of
thy Church; and grant to her peace and unity according to thy will; who
livest and reignest with the Father and the Holy Ghost, one God, world
without end.
Amen.
Kissing the Altar and turning towards the people, the Celebrant sings:
The FRACTION (kneel)
All kneel as the Celebrant then takes the Host and breaks it over the Chalice, singing:
Missa Simplicior (John Merbecke, c.1510–c.1585)

The PRAYER of HUMBLE ACCESS
Celebrant :
All :
WE DO NOT PRESUME
to come to this thy Table, O merciful Lord, trusting in our own
righteousness, but in thy manifold and great mercies. We are not worthy
so much as to gather up the crumbs under thy Table. But thou art the
same Lord, whose property is always to have mercy: Grant us therefore,
gracious Lord, so to eat the flesh of thy dear Son Jesus Christ, and to
drink his blood, that our sinful bodies may be made clean by his body,
and our souls washed through his most precious blood, and that we may
evermore dwell in him, and he in us. Amen.
The Celebrant turns to the people and, raising the Sacred Host over the Chalice, says:
ECCE, AGNUS DEI
Celebrant :
All :
BEHOLD THE LAMB OF GOD, behold him that taketh away the
sins of the world. Blessed are those who are called to the Supper of the
Lamb.
Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof,
but speak the word only, and my soul shall be healed. (said thrice, striking
the breast with the right hand each time)
COMMUNION SENTENCE (Factus est repénte. Acts 2.2 & 4)
HOLY COMMUNION
Because Catholics believe that the Eucharist is a sign of the reality of the oneness of faith, life and
worship, members of those churches with whom we are not fully united are ordinarily not admitted to
Holy Communion. All who are not receiving Holy Communion are encouraged to express in their
hearts a prayerful desire for unity with the Lord Jesus and with one another. If you would like to
receive a blessing, please bow your head and cross your arms over your chest at the Altar rail.
AN ACT OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNION FOR THOSE NOT RECEIVING
I WORSHIP THEE, Lord Jesus, and kneeling unto thee, as thou didst come to Mary, I pray thee
come to me. O most loving Jesus, O most blessed Saviour, come to me, I beseech thee, and unite me to
thyself. Though I cannot now receive thee sacramentally, yet I believe that thou art able, even when
received by faith and desire only, to heal, enrich and sanctify me. Come thou spiritually into my
heart. I desire to unite myself to thee with all the affections of my soul. Possess me wholly; let the
consuming fire of thy love absorb me, and thy presence abide so intimately in me, that it will be no
longer I that live, but thou who livest in me. Amen. Come, Lord Jesus, and dwell in my heart. Amen.

– THE CONCLUDING RITES –
The Celebrant now invites all to make a thanksgiving for the gift of Christ offered and given to us.
The THANKSGIVING (kneel)
Celebrant :
All :
ALMIGHTY AND EVERLIVING GOD,
we most heartily thank thee for that thou dost feed us, in these holy
mysteries, with the spiritual food of the most precious Body and Blood of
thy Son our Saviour Jesus Christ; and dost assure us thereby of thy favour
and goodness towards us; and that we are very members incorporate in
the mystical body of thy Son, the blessed company of all faithful people;
and are also heirs, through hope, of thy everlasting kingdom, by the
merits of the most precious death and passion of thy dear Son. And we
humbly beseech thee, O heavenly Father, so to assist us with thy grace,
that we may continue in that holy fellowship, and do all such good works
as thou hast prepared for us to walk in; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to
whom, with thee, and the Holy Ghost, be all honour and glory, world
without end. Amen.
The POST-COMMUNION
Celebrant :
Let us pray.
GOD, who bestowest heavenly gifts upon thy Church, safeguard, we pray,
the grace thou hast given, that the gift of the Holy Spirit poured out upon
her may retain all its force and that this spiritual food may gain her
abundance of eternal redemption. Through Christ our Lord.
The BLESSING
The Celebrant goes to the middle of the Altar. He kisses it and, turning to the people, says:
Celebrant :
All :
The Lord be with you.
And with thy spirit.
The Celebrant now imparts the Blessing, saying:
Celebrant :
All :
THE PEACE OF GOD, which passeth all understanding, keep your
hearts and minds in the knowledge and love of God, and of his Son Jesus
Christ our Lord; and the bles sing of God Almighty, the Father, the Son,
and the Holy Ghost, be amongst you and remain with you always.
Amen.
The Celebrant turns to the people and dismisses them, singing:
The DISMISSAL
All stand as the Celebrant now goes to the Gospel side of the Altar to proclaim the Last Gospel.
The LAST GOSPEL (St John 1.1–14) (stand)
Celebrant :
All :
The Lord be with you.
And with thy spirit.
Celebrant :
All :
The beginning of the Holy Gospel according to John.
Glory be to thee, O Lord.
N THE BEGINNING WAS THE WORD, and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All
things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that
was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light
shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. There was a
man sent from God, whose name was John. The same came for a witness, to bear witness
of the Light, that all men through him might believe. He was not that Light, but was
sent to bear witness of that Light. That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that
cometh into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the
world knew him not. He came unto his own, and his own received him not. But as many
as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that
believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of
the will of man, but of God. And the Word was made flesh, (all genuflect) and dwelt
among us, and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of
grace and truth.
All :
Thanks be to God.
All stand. The Celebrant and Servers form up before the High Altar. All join in singing the Regina
Cæli, in honour of Our Lady, with whom we greatly rejoice in the Resurrection of her Son.
REGINA CÆLI
Joy to thee, O Queen of heaven, alleluia!
He whom thou wast meet to bear, alleluia!
As he promised, hath arisen, alleluia!
Pour for us to God thy prayer, alleluia!
Celebrant :
All :
Rejoice and be glad, O Virgin Mary, alleluia!
For the Lord hath risen indeed, alleluia!
Celebrant :
Let us pray.
GOD, who by the resurrection of thy Son our Lord Jesus Christ hast
vouchsafed to give joy to the whole world; grant, we beseech thee, that
through the prayers of his Mother, the Virgin Mary, we may obtain the
joys of everlasting life. Through the same Jesus Christ our Lord.
