Cross Cultural Awareness
Jerry Cordova grew up in Colorado and New Mexico and
is the third generation of a Forest Service family. His
grandfather worked for the CCC, his father worked on
fire patrol, and his family lived in unmanned guard
stations and lookouts during the late 60’s. As a Special
Emphasis Program Manager on the Ochoco National
Forest from 1993-98, he partnered with local community
organizations and focused on diversity and tolerance in
the workplace and community. He is active with the
Latino Community Association in Central Oregon.
HAPA means crossing
cultures. HAPA`EA is the local
chapter of the Asian Pacific
Islander Employee
Association which sponsors
the Storyteller Series. The
goal of HAPA`EA is to provide
an open forum that supports
learning about cultures in our
community and other places.
Jerry earned his M.S. degree in Fisheries/Watershed
Management from Oregon State University and B.A.
degree in Biology/Mathematics from the University of
Northern Colorado. He has worked for the U.S. Fish &
Wildlife Service in Bend since 1998.
