Term 1, Week 9: 23-29 March 2015
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
Nau mai, haere mai, greetings
Baptism & Welcoming into the
Catholic Church
This weekend is a big one!!!
We have the Cricket World Cup Final between New Zealand
and Australia. I include the Friday morning staff prayer,
which draws our attention to the game:
God let us play well but fairly.
Let competition make us strong but never hostile.
If we know victory, grant us happiness.
If we are denied keep us from envy.
See us not when we are cheered,
but when we bend to help our opponents up.
Seal it in our hearts that everyone who takes the field becomes our brother
and sister.
Remind us that sports are games and
the opposition are people too.
Teach us something that will matter once the game is over and if through
the game we can set an example let it be a good one. Amen
Adapted by Jol Sparks
Bigger than the Cricket World Cup of course is the fact that
Sunday signals the start of Holy Week, the holiest time in the
Christian calendar.
It begins with Palm Sunday this weekend and culminates the
following Sunday with Easter.
While many of us look forward to the excitement of the
cricket game and other activities, Holy Week calls us to think
beyond our own interests and to consider the type of world
that Jesus Christ is offering to us; one built on love, peace
and compassion.
May we use the coming week to reflect on how we can help
bring Christ’s message to a reality in our sphere of the world.
Palm Sunday
Prayer
nd
On Sunday, 22 March two of our middle school students
were welcomed into the Catholic Church during the Parish
Mass at St Mary, Star of the Sea. Georgia McKeague was
Baptised and Fushia Tibble, was received into the Church in
what was a very joyous occasion.
We pray blessings upon them as they now prepare for
Confirmation and First Holy Communion alongside a number
of students who are also undertaking the Sacramental
Programme.
Palm Sunday – 29 March
th
This Sunday, 29 March, is Palm
Sunday. Palm Sunday commemorates
the triumphal entrance of Jesus into
Jerusalem, when palm branches were
placed in His path, before His arrest on
Holy Thursday and His Crucifixion on
Good Friday. Great crowds of people
thronged the streets waving palm branches to welcome
Jesus. The people shouted "Hosanna" and laid their cloaks
and palm branches from the nearby trees in His path. Palm
Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week, the final week of
Lent, and the week in which we celebrate the mystery of our
salvation through Christ's Death and His Resurrection on
Easter Sunday.

$5.00 PER CAR – Anything you sell is yours! All Welcome
Jesus rode into Jerusalem not as a conquering king but in humility, the
Servant King, ready to complete the task for which he had walked this
world. Forgive us those times when we think too highly of ourselves and
remind us always that you ask from us lives dedicated to service, to you
and to our neighbours, wherever and whoever they might be. Enable us to
take off our cloaks of self-righteousness and lay them down at your feet.
‘Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I
said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord” – and you forgave the
guilt of my sin.’ - Psalm 32:5
