I also recommend using a pressing cloth when ironing. If your iron is too hot the ink will transfer to the hot iron and will need to be cleaned off. You can finger press Cuddle and it is easier to only press when working with cotton and Cuddle. If you are sewing Cuddle to Cuddle, you do not need to use an iron on the seam. Sewing with Cuddle: • Use a Walking Foot for all assembly if possible. Cuddle is very thick and slippery. The walking foot helps move the fabric through the machine evenly. • Pin the fabric pieces together every 2” to keep the fabrics from sliding while sewing. If one piece wants to curl up, put that piece on bottom when sewing. • Use a Stretch 90/14 needle and increase stitch length. • For more information go to: www.shannonfabrics.com/cuddle-tips-and-tricks-ezp-30.html Block Assembly Directions 1) Place one 6 ½” Fabric D square on the top left corner of the 12 ½” Fabric A square, right sides together (Fig. 1). Sew across the diagonal of the smaller square from the upper right corner to the lower left corner (Fig. 1). Flip open the triangle formed and press (Fig. 2). Trim away the excess fabric from behind the triangle, ¼” away from the sewn seam. 2) Follow Fig. 3 for the seam direction to add a 6 ½” Fabric D square to each of the remaining corners of the 12 ½” Fabric A square to make the center block (Fig. 4). Sew across the diagonal of the square from the upper right corner to the lower left corner (Fig. 5). Flip open the triangle formed and press (Fig. 6). Trim away the excess fabric from behind the triangle leaving a ¼” seam allowance. Sew across the diagonal of the square from the upper left corner to the lower right corner (Fig. 7). Flip open the triangle formed and press. Trim away the excess from behind the triangle, leaving a ¼” seam allowance. This completes one C/D/C unit (Fig. 8). Fig. 7 5) Repeat steps 3-4 to make four C/D/C units total. Sew the strips to the top and bottom of the center block to make the Center square (Fig. 9). 7) Sew one 3 ½” x 24 ½” Fabric E strip to each side of the center block. Sew one 3 ½” x 30 ½” Fabric E strip to the top and bottom of the center block (Fig. 10). E E E Fig. 9 E Fig. 10 8) Place one 5 ⅞” Fabric D square on top of one 5 7/8” Fabric C square, right sides together. Draw a line across the diagonal of the top square (Fig. 11). Sew ¼” away from each side of the drawn diagonal line (Fig. 11). Cut the two squares apart on the drawn diagonal line (Fig. 12) to make two D/C units. Trim the units to measure 5 ½” square. Repeat to make thirty-two D/C units total (Fig. 13). 9) Sew four D/C units together to make one pinwheel block (Fig. 14). Repeat to make eight pinwheel blocks. 10) Repeat steps 1-2 using eight 10 ½” Fabric A squares and thirty-two 5 ½” Fabric D squares to make eight Square-in-a-Square blocks total (Fig. 15). Repeat to make a second side border. Sew strips to each side of the center block. 12) Sew three pinwheel blocks and two Square-in-a-Square blocks together to make the top border. Repeat to make the bottom border. Sew the borders to the center block. 13) Sew one 3 ½” x 50 ½” Fabric E strip to each side of the quilt top. Sew one 3 ½” x 56 ½” Fabric E strip to the top and bottom of the quilt top. 14) Sew one 6 ½” x 68 ½” Fabric B strip to each side of the quilt top. Sew one 6 ½” x 56 ½” Fabric B strip to the top and bottom of the quilt top. 15) Layer and quilt as desired. 16) Sew the five 2 ¼” x WOF Fabric C strips together, end-to-end, with 45° seams to make the binding. 17) Align the binding strip raw edges (lengthwise) with the front of the quilt top, right sides together. Use a ½” seam allowance to sew the binding strip to the quilt on all four sides. 18) Fold the binding strip to the back side of the quilt. Fold under the binding raw edge ¼” as you sew the binding in place, along the back of the quilt. You can either hand sew the binding in place or use a zig-zag stitch with thread that matches the binding color, to stitch the binding in place.
