CAPITAL COMMUNITY COLLEGE HOSTED HISTORY DAY IN CONNECTICUT Hartford, CT - On Saturday, March 28, over 250 students representing the communities of Bristol, Hartford, East Granby and East Windsor presented their History Day projects to judges at the Hartford Regional History Day in Connecticut Contest. The contest took place at Capital Community College, with the college’s president, Dr. Wilfredo Nieves, assisting with the Awards Ceremony. Students in grades 6-12 spent months researching a history topic of their choice related to this year’s theme of Leadership and Legacy in History. Participants were given the choice to present their projects within one of the five History Day categories, including exhibits, documentaries, websites, papers and performances. Students in grades 6-8 competed within the Junior Division and students in grades 9-12 competed within the Senior Division. Students who placed in the top three in their respective categories and divisions are invited to compete in the State History Day Contest, which will take place on May 9, 2015 at Central Connecticut State University in New Britain. From there, state winners will be invited to represent Connecticut at the National History Day Contest at the University of Maryland in June. Hartford is one of the six cities in Connecticut History Day in Connecticut Regional Contests is held in. The others are Manchester, Torrington, New Haven, Fairfield and Mansfield. The following schools were represented at the Hartford Regional Contest: Bulkeley High School, Hartford Capital Preparatory Magnet, Hartford Classical Magnet School, Hartford East Granby Middle School, East Granby East Windsor Middle School, East Windsor Renzulli Academy, Hartford History Day in Connecticut is an affiliate program of the renowned academic program, National History Day (NHD).
