Marketing & Communications Tuesday, April 7th Michelle Mar Resident Journal & Marketing Coordinator Boulder Associates Architects What is your education background? University of California, Irvine—Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, Bachelor of Arts in Political Science What do you do at your current job? I work for an architectural firm that specializes exclusively in healthcare design. As a Resident Journalist, my role is to highlight and share the stories behind the amazing projects my colleagues work on every day. From writing about a community clinic our firm designed to provide first class healthcare to undeserved families in Bakersfield, to sharing the story behind the children’s hospital our team is designing for orphans in Zambia, I promote these projects across multiple communications channels. In addition, as a Marketing Coordinator, I write content for external and internal communications, coordinate the development of proposals, manage my firms social media sites, and create printed & digital marketing materials. What is your favorite thing about your job? I enjoy being around dedicated staff who have a strong passion for designing comforting spaces that support patients and their families. Having the opportunity to write about my colleagues, their projects, and the people their projects help is an honor and a privilege. A word of advice: My advice for current students is to get as much writing experience as possible (whether through an internship with a company or writing an article for the school newspaper) and to be proficient in Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign, and other creative tools. These skills will make you a more marketable (haha, see what I did there?) and valuable employee in this field. Kofi Frimpong CEO BrandSlip What is your education background? Bachelor’s from Princeton University What do you do at your current job? I am the founder of BrandSlip.com. What is your favorite thing about your job? Meeting incredible people at different companies every day. A word of advice: Jump in the fire. Don’t try to always learn about something before pursuing it. Sometimes the best way to learn is to jump in and start first like starting your own business.
