Focus On The CALD Program
Hello and welcome to our ‘Autumn into Winter’ edi on. With a few
cool mornings heralding the distant murmur of Winter coming, it may
be me to pack away the speedos and wash the trusty woolen jumper! The team here at Stafford have supported a large number of
carers to date in 2015, fascina ng people with a variety of support
needs. One of the key challenges for Carers Queensland has always
been that we support carers across all facets of our community sector
– in Mental Health, Disability, Aged Care, Child and Youth services
and Guardianship & Administra on, to name a few! We are currently
tracking unprecedented change across our sector in order to provide
quality informa on and support to carers who are interac ng with
those systems.
We would like to encourage carers throughout our Brisbane North
catchment to stay connected with us through what might be described as massive reform around the way in which vulnerable members of our community receive supports. Not least of which will be a
Na onal Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) which we will see rolling
out in the very near future in Queensland. For those not aware, NDIS
readiness workshops are currently being delivered across the state
(see page 2). Happy reading, have a great Autumn, and remember,
‘Scien a poten a est’ - knowledge is power (Francis Bacon).

Carer’s Corner
We know carers are a talented bunch, so if you
would like to submit a photo, poem, story, recipe or quote for ‘Carer’s Corner’ please email

The Carer.
Without my spoken word
You understand my fears
And when I hurt
You brushed away my tears.
No secrets have I from you
You see what is not there
And yet—
When I need you not to no ce
You do not see But understand my despair
No books can really teach us
Which cap to wear that fits
My happiness and security
Rely on all these gi s
Have you been chosen or have I
Who taught who the most—
And why?
These ques ons will always be
These ques ons keep our spirit
free.
Ac vity Review
We kicked off the year with a brilliant Open Day
here at the Stafford Office! It gave Adam another
opportunity to bust out his BBQ and show off his
cooking skills! Carers and Service Providers joined
us for a tour of the office and a breakfast burger.
I am an au sm parent.
We have good days, bad
days & days we try to
forget. I watch my child
struggle on a daily basis.
I watch him try to work
out the world around
him.
It hurts.
I hate seeing him struggle so much.
It may HURT but I am
also PROUD.
PROUD of the fact that
he never gives up. No
maBer how hard his
struggles. Yet he keeps
on figh ng.
No parent could ask for
anything more than
that.

Answer for Brain Teaser:
The man and the chicken cross
the river, (the fox and corn are
safe together), he leaves the
chicken on the other side and
goes back across. The man then
takes the fox across the river,
and since he can’t leave the fox
and chicken together, he brings
the chicken back. Again, since
the chicken and corn can’t be
le> together, he leaves the
chicken and he takes the corn
across and leaves it with the
fox. He then returns to pick up
the chicken and heads across
the river one last me.
