With all six senior lax-men on their senior trip, the future of CAL lacrosse is exactly what we witnessed as a lean, but talented varsity lacrosse squad beat a very physical Eastern team 13-11. If
you were one of the lucky fans who chose to begin your weekend watching a great lacrosse game you saw
major contributions to the victory by freshmen, sophomores and juniors alike.
Eastern came out and scored two quick goals. The Centurions took the Eagles’ punch and started punching
back, pulling even at 2 goals apiece by the end of the first quarter. On the strength of 10 assists for the game,
CAL poured in 4 goals in the second quarter and 5 in the third quarter to pull away from the visitors… finishing with 2 more goals in the final period.
Along with a great defensive contribution by the midfielders, our “long pole” defensemen, Larkin Mann,
Tristan Scull, Alex Tran, Jake Paulson and Colton Blacketer held Eastern to only 23 shots on goal. Jacob
Spencer came up big in the net racking up 12 saves.
Junior attackman Holton Durenberger posted a gargantuan effort with 4 goals and 4 assists. Freshman midfielder Caleb Anderson also found the net 4 times and sophomore attackman Chandler Holloway scored
twice. Among other midfielders, junior David Franke had 1 goal and 2 assists for his own “hat trick”. Junior
Jack Gilbert and sophomore Cade Sparrow also beat the Eagles’ goalie for 1 goal each to round out the
team’s scoring. Freshmen Garrett Goldman and Jackson Donovan contributed to the team’s total with 2 assists each.
This week will be jam packed for our Centurion lacrosse teams with three games played in five days. Tuesday Lexington Bryan Station comes to CAL. Wednesday the team makes the short trip to Kentucky Country
Day in another district match up. Finally, the Oldham County Colonels pull in to 700 S. English Station
Road for another home game.
All three games are convenient for Centurions fans to make a big showing. Let’s add to the great numbers
that have been coming out to lift up these hard working warriors and let’s show Louisville and the state that
Christian Academy fans are serious about standing with our lacrosse teams!

The girls team placed 6th in the 16-team invitational, with the
boys finishing 8th. Leading the way for the girls, was a runnerup performance by the 4x400 relay team. Jessica Bozell got the foursome
off to a strong start, then handed off to Clara Lynch who seized the
lead. Following Clara, Julianna Sabbak set up Madalyn O'Dea's scorching kick - racing past the squad from South Oldham in the last 10 meters
to grab silver. Each of the four
also scored in multiple other individual events to add to the
team effort. Maya Wright also placed in 3 events, with her best
mark coming in the 100 - her 4th place in the 100 in a near PR
13.59. The boys team performance was boosted by the hurdling of
Wes Wegert and John Bozell, who went 2-3 in the 110 hurdles and
7-8 in the 300 hurdles. Freshman Steven Ott ripped through 2 significant distance barriers - breaking 5 minutes in the 1600 and 11
minutes in the 3200. Sprinter Cal Lewellyn also broke a barrier going under 12 seconds in the 100 for the first time.

He scored two outs later when Dylan Sexton reached on an error. Sexton scored when Luke Price doubled into right centerfield,

Paul Haupt doubled to left field, scoring Carlisle with McIntire stopping at third. Dylan Sexton walked to load the bases and

CAL vs. EASTERN
Friday, April 17, 2015
April 17th, Tuesday afternoon, CAL JV LAX played Eastern JV at CAL. The conditions of the field were
good with overcast skies and the temperature 80 degrees.
The ball was passed amongst the players with goalie Andrew Barbour blocking many attempts to score by
the other team. Our team scored when Garrett Goldman (#2) passed to Jackson Donovan (#19) to make the
first score! At halftime the score was 5-0 with final being 9-4 CAL wins!!
Furthermore, praise God that Cameron Roberts (#34) arm has healed and is back to playing with his
team!
Rain…Rain GO AWAY! Well it’s been a slow couple of weeks for the 8th grade team with more rain outs
than games played. Before Spring Break the boys had a great comeback win against Crosby. Greg Lile came
in and delivered two and a third scoreless innings that kept the team in the game. Jacob Dupps, Matthew Derridinger, Case Brown and Cole Johnson had big time hits in the late in the game that put the Centurions on
top for the win. During Spring Break the boys that were in town got the opportunity to play with the freshmen team in the Bullitt East Tournament and gained valuable experience at the high school level. We were
scheduled for three games last week but due to the rain we only got one game in on Thursday night against
Barrett. The team fell behind early in the ballgame but battled back and took the game over to only trail by 2
runs before time ran out. This was the first loss of the season and the team is looking forward to a rematch
with the Barrett team.
No games are scheduled this week due to the 8th grade trip to DC. We will get back on the field on Saturday
April 25th at 9am against JCTMS. The game will be played at J-Town Skyview Park on field #1. Hope to see
you at the ballpark!

With Mother Nature winning for much of the last few weeks,
here’s a brief recap on the 7/8 boys lacrosse team. On Saturday,
March 28 CAL hosted the Knights from St. Patrick and St. Alberts. A traditional grudge match, this year’s contest was no different with the Knights
topping both the CAL Red and Blue teams 3 – 5 and 2 – 5.
On 3/30 they returned to action at
CAL facing the Crusaders who are a
culmination of players from several
parishes. With the loss to the Knights still fresh on their minds, the
Centurion Red team came out blazing and quickly took the lead which
they never gave up for a convincing 13 – 2 victory! Coach Sutherland was particularly pleased with the balanced scoring from several
middies and attacks. Players scoring multiple goals included Jacob
Rayome, Kaden Weiter, Braden Haffling and Jacob Sutherland while
Peyton Wheeler, Luke Purvis and Harrison Zimmerer each added a
goal. Cade Christensen took up the ground balls. Charlie Higgason
had just 2 saves for the game but that’s only because of the
tremendous defense of veteran players Barret Gray, Luke
Sunderland and Evan Burns along with David McKinley and
Cameron Taylor simply didn’t allow the Crusaders to take
many shots on goal! Great effort on both ends of the
field. In the Blue game, Noah Sutherland and Parker Clements had multiple goals while Carson Moylan added a single
as well. Cameron Taylor bagged 4 ground balls while Matt
Durenberger, Charlie Tran, Landon Snyder and newcomer,
Daniel Smith each added to the tally. Again to victory for
CAL with a win of 6-1!
With foul weather and spring break created a nearly 2 week
gap in play, the Centurions returned to action on 4/16 hosting the Dragons of South Oldham in a Red game
and the Barret Hilltoppers for a Blue game. In the Red
game the guys faced a talented South Oldham team, but
with multiple goals coming once again from Rayome,
Weiter and Haffling, the Centurions proved to be too
much to handle taking home the victory in an 11 – 8 decision. Go CAL!! The Blue team played the Hilltoppers and quickly fell behind to a couple of Hilltopper
goals but patience and perseverance saw CAL bridge the
gap over the course of the game. Twins Jacob and Noah
Sutherland along with Parker Clements and Carson Moylan each had 2 goals but unfortunately they came up
short losing 9 – 8. Marcos Welch and Cameron Taylor
had several ground balls while goalie Carter Adams had
8 saves in the cage.
Come out and watch the Blue team play a double header on Monday, April 20th at Westport Middle
School. Game times are 5:30 and 6:45, Home game Thursday April 23rd against Holy Spirit at 5:30 and Saturday April 25th home game against KCD at noon. GO CAL!
