UNITED METHODIST CHURCH
Thanks for the Memories!
We are called to be an
outward facing circle of
people; seeking, reaching and
welcoming others to join us in
serving Jesus Christ.
August 14th, 2002. I was 23 years old my first day on staff at CUMC as the
Director of Student Ministries. In the just-shy of 13 years that followed, I
found myself: getting married to my beautiful wife Tai; having 3 kids who are
now 4, 2, and 7 months; receiving my Master of Divinity; leading 19 different
mission trips including one with 60+ middle schoolers to New York City and
6 internationally; witness a handful of students go into full-time ministry;
having various ministry roles within the life of CUMC as Director of Young
Adult Ministries, Associate Pastor of Family Ministries, pastor of the Sunrise
Campus for nearly 5 years, and effective July 1st, be appointed as the lead
pastor of a new church start, Gateway Community Church.

I have had the opportunity to officiate at the weddings of young adults who were with me on day
one and have even baptized a few of their babies. One thing is for certain, I have certainly gotten
older. My hope is that I have also grown slightly more mature (debatable perhaps), a little wiser, and
have gained a deeper understanding of what it means to love with God’s grace. In large part, this is
thanks to you as my church family for over the past decade. Your willingness to put up with me over
the years, empower me to try new things, to grow as a pastor and follower of Jesus, and develop
as a leader has made the ministry I am a part of today that much more effective. I am truly grateful
for the countless opportunities I have been given, especially by Senior Pastors Dr. Mac Hamon and
Dr. Frank Beard.
It is exciting to look back over the past 13 years and see the things God has done and humbling
to have been a part of some of it. It gives me great hope for the future of both of our churches,
knowing that God is still doing things in us and through us. May we move forward into this future,
being led by his Spirit, striving to know him and make him known.

And now glory be to God who by his mighty power at work within us is able to do far more than
we could ever dare to ask or dream of; infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, or
hopes. To this God be glory in our lives and in the Church forever. Amen.

Let’s Show Some Love and Appreciation!
On July 1, 2015 Pastor Matt will become the Lead Pastor of Gateway Community
Church (formerly our Sunrise Campus). The new congregation will be a United
Methodist Church independent of Castleton. We are excited to see the outstanding
gifts and graces of Pastor Matt being utilized in the growth and development of
this congregation. The church is currently averaging around 120 adults in worship
and over thirty children each week. The Leadership Team invites you to share your
appreciation for Pastor Matt’s ministry to Castleton by sharing in a special “love” contribution. Our
gift of love will be presented to Pastor Matt on June 28th at the Sunrise Worship Celebration. Please
use the envelopes that are provided for this appreciation. Any checks should be made payable to
Castleton UMC and labeled “Pastor Matt’s Appreciation.” Gifts will be received until June 22nd. Let’s
show Pastor Matt some Castleton love and appreciation as we say “thanks” for a job well done.
