Cheese Monger, Social Media Liaison & Assistant Cheesemaker

Cato Corner Farm, a family-owned dairy farm making award-winning cheeses, is seeking a
personable, motivated individual to help make and sell cheese. Primary responsibilities include:




Sell cheese in our busy on-farm shop and at occasional farmers’ markets or events.
Educate customers about our farm and our cheese. Explain sustainable dairying, raising
animals humanely, and making and caring for a variety of cheeses. Represent our
products and our philosophy to customers.
Assist with cheese making, clean up, and caring for cheese.
Update social media, including Facebook, Twitter, and email newsletter. Assist with
various other marketing projects as needed.
In June 2015, cheese monger and assistant cheese maker Kristin will be moving out west. We
are looking for someone to fill her shoes, selling cheese in the farm shop, maintaining our social
media presence, and helping in the cheese room and cave. This is a fabulous opportunity for a
charismatic, outgoing individual to learn about making and selling farmstead cheese!
This is a full time (4½ - 5 days per week) position, Wednesday through Sunday. This includes
selling cheese on both Saturdays and Sundays as well as three additional days of cheese work.
Training begins in late May.
Starting Salary: $12.50/hour. Vacation and sick pay are available to long-term employees.
Experience and Skills
Applicants should be enthusiastic, intelligent and articulate with excellent people skills.
Knowledge of our cheese or of cheesemaking/dairying is not necessary, but you should enjoy
cheese and be committed to local, sustainable food. Customer service is paramount; you must be
able to maintain professionalism and poise while working efficiently under pressure. You will
be on your feet all day, and must be able to lift 40 lbs repeatedly.
Applicants should have some retail experience or other relevant work directly with people. You
should be comfortable working with social media like Facebook, Twitter and MailChimp. You
should be a good driver and have a car capable of transporting equipment to occasional events.
Good basic math skills are useful!
