APRIL 2013
This April’s handpicked new products contains a whole
range of textiles that reflect the heart of IKEA as well
as plenty of goodies for all across the home.
Many of our designers have been inspired by the past
to create decoration and furniture pieces that are
modern with a nod to the classics like: Victorian meets
Tiki inspired VANADIN lamps and blown-up buttons of
GRÄDDIG wall decorations.
Woodland creatures are making an appearance this
season. The ÄNGSSPIRA quilt cover, MÖBORG rug and
ÄLGÖRT fabric all feature elk, while some feathered
friends make an appearance on GULÖRT cushions. The
bold colours and playful patterns of this varied textile
collection capture the essence of modern Swedishness.

Take a little trip
Swedish inspired textiles
This spring, stroll through an imaginative Swedish wooded wonderland in a new
modern textile collection that’s got a whimsical air and psychedelic undertones.
Fabrics, bedding, rugs and cushions depict animals, nature and geometric patterns.
The elk, an animal revered in Sweden, makes an appearance in several motifs and
provides inspiration for much of the collection. Eclectic and dramatic, the colour palette
uses lots of orange, yellow and pink.
ÄNGSSPIRA bedding is made from 100% cotton and has a 250-thread count. The
ÄNGSSPIRA quilt cover goes for maximum impact with three large, graphic elk
sporting bold red, yellow and black coloured antlers. Combined with the ÄNGSSPIRA
pillowcase and its abstract antler pattern in white and bright yellow, it’s impossible to
ignore.
ÄLGÖRT fabric, made from 100% cotton, with its neon nature motif captures the
essence of modernity. The combination of grey elk dotted among the hot pink and
neon orange trees is playful, yet sophisticated.
MÖBORG rug plays with colour and shape creating a background for the elk who
appears to have wandered into this abstract scene and is right at home. MÖBORG rug
is woven in a thick, low pile for softness and durability.

A no-maintenance pet
KLÄDSAM mobile bird
Whimsical KLÄDSAM mobile is sculptural art that
doesn’t take itself too seriously. It’s a fun bit of kitsch
cool that’ll add movement and charm to any space.
KLÄDSAM mobile is made from painted steel and at
35cm it looks good hanging solo or with a few grouped
together for a more dramatic effect. Its stylised,
spherical shape creates contrast with a striking yellow
bird silhouette against the black bars.
Designer David Wahl was inspired by the idea of having
a bird at home, but not locked up. “A pretend bird in
a cage, on the other hand, is something I would really
like to have at home, which is what gave me the idea
for the KLÄDSAM mobile,” he says. “The mobile spins
slowly when you hang it up to create movement in the
room — and is a beautiful and playful eye-catcher.”

GRÄDDIG wall decoration
Plates as decorations are standard procedure in home
decor. But plate-sized giant buttons as wall decorations?
Now we’re talking about something new —

The power to shape time, in a flat pack
SMYCKE wall clock
Those who say, “Nothing is perfect” haven’t met the SMYCKE wall clock. Found in
beehives, flowers, snowflakes and turtle shells, the hexagon is nature’s perfect shape.
The sides and angles of a hexagon are all the same, which means they can be pieced
together without gaps and be arranged in infinite patterns – also known as a tessellation.
SMYCKE wall clock uses these hexagonal qualities to its advantage, allowing you to shape
time any way you like with its six-sided, plastic pieces. Each package comes with a fixed
centre made up of four white and three grey pieces. Add to that five white, eight black, six
grey and three red, yellow and green pieces and you have a recipe for a 100% unique wall

KNAPPER standing mirror

Freestanding, full-length mirrors are good at enlarging
and lightening up spaces while making a statement.
KNAPPER standing mirror does double duty with its
behind the mirror clothes rack and storage hooks that
make space for planning and showing off outfits and
accessories.
KNAPPER standing mirror is 160cm tall and made of
powder-coated steel and glass. With its five hooks and
T-shaped clothes rack built-in behind the mirror, there’s
room to keep things off the floor and organised instead.
Designers David Wahl and Nicolas Cortolezzis combined
the practicality of a freestanding mirror with hidden
functionality. “When we designed KNAPPER, we made
the back wider for two reasons; to give room for more
clothes, and also for stability,” they say. “But that’s not
what you see when you look at yourself in the mirror.”

The cool, graphic styling by designer Anne Jochum
takes a modern approach to bringing nature indoors.
Playing with shadow and light, the leaf motif of ELSABO
decoration stickers, in calming shades of green, seems

Victorian meets Tiki
VANADIN lamps
In the hands of artists, glass is a remarkable, limitless medium. In designer Inma Bermudez’s
hands, the result is the eye-catching, candy-like VANADIN lamp series, which pays homage to
the Victorians with a playful hint of Polynesian Tiki.
VANADIN lamps are made from mouth blown glass with the look of traditional, expensive cut
glass. A pendant lamp and ceiling/wall lamp, both in white frosted glass, add ornate charm to
general lighting. To set a special mood, the table lamp in white, black or hot pink will do the
job nicely.

says designer Wiebke Braasch. “I designed SMÅGLI and
BÖRJA based on what I learned from visiting the homes of

protectors to hold it steady. “The baby bath has round,
gentle shapes that encircle the baby,” says designer Tina
Christensen. “And it’s formed to make it easy for you to fill

Flowers and light
KNIVIG wall sconce/vase
It’s a routine as old as time; in the cold, dark months
we bring out the candles and when it turns warm and
bright we embrace everything floral. With KNIVIG,
designer Monika Mulder understands this and surprises
us with a twist on the familiar wall sconce.
KNIVIG wall sconce can be used as a tealight holder,
candlestick or vase to create different atmospheres
depending on the season or simply your mood. Use
one or two for a simple accent or a bevy to create a
dramatic, art installation effect. KNIVIG is white metal
with a glass candle holder/vase, which can is easily be
removed for cleaning.
Designer Monika Mulder’s idea was to make a wall
sconce that is also a vase for small flowers. “I started
with the wall plate which brings to mind traditional
Scandinavian mirror wall sconces,” she says. “The wall
plate joins with an arm that holds a glass tube, so
it looks as if the candle or flower is part of a branch
coming out of the wall. KNIVIG wall sconce has an
organic shape that makes it attractive if you use one
alone – and incredibly impressive if you use several wall
sconces in a row.”
