Stitch Diva Studios Modern Knit and Crochet
Superchunk Instant Crocheted Cowl
Design by Jennifer Hansen
Instant Gratification.
Crochet 2 rounds in less time than it takes to watch a show on TV! It’s really fun to crochet with super huge
yarn and use a super huge hook to do it!
The result is a super-cozy cowl that exudes some serious super-chunky style. Keep off the chill this season
in a big way.

PROJECT NOTES
YARN
Note on Yarn Substitution: The featured yarn in this
pattern, Feza 3N, is SUPER bulky. It’s HUGE. If you
are looking for substitutes, you could always hold a
ton of stash yarn strands together to get the same
gauge. You could also tear an old sweatshirt up into
strips and knit with those. You could even take roving
and knit directly with that. It’s fun to experiment with
unconventional materials when working this big.

Construction Overview: What could be simpler?
Create your starting chain, crochet 2 short rounds
then tie off!
Crochet Hook: We used the Jenkins Woodworking
Size V Handcrafted Maple Crochet Hook to create this
cowl. This huge hook is just the ticket for bulky projects that deliver instant gratification.

INSTRUCTIONS
Leaving an 8” starting tail, chain 21.
Round 1: Starting in the 3rd ch from the hook, double crochet in the back hump of each chain
across, slip stitch to the top of the chain-3 created at the start of the round. Do not turn - 18 sts
Round 2: Chain 3 (counts as first double crochet), double crochet in the back loop of the first double
crochet and in the back loop of each double crochet around. Slip stitch to top of chain-3. Cut yarn
leaving an 8” tail - 18 sts
Use starting and ending tails to weave stitches at the start/end of rounds together, then weave in
ends. This yarn is too big for a tapestry needle! Weave in ends with your fingers, keeping wrong side
facing and splitting the yarn as you weave the tail through to ensure that the tail remains secure.
