NORTHEAST VALLEY HEALTH CORPORATION Human Resources Memorandum __________________________________________________________________________ The Northeast Valley Health Corporation is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of: Staff Dentist 1 Regular Part-Time Position – 50% Time – San Fernando High School Teen Health Center – Work schedule: TBD, work hours may include evenings and Saturdays Definition: The Dentist provides the following dental services for adult and children; cleaning, scaling, extractions, fillings and anterior root canals and other dentistry services according to medical staff practice guidelines. Demonstrates good judgment when a dental problem is beyond the scope of services provided in the clinic. Reports to: Dental Director/Chief Medical Officer Clinic Administrator Qualifications: 1. Graduation from an American Dental Association (ADA) approved dental school. 2. Current valid California License as a dentist and DEA number. 3. One or more years practice of general dentistry in a community clinic setting. 4. Preferably bilingual English/Spanish. 5. Must demonstrate through written and/or oral testing, the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served and has knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span. He or she is able to identify and categorize each patient’s age specific grouping of needs, such as those for infant, adolescent, adult or geriatric patients. Provides close supervision and is responsible for the activities of the dental support staff including volunteer dentists. 2. Develops and maintains a list of referrals for procedures beyond the scope of services. 3. Forwards all managed care referrals to the appropriate NEVHC referral staff. 4. Complies with the requirements of Dental Plan Agreements for providing dental services to Dental Plan Enrollees. 5. Participates in the training and continuing education of professional health personnel employed at the health center. 6. Participates and attends staff meetings. 7. Utilizes Dental Electronic Record and Medical Electronic Record to provide patient care. (e.g. treatment planning, writing progressive notes, prescribing medications) 8. Functions on a rotational basis as the dentist on-call when the health center is closed. 9. Participates in and complies with all NEVHC mandatory trainings including the following: a. Infection Control Program b. Environment of Care Management Plans and Emergency Management Program; and participates in emergency response activities as directed c. Corporate Compliance Program d. Code of Conduct e. Risk Management & Compliance 10. Participates in hazardous waste and infection control assignments as required which may include being designated as an emergency responder to a hazardous substance release or spill; performing infection control data collection, evaluation, reporting and follow-up in accordance with clinical health services policy and procedures. 11. It is the responsibility of every employee to report any patient safety concern to their immediate supervisor without fear of reprisal. NEVHC policy of non-retaliation protects employees who report patient safety concerns. Quality Improvement 1. Participates in a system of peer review which follows the policies and procedures of the NEVHC Quality Improvement Committee. 2. Consistently follows Universal Precautions. 3. Observes all established safety policies and procedures including proper shielding techniques. Dental Records 1. Maintains current complete dental records (Dental Electronic Record System- e.g. Dentrix). 2. Coordinates integration of system of recordkeeping consistent with NEVHC systems. 3. Maintains patient confidentiality. Supplies 1. Maintains current knowledge of new products available that may be appropriate for use in the dental clinic to increase quality of care.
