DR. SEUSS COMES
TO THE 'FUN SHIPS'
GERRY’S MESSAGE
In the fall we also launched a completely
new national advertising campaign which
highlights the unforgettable vacation moments
experienced by our guests, as captured
through their own lenses. We collected more
than 30,000 pieces of ‘cruiser generated
content’ in the form of photos and videos via
social media. We felt there is no one better to
tell the story of what a Carnival cruise is like
than our own guests and some of the content
they provided is featured in the campaign
which is currently running on network TV, along
with radio, digital and direct mail.
Over the past several months we have
launched a number of exciting initiatives that
have generated a lot of positive attention for
our brand. Additionally, we’ve seen strong
progress in improved consumer perception of
Carnival as well as guest ratings with respect
to our product and service. These factors have
set us on an excellent course as we head into
2014. I am very enthused and encouraged by
the positive momentum we have built in the
last six months.
In fact, in January we achieved an all-time
record high for the most reservations received
in a single month. During that period we booked
more than 565,000 guests which was 17
percent higher than the same one-month period
a year ago. Traffic to our web site also reached
an all-time high in January at 13 million visits.
On the innovations front, we began this fall
with the launch of a new and unprecedented
vacation guarantee. Called the Great Vacation
Guarantee, it is the only program of its kind in
the travel industry and allows guests to end
their voyage early and receive a 110 percent
refund plus complimentary transportation
home, along with a $100 shipboard credit
for a future cruise, should they be dissatisfied
with their cruise for any reason. Guests must
provide notification of their desire to use the
guarantee within the first 24 hours of the cruise.
As anticipated, only a handful of people have
used the guarantee since we launched it in
September. However, the message it sends
to consumers is extremely important: we are
so confident in our product and in our ability to
provide a great vacation that we are willing to
offer a simple and hassle-free means to receive
a refund if you are unsatisfied for any reason.
Then, in December, we announced American
TABLE and American FEAST. These are new
dinner concepts for our main dining rooms and
they represent an upgraded dining experience
and increased investment in our main dining
room offerings.
American TABLE, offered on Cruise Casual
nights, is designed to evoke a modern
restaurant experience with an emphasis on
exceptional American cuisine featuring a mix
of familiar regional, fresh and contemporary
dishes. Modern table décor and place settings
are complemented by new menus and a new
serving style.
American FEAST is offered on Cruise Elegant
nights and has been designed to create the
feel of an elegant, elaborate special occasion
celebrated by all guests in the restaurant
with courses served table-side in grand style
befitting the occasion. Currently, the program
has been implemented on Carnival Glory and
Liberty with roll-out to the Imagination and
Inspiration in February. Guest feedback will
be gauged and incorporated based on these
initial ships with a full fleetwide rollout to occur
throughout 2014 and 2015.
Also in December we announced Seuss at
Sea, a fun and exciting new partnership with
Dr. Seuss Enterprises which encompasses
a variety of onboard youth, family, dining
and entertainment experiences featuring the
amazing world of Dr. Seuss.
Among the program elements are The Green
Eggs and Ham Breakfast with the Cat in the
Hat and Friends featuring Dr. Seuss characters
who will interact with the guests, a fleetwide
selection of classic Dr. Seuss books, toys
and activities, special showings of Dr. Seuss
movies on the Seaside Theater screens and,
on Carnival Freedom and Vista, a Dr. Seuss
Bookville facility – a unique and dedicated
Seuss-themed play space featuring iconic
décor, colors, shapes and furniture inspired by
the world of Dr. Seuss.
Roll-out of the Seuss at Sea program will
begin on Carnival Splendor in February with
implementation across the full fleet by 2015.
Finally, last month we held an event in New
York City to announce some very exciting
upgrades to our live music offerings. The
first layer involves enhancements to our
shipboard house bands which will now feature
both male and female lead singers, a more
choreographed, themed and diverse set list,
and increased interaction with guests. Nine
Carnival ships currently feature the new bands,
with implementation across the full fleet over
the course of this year.
The second layer is the Carnival LIVE Concert
Series which offers our guests the opportunity
to enjoy an exclusive onboard performance by
a diverse roster of popular music artists while
ships are docked at select ports of call.
There are 49 performance dates in 2014 with
artists such as Chicago, Daughtry, Gavin
DeGraw, Jennifer Hudson, Jewel, Lady
Antebellum, Martina McBride, REO Speedwagon
and STYX, plus others. The concerts will take
place in the ships’ main show lounges while the
vessels are docked in Nassau, Cozumel and
Catalina Island. Jennifer Hudson performed
at the launch event and helped us kick off the
program with an exhilarating show that had the
audience on its feet.
Additionally, we are continuing to roll out Fun
Ship 2.0 on more ships with Carnival Legend,
Carnival Freedom and Carnival Pride among
those in line to receive enhancements this year.
All of these new initiatives have generated
tremendous buzz and attention and
should have a positive impact on the guest
experience, which ultimately helps feed
favorable word-of-mouth for our brand. They
have put us in a good position to start off 2014
on a high note and get back to the business of
talking about all the great attributes that make
Carnival such a superior vacation choice.
I would like to thank not only all of the people who
have worked to bring these new initiatives to life,
but everyone at Team Carnival who contributes
each and every day to delivering the world’s most
exceptional cruise vacation experience. We can
all feel good about the progress we have made
and the many new initiatives we have happening
at Carnival which are fueling a fresh and exciting
start to the new year.

SECOND PHASE OF CARNIVAL SERVICE VALUES BEING ROLLED OUT FLEETWIDE
Following the success of the
fleetwide Carnival Service
Values rollout, we are pleased to
announce the next voyage of our
Carnival Service Values journey,
designed to welcome back
returning team members
after vacation.
Building upon the initial fourhour program, Carnival has
partnered with Hasbro Inc. to
create a product unique for the
company and our service vision. Trivial Pursuit: Carnival Service Values Edition is our twist on the classic general
knowledge board game. In this updated “Fun Ship”-themed edition players will be reminded not only of the
service values but of all things Carnival – from our history to our ports of call to our newly branded spaces.
Much like the first voyage, this one-and-a-half hour refresher session combines fun and interactive activities to
remind team members about our culture of service while reinforcing the importance of delivering fun, memorable
vacations at a great value.
In addition, team members are welcomed back on board with personal greetings from April Norris, a guest who
shared her family’s heartwarming story in the first voyage, as well as President and CEO Gerry Cahill and several
sports celebrities.
This second Carnival Service Values voyage has already been tested on a few vessels and met with positive
feedback and enthusiasm from our shipboard team members. Fleetwide rollout is expected to be completed in
2014, so be sure to stay tuned for additional updates as we continue on this exciting journey.

WHO’S IN THE SPOTLIGHT
W
hat has been your impression of
Carnival since joining this year? I am
very excited to be a part of Carnival.
The pace is fast, and while it has its
ups and downs, it is really an amazing
organization, with some of the most
dedicated people I have ever met, both shipboard
and shoreside.
Mark Jackson
Vice President
Technical Operations
How does your Coast Guard background help you
in your position at Carnival? The Coast Guard works
closely with the cruise lines and it gave me some insight
into the industry. Additionally, my role in Technical
Operations mirrors the work I was doing in the Coast
Guard. In the Coast Guard I was responsible for a larger
fleet of smaller vessels, which helped me transition into
my new role more quickly.
Since you gravitate toward occupations surrounding
water, what drew you to the maritime industry? As a
boy, I learned to sail on the Hudson River in New York.
Growing up, I spent most of my weekends on boats, so
when it came time to choose what I wanted to do, it had
to be on or involving the sea.
W
hat has been your career path at Carnival?
I started on the Festivale in July 1985 as an
engine cadet where I met an influential chief
engineer who took me “under his wing” and
recommended me to be part of the start-up
team for Jubilee the following year – the
first of eight inaugural teams that I’m proud to be a part
of. I moved up through the ranks and was named chief
engineer on the Carnival Fantasy in 1990. Carnival
Breeze’s start-up was the most challenging but also the
most rewarding.
Antonio Colotti
Chief Engineer
Carnival Breeze
What is a typical day like for a chief engineer? My
day usually starts early for the arrival maneuvering in port,
as early as 5 or 6 a.m., then a short break for breakfast
and then time for administrative duties like meetings,
e-mails and phone calls. After a while, you really feel like
getting back to basics by heading down to the engine
room, among the familiar noises and smells where so
much happens every day and the activities never stop!
When I first started, the only contact for the chief engineer
with the outside world was the short visit to one port
agent to send and receive a few faxes to the main office
and a short phone call to say that everything was fine….
my, how things have changed! Lunch and dinner with the
other senior officers is my favorite part of the day.
What’s your favorite dish at Fat Jimmy's C-Side
BBQ? Juicy, mouth-watering ribs …. my passion.
What game would you be better at: Connect 4
Basketball or Simon Flash? I really like watching
Hasbro, The Game Show, but I’m more of a poker
player myself!
Java Blue Café or Shake Spot? Java Blue Café gotta have my joe!
You hold a master’s in naval architecture, so
describe your dream cruise ship in five words: Safe,
Reliable, Redundant, Luxurious and Fun!
What’s your favorite public space on the totally
transformed Carnival Sunshine? There are a number
of really cool new spaces and I have to say I love the
water slides, Serenity Pool, steakhouse, JiJi and Cucina,
but I seemed to gravitate to the Havana Bar with its Latin
music and cool drinks.
If you could meet any famous explorer, who would
you choose and why? Christopher Columbus. It took
outstanding leadership and bravery to undertake the trip,
and to keep the crew motivated into the unknown.
What’s your favorite smart phone app? Cut the
Rope, one of my all-time favorite games and a great way
to pass the time!
What do you like to do when you’re not working? I
like to spend quality time with my kids, play a round of
golf or two, and I love just about any outdoor sport.
What is the most exciting part of working on
Carnival’s newest ship? To look at the ecstatic
expressions on the faces of our guests when they
wander around our ship and help them discover all of this
ship’s wonderful qualities.
Are jump suits worn for comfort or convenience?
Both, they are practical and safe, they do not stick on the
body in a warm environment and they come off fast in an
emergency ….apparently they also look very sexy!
If you could hire anyone in the world, famous or
not, living or not, to work in the engine room, who
would you hire and why? It would be Steve Jobs….
can you imagine what an experience it would be to have
somebody like him on your team? Second would be
actress Charlize Theron….should I explain why?
What is your favorite port and where would you like
to visit? In the Caribbean, it has to be Antigua - simple
people, gorgeous nature and so many places to discover
and you never get bored. However, I really loved the
European destinations because of the beautiful historical
and cultural sites. In all these years with Carnival, I have
never been to Hawaii and Alaska, it must be an incredibly
beautiful immersion in natural paradises.
What do you like to do when you’re on leave from
the ship? I love spending time with my kids and working
around the house, taking care of trees and the garden,
but I miss the sea and I need to be close to it, to feel the
smell of salt in the air.

BEST WISHES
The retirement of Hotel Director Mark Hoffman – who is leaving
Carnival after 37 years of dedicated service -- was marked with
a number of events, both on board and ashore.
Mark’s retirement festivities included a playful “roast” at the
annual Senior Leadership conference held in Miami that

fun times they’ve had during his nearly four decades at Carnival.
There was also a special reception on board the Carnival
Fantasy where he was presented with a variety of gifts from
Captain Roberto Costi and members of the senior shipboard
management team.
These events were a wonderful tribute to Mark’s career, which
began in 1976, just four years after Carnival was founded when
the company’s fleet consisted of just two ships. During his 37
years at sea, Mark has witnessed incredible growth and change
within Carnival and the industry as a whole while serving literally
hundreds of thousands of guests and making countless friends
along the way.
Thanks, Mark, for the great memories and best of luck in
your retirement!
A FOND FAREWELL
Several hundred members of the Carnival family recently
gathered at the Miami headquarters to bid a fond farewell to
Richard Ames, senior vice president of corporate business
services for Carnival Corporation & plc who is retiring after 24
years of dedicated service to the company.

featured lots of photos of Richard and his family, followed
by messages from his co-workers wishing him a happy
retirement and remembering all the good times over the years.
Richard was also presented with a number of commemorative
gifts, including a free Seabourn cruise.
It was truly a great send-off and a terrific way to acknowledge
Richard’s immeasurable contributions to the Carnival
organization over the past two-plus decades.

New Seuss at Sea Program
to be rolled out fleetwide by 2015
Last month, during a fun-filled event aboard the Carnival Splendor in New York,
Carnival unveiled an exclusive partnership with Dr. Seuss Enterprises to bring the
beloved children’s brand and favorite characters to the “Fun Ship” fleet. Dubbed
Seuss at Sea, the program will offer exciting immersive onboard youth, family, dining and
entertainment experiences featuring the amazing world and words of Dr. Seuss.
The event on Carnival Splendor featured many of the unique elements of the Seuss
program, including a family-friendly Green Eggs & Ham Breakfast with the Cat in the
Hat & Friends featuring playful foods straight from Dr. Seuss’s imagination – green
eggs and ham, moose juice and goose juice, and other highly creative items. With
Carnival’s wait staff decked out in Dr. Seuss-inspired uniforms, popular Dr. Seuss
characters The Cat in the Hat, Thing One and Thing Two, and Sam joined guests at
their tables for fun interactions and photo opportunities.
Seuss at Sea will also include a selection of classic Dr. Seuss books, toys and themed
activities while beloved movies such as “The Cat in the Hat” and “Dr. Seuss’ How the
Grinch Stole Christmas” will be shown on the Seaside Theatre screens.
A Dr. Seuss Bookville facility will be added on
Carnival Freedom during its upcoming dry dock
and will also be featured on Carnival Vista when
it debuts in 2016. Other highlights include
interactions and photo opportunities with Dr.
Seuss characters and activities such as the

From enjoying breathtaking views on the ropes course to zipping down the

Although the Carnival Breeze played a central role, what made “Guy’s

SUNSHINE!
The New Orleans debut of the totally transformed Carnival Sunshine was truly “one for the ages.” From a
captivating naming ceremony to a fun-filled overnight gala and inaugural sailing and beyond, the festivities were
the perfect way to introduce this spectacular ship to its new homeport of New Orleans.
One of the many highlights of the Carnival Sunshine’s inaugural festivities was the ship’s official naming which
had a distinctive New Orleans theme and featured Lin Arison, the wife of Carnival’s late founder Ted Arison,
serving as godmother.
The naming kicked off with a fun welcome by Senior Cruise Director and Emcee John Heald who, with the
assistance of Destrehan High School Marching Band -- winners of the Battle of the High School Marching Bands
sponsored by Carnival and New Orleans NBC affiliate WDSU-TV -- introduced President and CEO Gerry Cahill.
Following remarks from Gerry and Port of New Orleans CEO Gary LaGrange
and a poignant tribute video to Lin, several members of YoungArts – one
of the many arts-related charities supported by Lin – performed a showstopping New Orleans-themed song and dance number that left the
audience mesmerized!
Then, it was the moment everyone had been waiting for. After the oversized
bottle arrived on a Mardi Gras-inspired float, Lin and Captain Giuseppe
Giusa activated the mechanism that shattered the bottle across the Carnival
Sunshine’s hull. Success!
Thanks to all who made this naming ceremony one of the best ever!

CARNIVAL GUESTS
AND EMPLOYEES
THE STARS OF
NEW MARKETING
CAMPAIGN
18
SEAVIEW
Carnival introduced a brand new marketing
campaign that uses actual photos
of Carnival guests and employees to
showcase the incredible memories created
aboard our ships.
The new campaign takes an entirely
new approach at getting the word out
about Carnival, using emotional, heartfelt
messaging versus a humorous tone that
was featured in our previous campaigns.
Carnival put the call out this summer – and guests
and employees responded to the tune of 30,000
images and videos submitted via social media.
In addition to a national TV ad campaign featuring
spots on many popular broadcast and cable shows, the campaign includes fun signage in elevators
and murals in the cafeteria at the Miami headquarters featuring images submitted by employees.
Employees are having a great time checking out all the great photos of their fellow team members!
Reaction has been nothing short of sensational and congratulations to the entire marketing team for
coming up with such a clever and thought-provoking campaign and many thanks to the employees
who shared their wonderful photos. Nicely done!

DELICIOUS COMPETITION
In a unique team-building activity, members of the revenue
management team participated in a competition modeled after the
popular Iron Chef television program. Held at Hugh’s Catering in
Fort Lauderdale, the event asked each of the six teams to create
a tasting menu featuring a variety of delicious dishes using the
“secret ingredient” (in this case, clear rice noodles) for the judges’
review. Everyone agreed it was a terrific event and a great way
to spend some quality time away from the office. Wonder what
revenue management will come up with next?
TIME FOR TEA
G’DAY FROM DOWN UNDER
Carnival Liberty’s chef de cuisine and his talented culinary arts team
prepared quite a spread during an afternoon tea for the ship’s team
members. The party featured sweet and savory treats and colorful
pastel-inspired decorations to complete the scene. Thank you, chef!

‘STREET FOOD FAIR’ A HUGE HIT ON CARNIVAL VALOR
Carnival Valor team members enjoyed a variety of international cuisine
during the ship’s first-ever Street Food Fair, with members of the
culinary team donning traditional attire of the many nationalities
represented to add a fun and authentic touch. The ship had several
distinguished guests on board, including SVP of Guest Operations
Mark Tamis, VP of Housekeeping Ian Smith and VP of Shipboard
Finance Operations John Fitzgerald shown here with Chef de
Cuisine Alwyn Coelho and Hotel Director Anuj Khosla. What a
deliciously fun idea!
VISITING THE BRIDGE
FINGER LICKIN’ GOOD!
To better understand how a ship operates, Carnival
Fascination team members were treated to a tour of the bridge
compliments of none other than Captain Carmelo Marino.
Carnival Spirit was the latest ship to host its very own international
feast, which featured everything from sushi and ribs to crepes and
ceviche. It was an amazing celebration of cultures – not to mention
a fun and tasty night of fun!
A GLORY-OUS TOUR
CAKES, CROISSANTS AND COOKIES, OH MY!
Team members from various departments aboard Carnival Glory
got a chance to venture down into the engine room and gain
insight into shipboard operations. Thanks to Chief Engineer Mauro
Fabbrini and Staff Chief Engineer Alfio Panebianco for organizing
the tour and Senior 1st Engineer Mario Gustin for escorting the
group on this informative and comprehensive tour.
Tea parties are all the rage fleetwide and the Carnival Paradise
culinary arts team put together their own unique interpretation of
these events with the recent “Real Tea Time” soiree held in the crew
mess. A menu of pastries, snacks, and, of course, several varieties of
tea were prepared – and quickly devoured – by attendees.

HEALTH WISE
Tuberculosis, or “TB” for short, is an infection that is caused by the
bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M. tuberculosis). The disease is
spread to others when an infected person coughs invisible saliva particles
containing the TB bacteria into the air. The TB bacteria usually attack the
lungs, but can attack any part of the body such lymph nodes, bones and
joints, the brain, and other organs.
TB is a world-wide public health concern. An estimated two billion
people, or one third of the world’s population, are infected. TB is most
prevalent in Asia, Africa, Latin America, Eastern Europe and Russia. Over
one million people per year die of TB.
Signs and symptoms of TB include unexplained weight loss, night

sweats and persisting cough including sometimes coughing up blood. The
majority of infected people, however, feel well and do not know they have TB
until the disease has progressed to a late and dangerous stage.
TB is easily diagnosed and is treatable. All crew members are screened
for TB on their fitness for sea duty exam including on the pre-employment

one and the two year renewal. Much can happen, however, during the
two year interval between your two fitness exams. In an effort to protect
your health and the health of your team members, family members and
our guests, Carnival’s Department of Medical Services now includes TB
screening as part of the ongoing crew wellness program.
It is thus vitally important that all crew members cooperate by
participating in the crew wellness program.
As always, if you have concerns about your health and well-being, please
consult a shipboard medical officer. The medical professionals of Carnival’s
department of medical services stand ready to be of service to you.
HEROES ON THE HIGH SEAS
EDITOR’S NOTE: As part of a regular feature in Seaview’s Health Wise
column, we are including the following guest story that demonstrates yet
another example of the shipboard medical staff’s efforts in providing lifesaving
medical care to our guests.
A 72-year-old male guest on the Carnival Breeze experienced a life-threatening
medical emergency that required the donation of five liters of zero positive
blood. An urgent announcement was made asking team members with zero
positive blood who wished to volunteer to proceed to the Carnival Breeze’s
medical center.
Within minutes, 42 crew members were at the medical center to donate blood
which was administered to the guest. The ship’s food operations team also did its part by providing healthy refreshments to the
blood donors. Carnival Breeze arrived at PortMiami just before 4am on Sunday morning to disembark the guest who was transferred
to a shoreside medical facility, thanks to the incredible generosity of the Carnival Breeze team. What an amazing testament to the
dedication of Carnival’s team members! Way to go!
