ECOLE CLIFF DRIVE ELEMENTARY
Welcome to May
April was a busy month as classes settled back into learning after
our spring break.
Congratulations to those students who represented Cliff Drive at
the Councours d’art Oratoire. Nicola Bancroft placed first
in her age group with honorable mention going to Colin
Graham. The Reading Link Challenge also wrapped up in
April. Congratulations to Meryn Emes, Anja Holland, Chloe
Glue, Autumn Bak, Wonji Kim and Kayla Jones who
represented our school at the district challenge at McClosky
Elementary. Our school was well represented at the District Math
Celebrations. Over 80 students attended the event at Port
Guichon.
Our school gardens have now been planted and are being welltended by the students. Tulips, herbs, and some recently planted
radishes can be seen thriving.

TAKE NOTE!
Mrs. Bartlett would like to thank
all the parents who are keeping
in touch regarding student
absence. The number of phone
calls to homes from the office has
been greatly reduced.
We had two special presentations in April. The first was a
celebration of the anniversary of the TFN treaty. The students
were treated to a dance performance by a trio of First Nations
dancers. The second was a visit by storyteller Jamie Oliviero. He
enchanted our students all day with stories from different parts of
the world.
Mrs. Janzen’s class raised over
$300 with their cupcake sale. The
money is to for the purchase of a
goat in Uganda.
April 22 was Earth Day. Students were invited to bring
flashlights to school and to participate in an afternoon of reading
in the gym with the lights out. Thanks to Mrs. LaRose for
organizing that event.
Field trip forms are now being
emailed home. Please check that
your email address is correct in
Parent Connect.
The Tsawwassen Track Meet will be taking place on May 6th.
We are looking for parent volunteers to help run this event.
Please stop by the office if you are interested in helping.
As the weather improves and the
days get hotter please remember
to send your child to school
prepared. Sun screen and a
water bottle are advised.
Running shoes are still
recommended as classes
participate in daily physical
activity.
Mad Science, an eight-week science club will take place at Cliff
Drive beginning May 1. Registration forms are available at the
office.
Several classes will be attending
the SDSS production of Legally
Blonde. If you would like to
attend the show visit the SDSS
website for more information.
Please inform the school if you
will be attending a different
school in September.

Planning for September
Important Information for Parents to Consider
Next year’s class organization will include both single and combined grade classes.
The number of staff members assigned to Cliff Drive is determined by the Delta
School District. This number is based on the number of students projected to be
in the school in September 2015. The goal of school organization at the class level
is complex and includes the following considerations:
- the need to create balanced classes based on gender, intellectual development
and social/emotional development.
- the need to place your child in a classroom in which she/he will flourish
academically and socially.
Peer relationships and support networks are taken into consideration, as we know
this is important to students’ learning. Parents may choose to share information to
help with the placement of their child.
PLEASE SPEAK WITH YOUR CHILD’S CURRENT TEACHER
regarding any requests that you have, as the teachers create the classes for next
year. This information should NOT include a request for placement with a
particular teacher. Teacher assignments and the grade assignments are not
confirmed until late summer. These assignments are based on the number of
students in each grade.
Requesting a style of teaching is appropriate, as is personal and/or educational
information that will assist with the placement of your child, including past school
information, if this is unknown to us. If you choose to provide the school with
input for placement next year, please do so in writing to Mrs. Keller by May 31
using the form on the school website. Although no request is guaranteed,
educational requests will be considered in combination with the above factors.
