Pavilion Grand Opening
Celebration
The paint was dry, windows sparkled and patient
rooms were ready to go - all that was left on the punch
list was to host a grand celebration to usher in the
$46 Million Florence A. De George Pavilion!
On Wednesday, January 21, the Foundation joyfully welcomed more than 300 friends to
the Grand Opening of this spectacular Pavilion.
The 85,000 square foot state-of-the-art new tower with 44 new patient rooms, including
an entire floor dedicated to the Anderson Family Orthopedic & Spine Center of Excellence,
as well as a new Florence A. De George Children’s & Women’s Services obstetrics unit,
opened to rave reviews.

Community support has
enabled us to greatly expand our
medical services to treat more severe
and complex medical cases.
Our goal is to keep the momentum going so that we can continually provide the best possible healthcare for you, your family
and the whole community. Some exciting, translational events are taking place:
We recently held the grand opening of the Florence A. De George Pavilion, a $46 million, 85,000 square foot facility with a new
expanded obstetrics unit, new orthopedics floor with private patient rooms and state-of-the-art technology throughout.
We acquired many of the latest technologies and equipment:
• The Xi model of the da Vinci® Robotic Surgical System is now in use in the Frank E. and Mary D. Walsh Robotic
Surgery Program. We are the second in South Florida, the third in the state of Florida and fifth in the country to have the
Xi version of the robotic system. With our two robots, we have performed over 1,000 robotic procedures, and are a teaching
site for the new da Vinci® technology.
• We now offer the CyberKnife® M6TM, the most advanced technology available to remove tumors without surgery.
We are the only hospital in Florida and one of a handful of hospitals in the U.S. to have this latest generation of
CyberKnife.
• New Electron Intra-Operative Radiation Therapy (e-IORT) technology enables our doctors to provide radiation therapy
in the operating room during surgery, which can eliminate the need for patients to endure weeks of follow-up radiation.
• An innovative system called MAKOplasty® greatly enhances partial knee reconstruction and can eliminate the need
for a total knee replacement.
JMC Foundation Giving Ways 2 Winter/Spring 2015
• An innovative system called MAKOplasty® greatly enhances partial knee reconstruction and can eliminate the need
for a total knee replacement.
• The Medical Center offers tomosynthesis or 3D mammography – the most sophisticated breast imaging technology
on the market today, enabling our doctors to identify cancer at an earlier stage, when treatment is most effective.
• In February, we announced a major collaboration with Mount Sinai Heart New York in cardiology, bringing a new
level of cardiovascular care and expertise to our community.
• We also launched a major collaboration with Nicklaus Children’s Hospital (formerly Miami Children’s Hospital)
to bring inpatient pediatric care to Jupiter Medical Center with a pediatric inpatient unit, two pediatric operating rooms
and a neonatal intensive care unit.
• We have completed the first phase of our oncology strategic plan with the opening of the Margaret W. Niedland
Breast Center in April 2015. Work has begun on Phase II, which includes construction of a new, comprehensive
cancer center located on Military Trail.
We could not accomplish any of these critical achievements without the support of donors like you. Your investment in
Jupiter Medical Center produces meaningful results to improve your health care now.
As we have said before, it’s not a question of if you will ever need Jupiter Medical Center, but a question of when.
When you do, you can expect world-class healthcare right here close to your home.
Sincerely,
Joseph R. Taddeo

JUPITER MEDICAL CENTER AND
MOUNT SINAI HEART NEW YORK
PARTNER TO PROVIDE THE VERY
BEST CARE FOR YOUR HEART
Jupiter Medical Center is among Florida’s leading hospitals. Mount Sinai Heart New York is ranked among the nation’s
top cardiovascular programs. Together, they’ve formed a partnership to bring the best heart care to residents in
Jupiter, northern Palm Beach and throughout the Treasure Coast.
“We are looking forward to growing this union between Jupiter Medical Center and Mount Sinai Heart New
York so that the patients and families of South Florida and the entire state will have greater access to our proven
model of treatment, care and research,” said Kenneth L. Davis, MD, President and CEO of the Mount Sinai Health
System. “In Jupiter Medical Center, we have found an already-strong cardiac program that is committed to
enhancing its care and contributing to our mission.”
The partnership encompasses nearly all facets of cardiac care, including interventional cardiology, cardiac
rehabilitation, electrophysiology, non-invasive diagnostics, congestive heart failure, wellness and prevention, and
research and education. The benefits of Mount Sinai Heart New York at Jupiter Medical Center include,
among other things:
• Jupiter Medical Center and Mount Sinai Heart physicians will share knowledge, experience, best practice quality
protocols and clinical pathways for better patient care.
• Jupiter Medical Center physicians will have access to clinical consults with their Mount Sinai Heart New York
colleagues and the partners will also use telehealth technology, which allows for remote sharing of information,
images, lab results, and patient assessments in real time.
• Innovative research protocols will be available to patients, including new cardiac therapies, and will increase
treatment options.
• For open-heart surgery, heart transplants or procedures not routinely performed at Jupiter Medical Center, local
patients will have coordinated access, if they choose, to physicians and surgeons at Mount Sinai Heart
in New York City.
“Our experienced cardiac team at Jupiter Medical Center performs more than 1,000 procedures each year,”
explained Gonzalo Loveday, MD, a veteran South Florida cardiologist who has been named Medical Director of
Mount Sinai Heart New York at Jupiter Medical Center. “What’s exciting is the fact that this collaboration will allow
us to access higher quality treatments for our community.”
Central to the partnership is renowned cardiologist, Valentin Fuster, MD, Director of Mount Sinai Heart.
“Mount Sinai Heart New York at Jupiter Medical Center will be a home-away-from-home for New York patients
who winter in Florida and they will benefit from the seamless continuity of care,” said Dr. Fuster.

CyberKnife M6
®
™
at The Ella Milbank Foshay Cancer Center
A First for Jupiter Medical Center – and Florida!
Anthony Addesa, MD, Medical Director of Radiation Oncology at Jupiter Medical Center with patient
The CyberKnife® M6™ is a highly accurate
robotic radiosurgery system capable of destroying
cancerous and non-invasive tumors of various
shapes, sizes and depths while protecting
normal surrounding tissue.
The Foshay Cancer Center at Jupiter Medical
Center is the first – and only – center in Florida
(and one of only a handful in the nation) to offer
the CyberKnife® M6™.
It’s a non-invasive, pain-free treatment option
for patients who have inoperable or surgically
complex tumors, or who may be looking for an
alternative to surgery.
And it is nothing short of amazing.
The CyberKnife System contains a special
device that moulds into various shapes as it
moves to different positions. “So it’s doing its
treatment and imaging at the same time,”
explains Dr. Anthony Addesa, Medical
Director of Radiation Oncology at Jupiter
Medical Center.
“If we’re treating a lung tumor, the CyberKnife
is monitoring the movement of the tumor
JMC Foundation Giving Ways 12 Winter/Spring 2015
within the lung in real time and making finite
adjustments as we do that. We’re continually
hitting a moving target. Even if a patient coughs
and the tumor is suddenly in a different
position, the CyberKnife tracks it and is capable
of treating just the tumor.”
Because the CyberKnife is non-invasive, it
requires no anesthesia, no recovery time, and
can be done on an outpatient basis.
“Our mission at Jupiter Medical Center is to
always provide the highest level of care possible,
including using new technology when appropriate,”
says Dr. Addesa. “Having performed stereotactic
radiosurgery for more than 15 years now, I can attest
that the M6™ technology is a leap forward in cancer
care. It has the capability of treating patients and
getting rid of their tumors in the least invasive way
possible.”
“I believe that the quicker you treat somebody
and get them back to their normal lives, the
better off patients are both medically and
psychologically.”

Standing: Martin Gregge, Frank Spitalny, Richard Bergel, Mel Dinner, Howard First, Bill Silver,
Mike Slosberg, Rich Luchini, head golf professional.
Frenchman’s Creek held its annual Men’s Health Day Golf Tournament on December 10, 2014.
The tournament was a huge success with 230 participating golfers and 35 non-golfing guests joining in the festivities.
Both the co-chair of the tournament, Steve Weinberg and the Chairman of the Board of the
Jupiter Medical Center Foundation, Joe Taddeo, were in attendance. Joe Taddeo even got his 5th hole-in-one! This
was the best-attended Men’s Health Day in the event’s history.
The Tournament has pledged to raise $1 million to benefit the Frenchman’s Creek Center for Excellence
in Digestive Health at Jupiter Medical Center. This is the second year the tournament
benefits digestive health at JMC, raising $315,000 toward the pledge.
“We made a commitment to raise $1 million within four years. With results like we had, it looks like
we will achieve our goal a year ahead of schedule,” said Steve Weinberg, event co-chair. “Jupiter Medical
Center is only as strong as the support it receives. Frenchman’s Creek highly values the world-class
quality of care residents receive at Jupiter Medical Center. As the Medical Center rapidly grows, it is our
hope to continue to contribute to that growth,” he added.
The Frenchman’s Creek Center for Excellence in Digestive Health provides comprehensive care

DON’T NEED AN ESTATE TAX
CHARITABLE DEDUCTION?
WE’VE GOT IDEAS
A gift to charity generates an estate tax charitable deduction, but
what if your estate isn’t subject to tax? In 2015, the estate tax credit
shelters estates up to $5.43 million. Many people, even those with
estates in excess of the sheltered amount, avoid estate tax by leaving
assets to surviving spouses, which qualify for the unlimited marital
deduction. Even if estate taxes aren’t a concern, many people want to
remember the organizations, such as Jupiter Medical Center
Foundation, that have been important in their lives.
Craig A. Moran
Director of Major Gifts & Planned Giving Mary had a $50,000 charitable bequest to her favorite organization in
Jupiter Medical Center Foundation
her estate plan, but she changed her living trust to leave everything to
her husband instead. No matter how large her estate, she will owe no estate tax, thanks to the marital
deduction. But Mary is confident that her husband, who also loves the organization, will make the
“bequest” for her. At her death, he can make a lifetime gift of $50,000 and will be entitled to an income
tax charitable deduction, saving more tax than if she left the bequest in her estate plan.
The Smiths have seven children and several grandchildren. Over the years they made annual gifts to
the younger family members using the gift tax exclusion ($14,000 in 2015). Because of these gifts, the
Smiths will have an estate that they anticipate will be completely sheltered from the estate tax. The
Smiths have also been generous donors to various charities and would like to continue their support
through their estate plan, but there would be no estate tax benefit for their bequests. Instead, the estate
of the survivor will go to the children, who are aware of and share the parents’ philanthropic goals. The
children can then make the gifts to charity in the parents’ names and receive income tax deductions that
will save them money.
George established a trust that, at his death, will pay all the income to his sister for life, along with
any trust principal that the trustee deems appropriate. At his sister’s death, the remaining assets will
be distributed to his favorite organization. Because this is not a qualified charitable remainder trust, no
charitable deduction will be available. But because George’s estate is below the sheltered amount, the
deduction is not important. The trust will not be tax-exempt, but George wants to ensure that his sister
has the funds necessary for her comfortable support.
Please feel free to call our office at 561-263-5728 if you’d like more information on these
or other ideas for continuing your generous support of Jupiter Medical Center Foundation
through your estate plan.
