his influential big band is very much alive. Led by alto
saxophonist and long-time Ra collaborator Marshall Allen,
the Arkestra bring interplanetary swing, funk and doo-wop
to the Big Top in a joyous burst of tightly organised
madness. Majestic in their sequinned space capes, this will

Saxophonist and US jazz heavyweight Lee Konitz was a
key player in Miles Davis’ Birth of the Cool band and has
had a remarkable 70 year career. His unmistakable sound
and thoughtful, melodic playing are the epitome of cool.
He is joined by double Grammy nominated trumpet player
and renowned innovator Dave Douglas in the UK premiere
of this new quintet.

with godfather of afrobeat Fela Kuti in Nigeria. The experience
left a lasting impression. Three decades later Lovano has
become a renowned voice in jazz, bringing together the

as he explores the connection between West African music
and jazz.

the Festival for a rare UK performance. His grounding in jazz

less. Soulful singer Rumer’s journey, from lonely and lost
to where she is now, can be heard throughout her music as
she brings her new album Into Colour to the Festival.
Saxophonist Julian Argüelles is one of the key musicians who
emerged from the ranks of Loose Tubes. Formed especially for
the festival, this new seven-piece band expands upon Arguelles’
existing quartet, with the addition of three up-and-coming
horn players: Percy Pursglove, Kieran McLeod and George
Crowley. The band premieres new arrangements of Julian’s
fine compositions.

we must actively raise 96% of our funding
every year to bring the arts and sciences live to
audiences, support emerging talent, and deliver
inspirational educational programmes.
