Also, coming up on February 20th is our Winter Activity Day. This will be a day when both the Middle School and the Early Years’ School will get together to get outdoors and play some games. This is an excellent time for older students to get to know the younger students and build community between our schools. If you have time on that day, please feel free to come by the Early Years’ School in the afternoon from 1 – 3:30. We are proud of our students and the effort they put into the athletic program and overall activities here at the school. We would encourage all family members and friends to come out and support the kids as they participate and compete in these sports and activities throughout the school year. If you have any questions about this program, please feel free to contact Mr. Simpson at MMYS. Here are some upcoming co-curricular events we are offering our band students in the next term: March 12-14, Parkland-Norman Honour Band, Dauphin Parkland-Norman Honor Band is an enrichment opportunity open to all grade 8 - 12 band students. This year, we will have a Gr. 8 Concert Band, a Grade 9/10 concert band, a Grade 11/12 concert band, and senior Jazz Band. This event is an excellent co-curricular opportunity for our Gr. 8 and possibly some advanced Gr. 6 -7 students to challenge themselves at an honor level of repertoire and performance. The sign-up and selection process has already begun. Over the next few weeks, our students will independently learn some challenging repertoire at home before joining about 100 other skilled students from the Parkland-Norman region. Our guest conductors will rehearse the students for 2 days before performing what is always a high calibre performance at the DRCSS. PNHB students and parents should watch for more information in during the next few weeks. March 19-21, Brandon Jazz Festival, Brandon Our jazz combo sets its sights on the Brandon Jazz Festival. This is an important trip for the jazz band as it presents many educational and performance opportunities for us. April 13-17 Swan Valley Band Festival, Swan River and Minitonas Our concert bands (Gr.6-7 and Gr. 8) and the jazz combo have concentrated their rehearsals for adjudications.
