Cut a strip of fabric the width. 2. Align the ruler's 45-degree line with the left lower edge of the fabric, sliding it far enough onto the strip so that there's fabric under its entire right edge. 3. Rotary cut along the right edge of the ruler to create the diamond's first angled side. 4. Find the line on your rotary ruler that matches the cutting height of the diamond--the same line you used to cut the fabric strip in step 1. Match the line with the angled left edge of the fabric and align the degree line along the bottom edge of the strip. 5. Rotary cut along the right side of the ruler to cut away the first diamond. Continue cutting diamond segments as needed for your quilt. Cutting Note: All Strips are cut from selvage to selvage unless otherwise indicated. 2216-01W, Snowflake – Pigment White • Cut (4) 12 1/2" strips and then cut (12) 12 1/2" E squares 2216-08, Snowflake – Red on White • Cut (3) 3” strips. Center the border with the quilt top. 2. Place them together with the right sides facing each other. Sew together with a 1/4 inch seam allowance. The quilt center should be on top and the border on bottom (so you will be looking at the back of your quilt top as you stitch). Make sure you start and stop stitching 1/4 inch from the edge of the main body of your quilt. This is an important part of getting the corner points and seams in the right place. 3. Repeat the step above for the remaining 3 sides. (Make sure the Black and Red borders are attached to the correct side before sewing.) Be sure and pull the extra from the previous border out of the way. Remember to start and stop 1/4 inch from the edge (where the seam from the other sides ends). The seams will meet up 1/4 inch from each corner, but will not cross over each other. •STUDIO e PROJECTS• Page 8 of 9 4. After sewing all four borders on, iron and press the seams. For the corner seams, fold the top in half to form a triangle. Make sure all the seams and edges match up neatly. Spread the borders out and line them up with right sides facing each other. 5. Line up a ruler with the folded edge of the quilt straight out through the borders and draw a line using a pencil or a quilt marker. Place a couple of pins along the line to secure. Stich on the line, stopping where the previous stitching stopped. Be sure and back stitch here to lock in the stitches. 6. Flatten out the quilt top and make sure everything looks accurate. If you are happy with the results, press and trim the seam allowance to 1/4 inch. •STUDIO e PROJECTS• Page 9 of 9 Layering, Quilting and Finishing 1. Cut Backing to 86" x 86" 2. Press the quilt top and backing well. Layer backing (wrong side up), batting and quilt top (right side up) and baste. Quilt as desired and trim excess batting and backing when quilting is complete 3. Cut (8) 2 1/4" strips from the 1351-Onyx. Cut the ends of the binding strips at a 45-degree angle and sew end to end to make one continuous piece of binding. Fold in half lengthwise and press wrong sides together. Sew the binding to the quilt, raw edges together. Turn and fold edge to the back and hand stitch in place. © 2013 Studio e Fabrics ®
