WELCOME!
We are so pleased to be returning for Knit Nation
2011, sponsored once again by the wonderful Knitting
Magazine and the inimitable Ysolda Teague. You’ll
find a Marketplace with the best of British independent
dyers, notions and local yarn shops, as well as
covetable goodies and yumminess from further afield.
Classes are as always a top priority and we’ve got
some exciting ones on offer this year.
This year we have a Knit-Tea Salon upstairs in the
Senior Common Room of Sherfield Building where
students and marketplace attendees can kick back,
relax and enjoy some refreshments and snacks.
We’re also very excited to be bringing you a Charity
Bingo party on Saturday night in support of Refuge,
a UK charity helping victims of domestic abuse. All
profits from ticket sales and bingo book sales go
straight to Refuge. Join us for a fun evening for a great
cause.
Thank you for being such wonderful Knit Nationites.
We look forward to meeting you and hope you have a
fantastic time at Knit Nation 2011.
Love,

CHARITY BINGO PARTY
Saturday night’s party is a special event: a
Charity Bingo where profits from ticket and
bingo sales all go to support Refuge, a UK
charity that has spent the last forty years
fighting against domestic abuse.
These are sad facts:
• 1 woman in 4 experiences domestic
violence at some point in her life.
• 2 women are killed each week in
•
England and Wales by a current or
former partner.
In 90% of domestic violence incidents
in a family with children, children are
in the same or next room, and in 59%
of these cases, children are directly
abused.
The women’s sector is one of the most impoverished of all
charitable sectors; your support is much needed and really does
makes a huge difference. Your money directly assists in:
PROVIDING
• 45 refuges across England for abused women and children
• community outreach schemes for minority ethnic women
• specialist psychological support and a team of floating support
workers to help women who choose not to go into a refuge
• a National Domestic Violence Helpline in partnership with
Women’s Aid, which answers 75,000 calls a year.
• an Independent Domestic Violence Advocacy service, which
provides expert legal guidance to women at the highest risk
of injury or death, and helps to secure more convictions for
perpetrators.
PROTECTING
• abused women and children by advocating for robust
legislation which meets their needs
17
PREVENTING
• domestic violence through campaigning, awareness raising
and education.
We want to thank our generous sponsors, without whom we
could not have put on the party. We also wish to thank each
and every person and business who have donated the incredible
prizes for the night. To give you a taster of what will be up for
grabs:
• Forest Darkness Black Bohus pullover kit from Solveig
Gustafsson
• A handknit Knitspot design shawlette… knit by Anne Hanson
herself
• Full membership to Knitspot’s Fall in Full Color Club
• Cookie A Sock Club 2012 membership
Hand dyed yarns, knitting books, project bags.... and more! Join
the party, win great prizes, socialise with friends...all while also
supporting a great charity. Tickets are £20 at the door, and
include a glass of house wine or beer and a bingo booklet, AND a
souvenir bingo bag. Further booklets are £5 each. The more you
play, the better your chances of winning and the more we raise
for Refuge! BINGO!
