Centre Takes Shape
Expected to open in spring 2016, the new
35,000 square-foot Timms Community
Centre is quickly taking shape next to
Langley City Hall and library at 20399
Douglas Crescent. The integrated building
organization is designed to serve as a community, sport and cultural hub where residents
of all ages can come together to access group
activities, health and fitness opportunities,
public information and community resources.
City Launches ReCollect Online Tool:
Never Miss Your Collection Day Again!
If you’ve ever lost track of garbage
day or raced outside after hearing the
garbage truck, you’re in luck! As a City
of Langley resident, you can now access
your pick-up schedule online and sign up
for a free customized reminder service.
Simply type in your address and you can
view your collection day details and any
service change information, as well as
set up a collection reminder via text or
email. Sign up today at city.langley.bc.ca/
city-services/garbage-recycling.
As a vibrant focal point of our community, it
will act as a catalyst for future development

As we head into the summer months,
the City of Langley will be forging
ahead on the priorities detailed in the
2015 Financial Plan and 2013 – 2017
Strategic Plan. In addition to transportation improvements, infrastructure
renewal is one of the City’s top priorities. City Council has allocated an additional 0.38% property tax increase
towards funding future infrastructure
renewal to address the replacement
of aging water and sewer pipes and
make necessary road improvements.
As most residents are aware, Metro
Vancouver (MV) is currently upgrading
a key component of the
regional sanitary sewer
system along the
right-of-way from
Fraser Highway
to 57A Avenue,
along a portion
of 57A, along 200
Street from 57A to
Michaud Crescent, then
along the BC Hydro right-ofway to 53 Avenue. The City of Langley
is using this opportunity to incorporate
planned capacity and performance
upgrades to the water, sanitary and
storm water utilities that run beneath
200 Street between 53 Avenue and
Fraser Highway. This unique partnership will result in cost efficiencies,
reduce the length of the construction
and, as much as possible, minimize
disruption to the residents, motorists
and the community at large. Upon
completion of the utility work the full
width of 200 Street will be repaved
from 53 Avenue to Fraser Highway.
Message from
the Mayor
Two important task forces have
also been created: the Homelessness Task Force and the Community
Crime Prevention Task Force. The
mandate of the Homelessness
Task Force will be to break down
the issues around homelessness in
the City and develop a new service
delivery model that will be a substantial shift in the way we respond
to our community’s social and health
challenges. The recommendations
will frame an action plan that aims
to reorganize support and services
and deliver them in a more effective
way to help people get well
and integrated into the
community.
The purpose
of the Community
Crime Prevention
Task Force is to
establish a team
of community representatives to review
the factors that contribute to
crime and safety problems, conduct
research on best practices, develop
appropriate action plans and prioritize efforts to prevent and reduce
crime. By working as a community,
our goal is to develop a well-balanced strategy for intervention and
to put that strategy into action for
the benefit of everyone.

happening in the City and we thank

work towards our mission to build a
vibrant, healthy and safe community.

Road Rehabilitation
• Sidewalk accessibility improvements
on 203 Street, 53 Avenue and
Glover Road.
• New curb, gutter, sidewalk, bike
lanes and parking lane on 48 Avenue between 205 Street and 208
Street. ICBC contributed to this project by doing a Road Safety Audit of
the design and contributing $8,000
towards road safety improvements.
Water, Sanitary and
Storm Water Upgrades
• Watermain replacement and sewer
upgrade at 48 Avenue.
• Resurfaced Douglas Park Tennis
Courts and added Pickle Ball lines.
• Paved dog-off leash parking lot and
installed new gates.
• Rebuilt six wooden bridges in the
City’s nature trails.
• Installed three information kiosks in
trails system.

value of $41.2 million in 2014.
