Shuttle service will be provided from the Fire
Department lot to the Senior Center entrance
for the March 27 Monthly Celebration. Our senior center is very busy with
activities and though we
consider this a great thing,
we understand that parking
is often a challenge when
we have special events or
multiple activities. We are
grateful to have parking available in the Fire
Department lot, but understand this is a great
distance for many of our seniors. We plan to
try out the shuttle this month and see if it is
helpful in addressing our parking issues. Pick
up location is the benches at the bus pick up
location in Munson Road Fire Department lot.
Drop off is at the Munson Rd. entrance doors.
Fri, Mar 27 11 a.m. – 1:15 p.m.

Lunch and Learn - A Life Settlement Option
Most seniors have no idea they may be able to sell their
life insurance policy. Instead, they forfeit their policy to the
insurance company for whatever cash is available. A life
settlement allows a senior to sell their life insurance policy
on the secondary life settlement market for significantly
more than the cash provided by the insurance company.

SENIOR CENTER INFORMATION
Remarks from Renee
After a cold snowy winter, I am looking
forward to a warm and sunny spring.
With spring comes spring cleaning. The
Mentor Senior Center will be closed
Thursday April 30 – Sunday May 3 to
partake in spring cleaning. During this
time we plan to complete many tasks
that cannot happen when we are open
such as replacing floors, updating and
installing new equipment, cleaning
carpets and upholstery, stripping and
sealing floors. While you are enjoying a
few days away from the center the staff
will be working hard to keep our facility
looking great. Thanks for your understanding. Please visit us the week of
May 4 to see all the exciting updates
and sparkling clean facility.

Dave Discusses
Planning programs for March and April
is getting me excited about the warm
months and programs that lie ahead.
Our Indians Opening Day event is scheduled for Friday, April 10. Our outdoor
recreation groups start up again in
April, so if you are looking to hike, bike,
or fish, please join in at any time. I am
looking for a leader for the Monday evening hikes, if you are interested, please
let me know.
Do you have knowledge or expertise
that you would like to share with other
seniors…I am always looking for new
programs and ideas.
Our first Wellness Challenge kicks off in
March. Using the Wellness Kiosk, members can track their minutes of exercise
and record them on the IPAD. A leader
board will track results. Another challenge is scheduled for April and the top
3 finishers will get awards. Kiosk trainings are scheduled for March 4 and 30
from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Think SPRING!

Fitness Center/Exercise Equipment Training
We have cardiovascular equipment including 5 treadmills, 3 bikes, 2 seated ellipticals, and 3 standing
ellipticals. The Tuff Stuff strength station offers a wide
variety of exercises and the Precor stretch trainer offers great stretching options. You must be 55 years or
older, a member of the senior center and must take
the Exercise Equipment Training Class to participate.
Learn to use our equipment safely with proper form,
seat and weight settings and how to use a workout
card to track your progress from a certified instructor.
Classes are limited to four participants.
The two hours of instruction is available in 2 formats:
The one hour, 2 session class is recommended for
most seniors and those new to exercise. The two hour,
1 session class is recommended only for those experienced exercisers already familiar with the equipment.
Due to small class size, it is not possible to do a
make up if you miss one of your appointed classes.

Frequently Asked Questions
I just signed up for Line Dance class and one
session has 7 classes while the other has 8.
Is this a mistake?
Almost all of our ongoing programs such as fitness
and art classes are scheduled in 2 month sessions.
These sessions average out to be 7.2 classes per
session depending on when the month starts and
ends and holidays. If a session has less than 7
classes we will skip the break week to make it 7
classes per session.
Why do we have break weeks?
Break week provides an opportunity for make up
classes due to bad weather, or instructor illness.
When we cancel a class we will let the participants
know the make up date.
Any guesses on the most frequently asked
question?
Hands down, the most frequent question we get
is “Are you open?” The answer is almost ALWAYS
yes. Other than closing for holidays the center has
not closed in the 6 years I have worked here. This
is because we are an emergency shelter, a place
where you can warm up if your heat is out, charge
up your devices if you don’t have power or cool
down in the summer if you don’t have air conditioning. We have a generator which allows us to provide
these services even if we do not have power. Occasionally the city will designate the center as an
after hours emergency shelter when the situation
calls for it.
What is the best time to use the fitness center?
The fitness center is typically busiest in the mornings from about 8:30 til noon. Early afternoons are
a bit quieter and late afternoon and evening tend to
be the slowest time.
Lost and Found Items will be displayed in
the Lobby March 2 - 6.
Claim your lost or missing items before we
donate or dispose of them.
Stop by and check; you just might find that
missing glove, piece of jewelry, jacket,
gym shoes etc.
