Have you thought
about volunteering?
Welcome to
this edition of
Park Life; it
features a
number of
projects CPP
is currently
running so
please help
spread the word about our services.
Earlier this year, CPP brought
together residents who had been
involved in the Clapham Park NDC
programme. It was wonderful to
see old friends and reminisce about
the work we undertook to transform
conditions in the neighbourhood.
The one thing we all agreed upon
was that our achievements were
due to residents getting involved.
While conditions have improved in
Clapham Park, there is still more
work to do, so if you want to
volunteer, please get in touch.
There are many ways you can help.
As I write this, there are only a
couple of weeks to go before the
general election, so I will close by
urging you to vote on 7th May 2015.
Let’s hope for a good turnout.
Best wishes
Donna.C.Henry MBE
Chair

Clapham Park—Ten Years Of
Change
On 26th February 2015 Clapham Park Project hosted a reception at
the Clapham Park Centre.
The event saw the launch
of a publication which
celebrated the
achievements of those
residents and workers
whose efforts transformed
the neighbourhood. It’s
easy to forget how bad
conditions were in 2000
when the Clapham Park
New Deal for
Communities programme began, so much has changed for the
better.
The evening began
with speeches, Donna
C. Henry, MBE, Chair
of CPP, was delighted
to introduce local
resident Oliver
Higgins and our
former MP Keith Hill
who both reflected on
the contribution local
people made in
improving conditions
in their community.
If you would like a copy of the publication please contact Clapham
Park Project on 020 8678 5940 or visit our website,

Have YOU thought about volunteering?
Can YOU spare a few hours to support elderly people in your community?
Clapham Park Project’s TLC (Time Loving Care) service has been running for 2 years now,
providing support for local older and vulnerable people in a similar way to a befriending
scheme, but focusing on the practical. The TLC service has successfully completed and
obtained Disability Living Allowance, Dial-A-Ride and Taxi-Card renewal applications for clients.
We helped clients with shopping, charging up their electricity or gas meter keys and also
de-cluttering in preparations for works to be carried out in their homes.
We have been fortunate to have a small number of dedicated volunteers, who have been
motivated by their desire to help in their community, but we need more. Veronica, one of our
volunteers tells us why she is volunteering for the TLC service:
“I enjoy giving something back to the community and I enjoy being with the elderly”
“My experience working with TLC has been extremely positive. I have found the TLC to be
professional and proactive throughout our interaction…TLC have listened and taken into
account the client’s experience and challenges, as a result our interaction with Mr L has been a
success. Communication has been excellent.” Comment from Lambeth Social Services.

Over 50 Social Club AGM
It was a good turnout for the Over 50s
Social Club AGM held on 26 March with 32
people attending. There was a good discussion
about the activities from the previous year and
the finances. 11 people were elected onto the
Committee (Clapham Park Project was coopted on as a non-voting member).
There
has
already
been
interest to join
from those who
were not able
to attend due to
illness.
The
Committee will
make a decision about this at their next
meeting.
If you are interested in becoming a member of
the Over 50s Social Club, please contact Ching

Trip to the Theatre
Thank you to Metropolitan Clapham Park
and the Two Boroughs Project, 9 older
residents were able to enjoy an evening out
at the Young Vic watching Ah, Wilderness!
By Eugene O’Neill. For some, it was the
first time they
have been to
the
theatre
and others, it
was a rare
treat.
“It was the
first time to
the theatre for me. I like the scenery
because it was so different and very
realistic … It was also lovely to go as a
group”
“I enjoyed the play. It was a lovely evening
out instead of just sitting at home. I have
been researching a bit about the playwright
since then.”

Spiral—Working with young people
Spiral, an award winning social enterprise (Teach First Community Choice Award 2014) will work intensively with young people in Lambeth to inspire and prepare them for the future. Over a
series of workshops young people will:
Sample different careers in an intensive skills programme.
Meet role model professionals from the local community.
Develop the transferable skills essential for any job.
Complete challenges designed to replicate tasks in the working
world that require these transferable skills to succeed.
Record their new skills on an innovative online
professional profile which can be used for CVs and personal
statements.
Get opportunities for work experience, training opportunities or information on next steps so that they can
follow up their new found interest and move towards fulfilling employment.
The project is designed and delivered in partnership with our Lambeth Youth Panel, Lambeth professionals and our local partners such as Build It, Rise To, Free2Learn and more. These partners and professionals also provide the further training and employment opportunities.
