PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
Dear Clemens Mill Families;
Is it Spring yet??? Oh my - weeks of indoor recess are not fun at all! We will all be glad to see the end
of these unfriendly temperatures. However, we were so fortunate to be able to get outside to celebrate
Carnaval on Thursday, March 5. Bonhomme was a huge hit as he mingled with our students and
happily danced to French music. Meanwhile inside of the gym, staff and students were treated to
delicious pastries and French culture in our very authentic French café. Just two examples of the many
wonderful things happening at Clemens Mill School.
As a staff we continue to work on our School Improvement Plan and have been focusing our learning
on Descriptive Feedback in all subject areas and “Thinking Questions” in mathematics. Ask your child if
they can demonstrate a number string for you!
Our busy and supportive School Council is running a chocolate bar campaign in their efforts for support
our technology campaign. Our goal is to put additional iPads and Chromebooks into the hands of more
students.
I want to thank all of you in your efforts to support our students being to school on time. We have
noticed a drastic reduction in the number of late arrivals which has in turn dramatically decreased
interruptions to class learning. Thank you!
Wishing all of you a wonderful March Break…we see all of our Dolphins back at the Mill on Monday
March 23!
Sincerely,
Carolyn Graham, Proud Principal
Clemens Mill Events
On March 5th, Clemens Mill hosted their annual French Carnaval. A great
time was had by all as we bundled up and headed outside for some good
old fashioned winter fun. The hot chocolate flowed as traditional Carnaval
music played in the background. This French cultural event allowed students
to take part in many of the traditional Carnaval games. Our older students
showed their artistic side by taking to the hill and sculpting some snow
masterpieces. Even Bonhomme took some time out of his busy schedule to
stop by and say "Joyeux Carnaval!"

Bonjour les dauphins! All classes attended Café Cupidon in the gym on
March 5th. Drinks and "des desserts délicieux" were served by the Grades
3/4 and 8 F.I. classes and enjoyed by many "clients"! Popcorn was sold
throughout the day as well. Together we raised over $2000!! All donations
will go to the Cambridge Self Help Food Bank and the WWF. Visitors from
the Food Bank, Fiddlesticks and the WRDSB came to Café Cupidon and
offered many positive comments about our school! French was heard all
around the "café”. We are excited that as a school we also practiced the
trait of Social Responsibility!
Merci beaucoup, students, for your
involvement and parents, for your support of this endeavour!
Clemens Mill is a “Caring and Inclusive” school, focusing on eight key
character traits. We spend an entire month on activities highlighting each
trait. The trait for March is Empathy and students will have a fun-filled spirit
assembly on Tuesday March 31st during the last block. Spirit can be shown
by wearing plaid. The trait for April will be Hope.
The Primary division is hosting a Mabel's Labels fundraiser to raise money
for a sandbox in our outdoor classroom. The fundraiser will end on April
28th. To support this fundraiser, please visit www.mabelsfundraising.com
and search for "Help us get a sandbox!!!" or enter the ID #: 21208 to place
your order.
Come on out to see our wonderfully talented students perform on
Wednesday, March 11 at 7pm. See you there!
Extra Curricular Activities
Intermediate
Boys Basketball
Our intermediate boys’ basketball team had an outstanding season this
year, capturing the “A” Division Championship and cementing their place in
the legacy of Dolphin athletics. After a regular season of tremendous
victories and heartbreaking losses, the boys steamrolled through the
playoffs en route to their championship victory over cross-town rival Avenue
Road. Congratulations to all of our graduating Grade 8s for their dedication
and leadership this season and we look forward to seeing this year’s Grade
7s step into those roles next season!
Intermediate
Girls Basketball
Basketball
All-Stars
Junior Boys &
Girls Basketball
The Girls' Basketball team wrapped up its season recently - one filled with a
great deal of skill development, team growth, competition and fun! The girls'
regular season concluded with a 3 win/2 loss record. Wins were earned
through solid offense, tremendously scrappy defense and leadership from
key players. The girls showed excellence while grabbing wins from Avenue
Road, Cedar Creek, and Stewart Ave. Despite determination and terrific
effort, the team came up short against Moffat Creek and the eventual AAA
Champions, St. Andrew's. Moving into the AA Playoff Tournament, the team
faced an aggressive and talented team from Baden and was unable to earn
a victory to move on in the playoffs. Nevertheless, the team can be proud of
its season! A huge thank you to those parents who volunteered their time to
drive team members to games, to Mr. Wilson for refereeing, and to grade 8
students Kait, Chloe, and Kellsie for running the scorer’s table throughout
the season.
All coaches from both the girls' and boys' basketball teams wish to
congratulate the following players who were recognized as All-Stars at the
Annual Basketball All-Star Charity Event held recently: Jenna S, Azaliah C,
Erykah L-G, Breanna K, Ethan M, Walter L, Aaron F, and Luke F.
The Jr Boys and Jr Girls Basketball Teams had outstanding showings at
their friendship tournaments at Hespeler Public School on March 9 and 10.
Both teams competed with four other Cambridge schools and represented
Clemens Mill with excellent participation, teamwork, and school spirit!
Clemens Mill was proud to send 34 students to the tournament as one of the
largest (and most spirited) teams! Coaches Reinhart and Laing congratulate
all players for their commitment to the team. Go Dolphins Go!

Movie Night!
School Council meetings are held in the library at 7pm on the 2nd
Wednesday of every month. We encourage all parents to come out and
have a voice on council! The next council meeting is March 11th.
On March 11, we will kick-off our new fundraising campaign - Aunt Sarah’s
Simply Delicious Chocolate Bars. The oldest child in each family will
receive one case of 30 chocolate bars; the bars sell for $2 each. Additional
bars are available when a student has returned his or her money as well as
a signed form requesting an additional case. Please return all money and
unsold chocolate to the school by March 31. There will be many prizes
available including the grand prize of an iPad. All proceeds will go towards
our goal of doubling the number of iPads and Chromebooks in each of our
classrooms. Thank you in advance for your support of this program, the
success of this campaign begins with our families.
School Council will host the next Family Movie Night on Friday, March 27th.
Doors open at 6pm with the movie, Penguins of Madagascar, starting at
6:30pm. All ages are welcome - children must be accompanied by an adult.
Pajamas, stuffies and blankets are encouraged! Pizza, popcorn and water
will be available to purchase. Watch your child's agenda for pre-order forms
shortly. New for this month - all pre-orders received at school before Friday
will be put in a draw for a special family prize to be awarded that night!
Dance-A-Thon
The dance-a-thon, organized by our wonderful School Council, took place
on February 13th and was a HUGE success, raising over $5000!! There
was special lighting, dance competitions, and of course, fabulous prizes.
The proceeds of this event, along with additional funds from School Council,
allowed us to purchase a new iPad or Chromebook for each classroom!
