This position is part of the Public Works Department Leadership Team. What this Position is All About: As part of the broader County Leadership Team, you offer strategic leadership, planning, and administration to the Waste Management Division. Specifically, you will lead a team of four unionized employees and five seasonal positions, implementing the Waste Management Master Plan and overseeing waste diversion programs, recycling collection contracts, public events and education, the Waste Management budget, joint County/City Landfill and research on emerging waste management programs. You will be accountable for the effective administration of all waste management related services, practices, facilities, and events that complement County service excellence and measurably enhance the County’s key performance indicators as outlined in the Strategic Plan. You are able to work with your team and the County community to identify and drive unique ways to engage our residents while increasing waste diversion and enhancing programming. A strong understanding of the waste management environment and County resident experience; the ability to promote, facilitate and integrate flexible and responsive waste management services are critical attributes. You are a strategic thinker who can develop and deliver an engaging vision for waste management within the context of the County’s Strategic Plan and our commitment to County residents. Equally important, you are able to effectively integrate and coordinate a wide range of diverse services, programs and resources into a cohesive operating plan that will achieve sustainable results. Additionally, you will ensure the vision and goals for waste management, as outlined in the Waste Management Master Plan, are tightly aligned and integrated with the needs and priorities of the Public Works Department. You have strong capabilities in the areas of cross-functional collaboration, problem-solving, influencing and political astuteness, engaging staff, negotiating, and decision-making. You are an effective coach and mentor with the ability to empower the Waste Management team toward delivering innovative solutions for our residents. You have a proven track record of managing highfunctioning teams and have demonstrated the ability to influence, motivate and engage others in pursuit of common goals. At the same time, you have built close relationships throughout a larger organization and with partners and key stakeholders. You will have a minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences/Environmental Sciences, combined with several years of progressive experience in the field of Waste Management.
