TheYSU Bookstore is YSU’s only official bookstore where students can RENT EVERY current semester textbook as well as SELL EVERY textbook purchased for the current semester for cash. Career Services: One of YSU’s best kept secrets? It may seem early but even if your student is confident that they’ve chosen a fitting major, NOW is the time for your student to begin their relationship with our Career Services Office. This office provides advice about what to do BEFORE you graduate so that a student stands out from other applicants. They publish a fantastic “Pathways to Success” Brochure that provides a helpful checklist of what to do each year. A student can pick this up at their office or see their Peer Mentor. Important Dates: Registration for students 11-20 hours completed: Wednesday April 22 Finals Week: May 4– May 8 Fall 2015 Semester begins Wednesday August 19 Spring 2015 April Issue CSP News: What are students discussing with their Peer Mentor right now? Registration– discussing possible fall class schedules and getting students connected to their advisor. Finals Week– study strategies to ensure students get the grades they want Preparing for their second year at YSU– students take a brief ‘quiz’ to show what they already know about continued success at YSU and discuss these results with their Peer Mentor to make sure they are ready! Encourage your student to see their Peer Mentor at least one more time. In addition to discussing these concepts, all students will be entered to win a FREE YSU blanket! Calling All Proud Penguins! On Monday, August 17 and Tuesday, August 18, YSU will host IGNITE: a new two-day Orientation program for incoming first year students. The goal of this program is to teach new Penguins what it means to be a part of our community. Housing & Residence Life News If your student lives on campus... The end of the academic year is just around the corner. It has been a fantastic year in Housing & Residence Life. We have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know your resident and hope that they make the decision to return to our halls next year. We would like to thank you, the parents, for everything you have done to help our residents have a successful year. Have a great summer, see you in the fall! 5,000 Penguins Strong... is a campus-wide student involvement initiative to encourage students to be active within one of our 180 student organizations! If your penguin isn't sure where to start when looking for the organization that is the best "fit", they can check out Symplicity through their YSU Portal through three easy steps: 1. Log into their YSU Portal 2. Select the E-Services tab for Students 3. Click on Student Organizations Housing & Residence Life advocates for student involvement and this is a great way to explore all campus has to offer! Congratulations! Resident Education: Li’L sibs Weekend: April 10th-12th, our residents will be inviting their little siblings to experience the residence halls and campus first hand! Movie Series: 4/29 “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1” will be shown outside at the campus fountain. ILLC: The International Living Learning Community will be hosting their second annual spring semester Pot Luck dinner during the month of April! Housing Renewal: Still need housing for Academic Year 2015-2016? The Office of Housing & Residence Life is still accepting applications from current residents for next Academic Year. Current residents can complete their application and select their room via the University Housing Application link available once logged into their MyYSU portal. Current residents who apply by the end of April are able to roll over their current security deposit into to the new Academic Year. Move Out Reminder: The Residence Halls will close at Noon on Saturday, May 9, 2015. To ensure a proper check out, all residents should sign up with their RA to return keys. If students have any questions on the move out process, they can contact their Resident Assistant, Housing Coordinator or stop in the Office of Housing & Residence Life. Summer Housing: Students who are taking 6 credits in the summer are eligible to sign up for summer housing. Applications for summer housing should be submitted by Monday, April 13, 2015. The student can select and apply for the summer term needed via the University Housing Application link within their MyYSU portal.
