Price YSU’s textbook margin is 3-8% below typical pricing at most university bookstores. Accordingly, YSU students save a few dollars on every new and used textbook they purchase compared to students at most other universities. 2. Used Books At YSU, more than 48% of textbooks sold are used books. The national average is 31%. That means students taking six classes at YSU will typically be able to purchase used books for one additional class versus the national average. 3. Rentals Textbook Sales FY 2011 National Average 31% 69% Used New YSU started a rental program where students can rent books for up to 60% off the new retail. In the first year, more than 3,400 books were rented resulting in upfront savings of over $151,000. 4. Buyback YSU pays our students more for their used books than the national average. In addition, because we are so aggressive about acquiring used books we return more money to our students than the national average. Nationally, the average fulltime student gets back $70/year during buyback. The average fulltime YSU student received $77.60 last year. Conclusion: YSU students typically save 10% compared to what they would have to pay at another university.
