Speakers’ Biographies
John Kampfner is CEO of the Creative Industries Federation. He is also Chair of Turner
Contemporary, one of the UK’s most successful cultural institutions. In August 2012 he became
a member of the Council of King’s College, London and in October 2014 he was appointed Chair of
the Clore Social Leadership Programme. John is a critically acclaimed author, broadcaster and
commentator, specialising in UK politics, international affairs, media and human rights issues.
Ian Roberts is Principal Lecturer at Manchester School of Art / Manchester Metropolitan
University where he has a faculty wide role concerned with employability and enterprise. His work
with postgraduate students is concerned with objects, context and collaborative practice. He studied
Industrial Design at the Royal College of Art and has worked as an educator and design consultant
for over 30 years. Current work includes design consultancy for industry, knowledge exchange and
healthcare research.
Jane McFadyen is Principal Lecturer at Manchester School of Art, where she is the Unit
Leader of Unit X, the Faculty wide module focussing on collaboration, external engagement and
employability. She is also responsible for the School of Art Outreach programmes. Her research
focuses on the management of academic change, pedagogic innovation and the imperatives of
curriculum development through engagement with external partners to embed employability into
the student experience. She is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Jeff Baggott is Dean of Media and Performance at Arts University Bournemouth. He is an
academic with a successful media career on stage and in production. With a BA in Fine Art and an
MA in Film and Television Studies, he has a range of experience both as a practising
cinematographer and producer and as an advocate for the place of independent filmmaking both
in industry and the academy. Since its inception in 2011, he has been at the heart of the acclaimed
partnership between AUB and Framestore.
Verity McIntosh is Pervasive Media Studio Producer at Watershed’s research and
development studios in Bristol. She works with a community of over 100 artists, designers,
technologists and researchers exploring experience design and creative technologies. She leads
on the Studio’s talent development work, including a new residency and mentoring programme
designed to help young people and newcomers to gain traction and support for their big ideas. With
a background encompassing theatre, visual arts, robotics and games, she is an enthusiastic advocate
of all things brave, experimental and interdisciplinary by design.
Nick Coveney is currently Head of Digital at Blink Publishing Group, the non-fiction
imprint of Bonnier Publishing, one of the UK’s fastest growing publishing companies. In 2014 he
was on the Bookseller’s Rising Stars list and also in 2014 he was selected as Proxime Accessit for the
Young Stationers’ Prize. The judges described him as “forward-thinking and a real innovator”. After
reading English at the University of Nottingham, Nick was awarded a Distinction on the MA
Publishing Course at University College London in 2010. With more than five years experience across
a range of bestselling projects, Nick is regarded as an industry expert in the field of digital publishing.
Don Boogert is an Oxford Physics Graduate with over 15 years experience working in
computer graphics technology in the UK and US, working on movies such as Skyfall, World
War Z and Harry Potter to Video games for Nintendo and Activision. He currently works at Cinesite
in London specializing in computer graphics and physics simulations. After working in dedicated
software companies, he definitely prefers the exciting borders between technology and art.

Cassie Davies Strodder is Curator of the Fashion and Textiles Department at the
Victoria and Albert Museum. She graduated from Sussex University with a BA in Art History
in 2006. Whilst working at the V&A she studied for her Masters Degree in History of Design and
Material Culture under the tuition of renowned dress historian Lou Taylor. Cassie’s research into the
Heather Firbank dress collection at the V&A is published in a book entitled ‘Shopping for Fashion in
Edwardian London: The Heather Fairbank Collection’.
Jim Heverin has been a Director at Zaha Hadid Architects since 2013. He joined the
company in 1997, having graduated from Scott Sutherland School of Architecture in 1995. He has
a Diploma in Architecture from North London University and has been ARB registered since 1999.
Jim is responsible for the overall management and delivery of key projects for Zaha Hadid. His
iconic London Aquatics Centre for the 2012 Olympics was shortlisted for the Stirling Prize. Among
his current projects is the New National Stadium, Tokyo, Japan.
