June 2013 June 5 — Kristi Gabrielse Our June speaker is Kristi Gabrielse, owner of Ana-Cross Stitch in Anacortes WA. Kristi graduated from The University of Wisconsin with a BS in restaurant management and worked for The Hyatt Hotel chain as well as Club Corporation in the Columbia Tower before going into HR related positions and ending here in Anacortes about ten years ago for the Tesoro Refinery. About three years later she had the opportunity to buy AnaCross Stitch. That same year Kristi had a booth at the Anacortes Arts Festival featuring felted purses, which were a big success. Kristi was taught to cross stitch and needlepoint very young, but did not start knitting until she was an adult, actually about ten years ago. But now she loves to knit, and tries to knit several hours a day, as well as work on her own designs, (be sure and ask about that!). She has owned Ana-Cross Stitch for about six years, lives in Anacortes, and served as the President of the Anacortes Chamber of Commerce in 2012. Her shop is open seven days a week and employs the talents of six employees who are teachers and designers in their own right. — Paulette Hauck, Program Co-Chair Membership Notes 2 Charity Knit 2 Stitch’N’Pitch 3 My LYS Weaving Works 4 Show and Tell 5 LYS Tour 6 Knitter’s Calendar 6 Looking Ahead: July 10 Shibaguyz Shannon and Jason Mullett-Bowlsby SEATTLE KNITTERS GUILD PO BOX 15341 SEATTLE WA 98115 A Knitting Acrostic Keeping me entertained, Needles softly clicking. We met the ShibaGuyz at Seattle Yarn and got a sneak peek of the trunk show they will be bringing to the Guild in July. We loved the free pattern at Bad Woman Yarn which is an interesting two-color chevron cowl. I also bought some cool Habu cotton slub yarn and stiff root sizing silk to make a cowl I saw on display at the Fiber Gallery. Overall we just enjoyed the day with each other, laughing, telling stories, navigating around Seattle (we are all Eastsiders!), laughing, eating cupcakes, laughing – it was just a great excuse to get together and visit both old and new stores. Finally, when we figured out we would not actually hit 8 stores (to enter the raffle drawing), we slowed down and even had a burger at Red Mill!
