Hirangatanga / Excellence in effort - Kapa Haka
Over the holidays our kapa haka roopu (group) have been practicing to compete in Regional Kapa Haka
competition on Friday. The group have been training hard from 9:00 – 3:00 every day during the last week of the
holidays. This is the level of commitment needed to perform at such a high level, and we wish them all the best for
the competition at the end of the week.
Hirangatanga / Excellence in effort - Punctuality & Attendance
Well done to all students who have attended 90% or better throughout Term One. You are certainly placing yourself
in the best position to achieve your academic goals. At the end of each term the Middle School and Senior School
form classes with the highest percentage attendance receive a $50 voucher for their class.
The winners for Term One were:
Middle School – 8BH
Senior School – MSB
The overall house points for attendance in Term One were:
Maropea 615
Waikamaka 575
Tupari 535
Remutupo 505
Hirangatanga / Excellence in effort – Mathematics
Throughout Term One our Year 7 & 8 classes were in the online Sumdog Hawkes Bay Maths Contest. The overall
winners were the classes and individuals which had the highest scores throughout the contest. Congratulations to
Piki Ratapu for placing first individual in the contest, and 7/8CB for placing third overall class in the competition.
Winter Sports
A large number of students and staff will be gearing up for the beginning of our winter sports programme. It is
important to remind ourselves what makes a successful and enjoyable sports experience.


Learning and practising the skills required to perform under pressure.
Turning up and tuning-in to practice.
A team with unselfish players who support each other will generally perform better than a group of
individuals that do not play as a team.
Focusing on enjoying your game.
Respecting your opponents.
Having support that is encouraging and positive.

SCHOOL UNIFORM PROPOSED CHANGES
We are looking into options of a new school uniform and at this stage would like to have
feedback from parents/caregivers on the possible changes. Please email: [email protected] or phone: 831 0180 Ext 822 to provide your feedback by
Friday 1st May.
The Purpose of the Proposed Changes Include:



Improved quality of material
A new and refreshed style (middle and senior school)
An option for students (senior school) to wear a more formal uniform.
This also addresses the growing opportunities our students are experiencing where
they require formal uniform.
Consultation Process:
Uniform changes have a major impact on families, students, suppliers and the wider school
community. We value all feedback which will be used in our decision making process. The
following is an outline of the process (both what has happened and next steps).
Term One 2015:
Board uniform committee investigated new ideas and change processes.
Term Two 2015:
April/May: Parent and student feedback on the 1st draft proposal.
End of May: Board of Trustees consider all feedback on new uniform and decide on
changes.
June: Timeline for changes communicated and feedback sought from families.
