2013 was probably one of the most controversial years for music, with artists such as: Pharrell
Williams, Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry and One Direction making huge comebacks. Whilst others were
making their way back into the industry, it seems artists like Chris Brown and Justin Bieber had
announced their retirements (very funny kid, that joke probably started ‘cut4bieber’ all over
again). In a year packed with shocking performances, outrageous videos and unexpected Career
revivals, it’s fair to say it’s been nothing short of entertaining.
Male Artist of The Year: Eminem
Eminem decided to take a well-deserved break a few
years ago but clearly, he wasn’t messing about
during this time. Following his break he revealed an
amazing new album called ‘The Marshall Mathers
LP2’, which features collaborations from Sia to Nate
Ruess from the band, ‘Fun’.
Female Artist Of The Year: Beyoncé
Beyoncé also took some time off from
the spotlight, in order to spend time
with her baby - the adorable and
beautiful Blue Ivy. At least that’s what
we thought she was doing, until she
only went and surprised us by releasing
a ‘visual album’ containing of over 32
records! Go queen B!
Favourite Male R&B/Soul Artist: Justin Timberlake
In the early weeks of last year, JT brought us the
highly anticipated ‘Suit and Tie’ - which had a few
contributions from the likes of Jay-Z and Timbaland.
His album, ‘The 20/20 Experience’, was released a
few months later and went on to dominate the charts
worldwide. Other records from the album include
‘Mirrors’, ‘Take Back The Night’, ‘Tunnel Vision’ and
‘TKO’.
Favourite Female R&B/Soul: Rihanna
There’s so much to say about Rihanna. At 25, she’s
had huge success – selling over 25 million copies of
albums, designing clothes for River Island and winning
several Grammy’s. The craziest part is, “She’s just
getting started”, so we can be sure to expect big
things from her in the future.
Favourite Rap/Hip-Hop Album: The
Heist
The Heist is the debut album from
Seattle-based rapper Macklemore, along
with accompanying producer, Ryan
Lewis. It’s a “started from the bottom”
type of story about a guy with a dream,
who does what he loves for a living.
Favourite Pop Album: Midnight Memories
Did you really expect the world's biggest boy band to
drop the ball on 2013? "Midnight Memories," the
third full-length album from One Direction, follows up
on the highlights of last year's "Take Me Home“. With
the addition of some new ideas, the boys will keep
their listeners eager for the band's continued
evolution.
Single Of The Year: Wake Me Up
The acoustic strums at the beginning of this tune
are extremely deceptive. EDM Maestro Avicii soon
kicks in to an unforgettable club hit, with
accompanying vocals from Aloe Blacc, who seems
to have taken a back seat with his music at the
moment.
Article by Lewis Warford
Those keeping their eye on the ball will have
seen the victory of the top 3 teams, all
maintaining their push to win the premiership.
We saw great wins from Arsenal, Manchester
City and Chelsea but yet Manchester United
seemed to struggle once again with the absence
of Rooney and Van Persie. They went down to a
3-1 defeat to Chelsea and to add salt to the
wound, United lost to Sunderland, which
means they failed to secure a place against
Manchester City at Wembly. Oh how the mighty
have fallen!

win against Cardiff

his goals in his first half hatrick
In the championship, our
local team, Bolton
Wanderers have suffered
their biggest defeat in nearly
50 years when they lost 7-1
to Reading, mounting more
pressure on manager Dougie
Freedman.
