Double-Knit Fibonacci Bookmark
Materials:
- 2 colors of sport-weight yarn, color A and color B (I used Brown Sheep’s Nature Spun, in Blue
Knight and Sunburst Gold). You only need a very small amount of each color for this project.
- Three double-pointed #4 needles
Techniques Needed:
- long-tail cast on
- grafting or weaving
Notes:
- Twist the two threads together at the beginning of each row, to keep the sides of your work
closed.
- When switching between knit and purl stitches, be sure to carry both colors to the front or the
back of the work. You may need to stick your finger or thumb in-between the two threads to
make working your stitches easier.
Using a long-tail cast on, with color A on the needle and color B underneath, cast on 7
stitches. Turn the work, and, *purl 1 stitch with A, pick up a stitch from the cast-on wraps with
color B* 7 times. You now have 14 stitches, alternating between color A and color B. Turn.
Change colors on the next row, by starting with a purl stitch in A, then a knit stitch in B, and
continuing across. You will then work, keeping the colors as they are on the needle, for 2 more
rows.
Switch colors, and work that stripe for 5 rows total.
Switch colors, and work that stripe for 8 rows total.
Switch colors, and work that stripe for 13 rows total.
Switch colors, and work that stripe for 8 rows total.
Switch colors, and work that stripe for 5 rows total.
Switch colors, and work that stripe for 3 rows total.
Switch colors, working for just 1 row.
For the next (last) row, slip the purl stitches onto one needle and the knit stitches onto another.
Knit 1 row with color A, break yarn. Cut a length about 24” long of color B. Use B to graft one
row of color B across both needles. Darn in ends.
