So come and learn how to sew in your ends neatly, block and press pieces correctly, sew up garments invisibly, shape pieces to make sewing up easier, pick up stitches for neck bands and button bands, and more. Suitable for all knitters – even lifelong ones! Friday 3rd October, 10am-4pm, £45 Knit a sweater top-down in one piece A great class for anyone who is nervous about attempting a top-down sweater knitted in the round. We’ll go through the construction of the garment and then cast on for our own projects and begin the neck shaping. Free follow-up sessions offered to help you when you reach the armholes! We'll help you choose a project for the class - a child’s sweater is advisable as it will be quicker to knit and see how the shaping works. Friday 17th October, 10am-1pm, £20 Knit and natter/Stitch & Sew - FREE Knit and Natter is a regular free drop-in session, held every Friday afternoon and every third Wednesday morning. Sewing… Get to know your sewing machine This class is aimed at anyone who has just bought their first sewing machine, or those who have recently brought an older one down from the loft! Learn about tension, how to thread your machine correctly, how to use the feet that came with your machine – and more! Friday 26th Sept, 24th October, 10am-1pm, £25 – or FREE if you purchase a machine from us! Sew an A Line Skirt with Saj This class is a lovely introduction to dressmaking. Come and make a lovely skirt in a day...suitable for beginners. Make a summer skirt in August and a winter one in October! The winter skirt will be made with a lining – we’ll supply the pattern and ask you to cut it out before the class to save time. More details on booking. Friday 22nd August, 10am-4pm, £30. Also Thurs 16th Oct, 10am-4pm, £30 Sew a clasp purse with Emily Levey Learn how to make a cute fabric purse with a metal clasp. Emily will teach you how to make a pattern and give your purse a professional finish. Perfect for making gifts. Bring two fat quarters of fabric – we have a range on sale in our shop. Clasp and wadding included. Wednesday 27th August 10am-1pm & Saturday 27th September 2-5pm £25 Sew - beautiful knickers! Spend the morning sewing a pretty pair of pants! Learn to attach elasticated lace and as this class uses a paper pattern this is an ideal introduction to dressmaking. Suitable for beginners. Thursday 7th August 10am-1pm £25 inc materials Make a beach bag Stitch and Sew is our new evening group that will meet on the first and third Tuesday of every month from September 2nd. Bring your knitting, sewing or crochet along and have a chat while you work. Browse our patterns and yarns and get some help with a project. The shop will also be open on these evenings for anyone who can’t make it during the day. Tuesdays, 7-9.30pm, £1.50 per person or £5 if using a sewing machine. Refreshments provided. Friday October 10th 10am-2pm, £20 including materials Patchwork and Quilting… Patchwork Quilt Course with Emily Levey Pattern Cutting & Dressmaking This popular two week course is a great introduction to making a patchwork quilt. Contemporary quilter Emily will teach nine different patchwork blocks to enable you to make a quilt top. Attendees will have the option to add a third session to this course later in the summer to look at quilting and binding. Pattern Cutting Course with Claire Macauley Saturdays 16th & 23rd August 10am-2pm £50 for the course. Also Thursdays 2nd & 9th October. We are running an 8 week course in September to design and make a princess seamed dress. To attend this class you will need to have drafted a panelled bodice block and a panelled skirt block. On this course you will draft a sleeve block and see the project through to a finished garment . Thursday 23rd October, 10am-2pm, £30 Crochet… Learn to Crochet Course If you’ve struggled to get the hang of crochet or have never picked up a hook before this is the class for you. Learn how to make a foundation chain and do double and treble crochet stitches, then in week 2 move on to granny squares. Hook and yarn included. We’ll start you off and help you choose colours and by the time you leave you’ll be well on your way to finishing this lovely piece. Dressmaking – Thursdays 7-9.30pm Pattern Cutting – Wednesdays 7-9pm Stitch and Sew – 1st & 3rd Tuesdays 7-9.30pm (Shop open) Friday 19th September, 10am-1pm, £25 incl yarn Tunisian Crochet with Di Stewart Tunisian crochet is often described as a cross between knitting and crochet – it produces a dense fabric more like woven fabric than crochet. This class is for people who have done some crochet before. Saturday 18th October, 2-5pm, £25 You are very welcome to bring crochet along to any of our ‘knit and natter’ sessions or Stitch and Sew on a Tuesday evening (see above). However if you are in need of some advice, please call to check Caroline will be at the session. Lampshade Making… Make a lampshade One of our most popular classes, this is fantastic for that ‘Wow, I made this myself!’ feeling. This is a satisfying half-day workshop where no sewing skills are required. Take home a bespoke drum lampshade to fit a table lamp or pendant light fitting. Various sizes available, bring your own fabric, we supply everything else. Why not get 4 or 5 friends together and book a bespoke class…evening or weekends not a problem! Ideal for hen party or birthday party fun! Children’s Classes… Teen Sewing This popular class is weekly over the summer holiday but on varying days. It runs on Saturdays only in termtime. Not strictly for teenagers, as we accept them from 10 years old as long as they can already sew. The class is pattern based – boys and girls work on their own project and get help and guidance to progress their dressmaking skills. August 1st, 9th, 13th, 19th, 30th. Sept 6th, 13th, 27th. No class on 20th. 10.30am-12.30pm, £10. Make a zip bag Learn how to make a gorgeous lined zip bag for make-up or pens or other bits and pieces. Thursday October 30th, 10am-1pm, £15 Home Ed Sewing Group This class is an introduction to machine sewing through dressmaking for girls and boys aged 10 upwards. Using our speed limited machines we use simple clothing projects to foster interest and learn skills involving commercial patterns. Every Monday in term time 11am-12.30pm £13 per session including materials Youngsters Sewing! Fun introduction to machine sewing for ages 7 upwards.
