Smith is the undisputed “father” of Bronco Football, who from 1946 through 1967 built one of the top junior college programs in the country. When he retired from his head coaching position to become the athletic director, Smith had a record of 156-6-6. Prior to the 2008 season, the stadium was expanded to its current configuration of 32,000 seats with the completion of Stueckle Sky Club. The four-level, $35.9 million facility includes loge, club and luxury suite seating, along with a state of the art press-box. This is the second expansion of the stadium in the past 11 years. In 1997 the capacity was increased to 30,000 when additional seating in the southwest and the southeast corners were added, also in 1997 construction of the Allen Noble Hall of Fame Gallery and the completion of the Larry and Marianne Williams Plaza was completed at a cost of $10 million. Originally constructed with 14,500 seats at a cost of $2.2 million in 1970, Bronco Stadium was first expanded to 20,000 in 1974 when the east side upper deck was added. Portable end zone seating brought the capacity of Bronco Stadium to 22,600 through the 1996 season. Bronco Stadium is also home to the only blue field in the United States. Blue “Field Turf” was installed during the summer of 2008, making it the fourth blue field at the stadium. Boise State established a first in 1986 by installing the first blue AstroTurf field. The second blue AstroTurf field was installed in 1995, with the third prior to the 2002 season. Other schools have special color projects for the end zone area, but Boise State’s was the first, and is the only, collegiate stadium to have the entire field produced in a special color. There were two previous green AstroTurf fields installed prior to 1986. The first was during the original construction of the current stadium in 1970, with the second installed prior to the 1978 season. Built in the spring of 1982 at a cost of $17.5 million, Taco Bell Arena (formerly known as The Pavilion) seats 12,380 people. In the last 20 years, Taco Bell Arena crowds have witnessed exciting college basketball from Boise State, as well as some of the top ranked teams in the country. Taco Bell Arena hosted first and second round games for the NCAA Men’s Division I National Tournament on seven different occasions (1983, 1989, 1992, 1995, 1998, 2001, and 2005). From victories by top-ranked Virginia and Ralph Sampson, to UCLA and Tyus Edney’s improbable 4.8 second coast-to-coast lay-up to beat Missouri in 1995, to Hampton’s shocking upset of second-seeded Iowa State in 2001, Boise has become one of the most popular and respected NCAA regional sites. In March of 2002, Taco Bell Arena hosted the NCAA Women’s West Regional Finals. Taco Bell Arena also hosted another major women’s collegiate championship in April of 2000 with the NCAA Women’s National Gymnastics Championships. Taco Bell Arena also hosted three conference championship tournaments while Boise State was a member of the Big Sky Conference. 10 FAN GUIDE BOISE STATE BRONCOS VOLLEYBALL & WRESTLING CONTACTS VOLLEYBALL WRESTLING OTHER CONTACTS Game-Day Parking, Films, Practices Shawn Garus Head Coach (208) 426-4490 [email protected] Game-Day Parking, Films, Practices Greg Randall Head Coach (208) 426-2879 [email protected] Game Management Lori Hays Assistant AD, Operations (208) 426-1550 (208) 859-6963 (Cell) [email protected] Equipment & LOCKER ROOM Raul Ibarra Equipment Manager (208) 426-1446 [email protected] Equipment & LOCKER ROOM Dale Holste Equipment Manager (208) 426-3955 [email protected] Tickets Anita Guerricabeitia Assistant AD/Ticket Manager (208) 426-1385 [email protected] credentials Michelle Railsback Smith Assistant SID (208) 426-3438 michellerailsback@boisestate. edu credentials Max Corbet Assistant AD, Media Relations (208) 426-1515 [email protected] Sports Medicine Chelsea Burns Assistant Trainer (208) 426-2430 [email protected] FAN GUIDE Sports Medicine Andy Chorn Assistant Trainer (208) 426-2430 [email protected] 11 BOISEBRONCO STATE BRONCOS GYM Bronco Gym is the primary home for Boise State’s volleyball and wrestling teams.
