Membership & Marketing Coordinator
DESCRIPTION
The Membership & Marketing Coordinator will be responsible for recruiting new members; advertising
State and Chapter CoNPS events and activities to CoNPS member, the public, and other organizations,
through traditional and social media; improving communication within CoNPS; and encouraging
members to volunteer for the various CoNPS events and activities and CoNPS committees.
The Membership & Marketing Coordinator is a new, one year, 15 to 20/hour a week contract position
without benefits. The coordinator will work from home. The person hired may extend the position
beyond a year through fund-raising and grant-writing. Salary will be commensurate with experience,
within a range of $15-$18 per hour.
DUTIES
1. Recruit new members:
a. Run a membership drive and marketing campaign to increase CoNPS memberships,
specifically targeting people 18 to 40 years old. The desired goal is to add at least 150
new paid members within 12 months of hire date.
b. Increase CoNPS visibility to the public through attractive and effective marketing
campaigns.
c. Compile a database of contacts including people affiliated with colleges and universities
that offer courses in Biology, Horticulture, and Ecology, environmental organizations,
garden clubs, Extension programs such as the Colorado Master Gardener Program and
the Colorado Native Plant Master Program, outdoors organizations, K-12 schools,
relevant government departments and agencies, environmental consulting companies,
non-profits, and other groups that would be good sources of future CoNPS members
and also possible collaborators. CoNPS is especially interested in increasing the
membership of 18 to 40 year olds.
d. Attend public events in an outreach and membership recruitment function; this may
include presentations about CoNPS
e. Develop marketing materials for print and electronic distribution.
f. Arrange for CoNPS brochures to be handed out to recruit new members when and
where appropriate
2. Setup and Monitor Social Media
a. Set up and monitor a blog, Instagram account, and Meetup accounts for CoNPS; add
other social media as needed
b. Monitor CoNPS Listserv, blog, Twitter, Instagram, Meetup, and Facebook accounts.

3. Advertise CoNPS events
a. Coordinate with chapter presidents, Workshop Coordinator, committee chairs, and
officers to advertise CoNPS events through traditional (newspapers, radio, tv) and social
media including Meetup, Listserv, blog, Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.
b. Compile a database of media contacts for each chapter, and provide training to chapter
leaders on advertising their events.
4. Improve communications within CoNPS
a. Work in collaboration with the CoNPS Administrative Assistant to disseminate
information to the appropriate parties within CoNPS. This could include sending timesensitive information (such as event reminders, job announcements, etc.) to members
using the Membership database for group emails or through a listserv.
b. Set up a Google calendar and allow committee chairs, Board members, chapter
presidents, and officers to add and alter information as necessary.
5. Recruit and organize volunteers
a. Recruit volunteers to work on the CoNPS committees with emphasis on the
Conservation Committee.
b. Connect volunteers with appropriate opportunities when available. Be in regular contact
with committee chairs and chapter presidents regarding their volunteer needs.
c. Keep current list/database of volunteers for committees and chapters. Monitor
committees and chapters to make sure they have the volunteer support that they need.
6. Attend Board Meetings & Annual Meeting
a. Board meetings will be held from 9:30 a.m. – noon at Regis University Library (Tracy
Room) in Denver on May 30, August 8, October 24, and December 5, 2015. Dates may
change.
b. The Annual Meeting will be held in Golden on Sept. 12, 2015.
7. Provide future funding for Membership & Marketing Coordinator position
a. Pursue grant funding
b. Fundraising
c. Pursue corporate sponsors
8. Other Duties that Relate to the Job
a. There may be other duties that relate to the needs of CoNPS
b. This is a new position so it may be modified over time
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Excellent communication skills
2. Excellent people skills (outgoing, collaborative, positive and upbeat, good at networking)
3. Knowledge of and fluency with social media
4. Experience organizing volunteers
5. Experience with marketing and fund-raising; grant-writing experience preferred
6. Must be a self-starter, organized, efficient, and enthusiastic
7. Proficient in MS Word, MS Excel, email, Internet
8. Must have own computer with MS Word & MS Excel software and internet connection

Live in Colorado
Member (or become member) of Colorado Native Plant Society
Strong writing skills
High School diploma
PREFERRED:
1. Bachelor’s degree in relevant field (Communications, Marketing, Biology, etc.)
2. Experience building and maintaining a website
ADDITIONAL JOB REQUIREMENTS
Working with volunteers may require occasional travel throughout Colorado. Work travel must be
approved by the President and is reimbursed.
Some evening and weekend work is required to meet deadlines or to participate in meetings.
A valid Colorado driver’s license and proof of car insurance are required, provided annually.

This job requires prolonged sitting and use of computer and mouse.
SUPERVISION
The Membership and Marketing Coordinator will be supervised by the President of the Board of CoNPS.
PROBATIONARY PERIOD
There will be a three month probationary period.
